Hello all,

I heading to Pacifica in about an hour. I know there are crowds but
I'm just careful. I'm spending most of the day at the beach. Anyone
want to join? Cell is 415-505-4089.

Sunday it looks like some of use are going to Santa Cruz. I have some
space in my car for a few more. Low tide is at 8:00 AM so the earlier
the better to get to SC.

Hey Ladies.

We had a nice little group of NCWSC girls at our meeting in Santa
Cruz on Sunday eve.  We chilled out and traded stories about the warm
weather and fun waves that had come through.  And...by the way...the
waves were HUGE for the contest on Sunday at Steamer Lane.  Seriously
impressive to watch those girls drop in and ride those babies.  Big,
big, big.

Anyway, enough talk about it.  LET'S GO SURF and get to know
eachother!   There are now 57 OF US AND COUNTING!!!   So come on out
on Saturday the 3rd of November to Linda Mar beach in Pacifica.
We'll pick a place to meet on the beach....and bring blankets,
beverages, umbrellas....and BOARDS.  Hopefully the surf will be
good.  Even if it isn't great...we'll still be stoked 'cause we can
build a bonfire and hang.

Watch the NCWSC site for future detail on exactly when and where on
the beach we'll meet.  But, it's safe to assume we'll probably try to
meet in the morning around 8:30am or so to beat the crowds and then
hang for the better part of the morning and afternoon.  (High tide in
SCruz that day's a really high 5.7' at 10:45am....so surfing either
side of high at Linda Mar'll be pretty good if there's swell....)

I am probably going to Hawaii for a long extended weekend next week. Does anyone
have recommendations on cheap accomidations (or
camping) in Maui -- preferably close to some good surf spots.

I am still deciding between maui and the big island. Which one is better for
surfing?

Sounds like we'll have a small & stoked turn out for this week's
Sunday meeting.  One of our members - Monica Lee - has generously
permitted us to have the meeting at her surf pad in Santa Cruz.

The meeting will start at 4pm at her place.  We'll do a mellow BBQ or
pizza and talk surf, stoke and plans for more of the same.  (We might
even pop in the latest girls' surf vid:  "Tropical Madness" for some
inspiration...)

Most of us will probably be coming from the contest at Steamer Lane

Take 280 South (or 101 South)
Take 85 South (twds Gilroy) to Hwy 17 South
Continue on Hwy 17 South.
After the Pasatiempo exit, the next exit is the "FishHook" on-ramp to
HWY 1 SOUTH where it gets clogged at rush hour
Take the Hwy 1 SOUTH/Watsonville-Monterey exit (if not, you'll be in
Santa Cruz downtown)
From Hwy 1 South, take the 41st Ave Exit.
Turn right at the light and head down towards the ocean about 1.5
miles.
After the Portola Street 4-way intersection, proceed to the next stop
sign (opal cliff drive is on your left; Otter's Lair condos on your
right).
Go past the stop sign, and turn right into the first driveway, 541
41st Ave.
It's a blue house w/white trim, partially hidden behind a wall of
vines.
It's tucked between the brown shingled Otter's Lair condos and peach
townhomes .
If you go past the house, 41st ave dead ends in a parking lot.
Turn around and find parking on streets nearby on 41st or Opal Cliffs.

NO-I won't be able to make it.
Is anyone going or would like to go to Baja at the end of the month?
I have a spot in Imperial Beach called Coyote Cals. They say there's like 7
perfect surf spots with in walking distance. There is also lot's of camping.
What ya say tita's?

hey all:

For those of you interested in catching the best of the best when it
comes to women's longboarding...come on down to Santa Cruz and watch
them rip Oct 13-14.   Below are links for more info.

Also - we will be holding our next group meeting on Sunday the 14th,
after the contest, in Santa Cruz.  Exact location to be announced.  I
will follow up w/a request for RSVP's on the meeting so that I can
guage attendance counts.  (Counts will influence exactly where we
hold the meeting in SC.)

