I have been spending alot of time in the last few days at various beaches in SF and San Mateo Counties.  There seems to be an unusual amount of dead seals, especially Calif sea lions and babies. Dead gulls and other water birds too.

Does anyone know what is going on? I've heard that the Marine Mammal Center was aware in the rise of beached mammals,  but have not heard what the cause is thought to be.

Any insights?
