Join the NorCal Women for another summer BBQ and Surf Social! It's a rare chance to visit a wonderful Marin farm, WindRush Farm in Chileno Valley, near Petaluma. We'll learn about the woolmaking process (think Ugg boots!) and tour the
farm...Then'll we'll enjoy a BBQ featuring local farmers' grass-fed beef, sausages, wines and artisan cheeses -- perfect for casual "gourmet" types.
Afterwards, we'll head out to surf Dillon Beach and run an informal videotaping session and a skills clinic if there's interest.
Read on for event details! This will be a joint event with the Coldwater Surf Club and another Bay Area group.
Cheers,
Monica Lee |

June 21 Schedule:
* 10:30am: Farm Welcome Lambswool Workshop

Windrush Farm owner Mimi Luebermann breeds and raises historic Lincoln sheep, prized for their long-haired, lustrous fleeces. (she did try raising "cashmere" goats). Mimi will show us various fleeces and wool products and demonstrate
how wool is processed to create products like sweaters, scarves, shawls,
Ugg Boots, fleece outerwear, carpets, etc. You'll witness the
carding(straightening),
spinning (into yarn),
dyeing, and
felting of wool. You'll also get to create your own felt wool squares to take home.
11:30am: Farm Tours Pollywogs

On a stroll through the farm, wečll meet the Lincoln sheep, rabbits, chickens, Jersey cows, llamas, and guide dogs and visit Mimi's gardens. If you wish to feed the animals, please bring stale bread. Kids are especially welcome to play in
Mimi's pond and hunt for pollywogs.
12:30pm: BBQ Picnic featuring Local Farm Products

Bring your appetites! We'll have an incredible picnic on Windrush Farm's outdoor patio area, complete with tables, chairs umbrellas. Mimi will talk briefly about the local farming trends -- the marketing of sustainable agriculture
practices, the branding techniques of small farm producers whose products we'll be enjoying. You'll get to sample fantastic artisan cheeses like
Humboldt Fog from local producers like
Cypress Grove,
Cowgirl Creamery, and
Bellwether Farms. We'll also sample some fine wine from local vineyards like Chileno Valley's
Corda Winery, known for its red Meritage Reserve and Chardonnays. We'll also feast on salad, natural grass-fed burgers and sausages from Point Reyes'
Marin Sun Farms. Feel free to bring other picnic food beverages.
2:30pm til Dusk - Dillon Beach Surf Session
After the barbecue, we'll spend our afternoon at Dillon Beach (20+ min. drive from Windrush) for some beach fun, surfing, and some informal videotaping. We'll also run an informal skills clinic for those who want to work on their surf
technique. Sign up below! Don't forget to bring your beach gear toys!