And....for anybody planning on being down there sat/sun to watch the
event, we'll pick a place to centralize so we can meet in person
while checking it all out.

Oh: and one more thing: massage therapist and general surf goddess
Elizabeth Davis has kindly (and cleverly) volunteered to bring her
massage table to the event.  She'll be doing massages on
Saturday...w/proceeds going to benefit NorCal Women's Surf Club!!!

We decided to take our show on the road next time so we can surf and
check out the final day of the Margaritaville Pro Women's Longboard
contest which runs Oct 13-14 at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz.   Come on
down for the day or just for the meeting.  A bunch of us will
definitely be at the contest and probably looking to surf together
that day as well.  The meeting will go from 4-6pm or so.  Location
will be announced shortly.  It will either be at the beach, a BBQ
site or at Paradise Surf Shop.   I'll post the info on our site when

Notes from 9/14 Meeting @ Capri Pizza

Hey all –

Just wanted to fill you in on what was discussed at last Sunday's
meeting in SF.

Logo Design:
Elizabeth has a designer that can do the work.  We're talking about
what format he works in…digital or old school.  Will keep you all
posted – hope to have something by our next meeting Oct 14 (details
below) to share w/the group for feedback.

Flyer Production:
Mary Anne's on it.  She's got somebody that can do the printing for
us.  Now we just need logo and layout.  More on that later.

Phone # / Voicemail Box:
Mary Anne's got that one too.  Seems we can get a voicemail box set
up for very few $.  Will be a good thing to have for all the surf
sisters that don't get on email every day.

NCWSC on TV ?!
Elizabeth reports that Sparky from Pacifica (who does a local tv surf
show)…wants to do a segment on us.  So sweet.  We'll wait a little
bit `til we get our basic act together (gotta have a logo hoodie to
be on TV, c'mon!)….and then we'll hit prime time.

Member list w/phone #'s:
I'll set this up on our site.  It'll just be an excel s.sheet that
I'll update w/people's phone #'s (if they care to share – totally
optional).   That way we can easily find eachother for rides to
breaks when the surf works.

Budget & Dues:
We've decided not to charge dues for membership in the interest of
growing the group as big as we can for now.  The more surfers, the
more stoke.  And all that.  BUT:  we did think it was a good idea to
establish a "founder's fund".  The way that'd work would be that
anybody who wanted to donate to the founding budget would become a
Founder.  The amount could be anything that works for you from $20 to
$200 or whatever.  We'll need some pool of $ to get off the ground
and fund things like logo design, t-shirt, rash guard and sweatshirt
production.  Once we start to sell those items, we'll build the
budget from there.

Non-profit status:
I'm looking into getting us non-profit status

Fund-raisers:
We've had a number of people offer to set up some fund-raisers in the
future – which is something we'll discuss at our Oct 14th meeting.

Paradise Surf Shop:
Kristina from Paradise Surf Shop in Santa Cruz is very excited about
our group and has generously offered us the use of her shop space for
future Santa Cruz-area meetings.  Be sure to check her out on your
next cruise to Santa Cruz:  3961 Portola Drive (@ 41st).

Road Trips:
Elizabeth Davis just road-tripped to Morro Bay and Pismo to surf.
She also keeps talking about Baja and is planning to go to Costa Rica
w/me at the end of October.  With all the trippin', I've dubbed
her "goddess of the road trip".   We're thinking we should all do
a "practice" road trip to Man Resa state beach sometime in early
November.  It's beautiful and not far from here (just S. of Santa
Cruz.)   More from her on that at the next meeting.    J

Technique Improvement:
Since Judith didn't make the last meeting (and therefore can't argue
w/me), I've dubbed her "goddess of skill".  Since she's been surfing
so long and had such good ideas on how to use a video camera to help
us all w/technique….that's her department.  We'll put her on the spot
at our Oct 14th meeting.   I'm also going to touch base with Izzy
Tihanyi at Surf Diva to see if she might want to swing by our October
gathering (she's supposed to be in the contest at Steamer's.)
