Surf films on the BIG SCREEN: Thurs April 17th @ the Balboa Theater   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #167 of 1966 |

hey chicas:

there's a mini surf film fest in SF next Thurs.  it's called "ATTACK OF THE AUSSIES"....and it should be good viewing.  Details are below...

April 17th, 2003
7:15, 9:15
Balboa Theatre
3630 Balboa Avenue
--corner of Balboa and 38th Ave., San Francisco
(415)221-8184
$7.50

Aqua Surf Shop and Wavefest present "ATTACK OF THE AUSSIES," Thursday,
April 17th at the Balboa Theatre.  The double feature consists of surf film
premieres, Poor Specimenıs "3 DEGREES" and Billabongıs "FRAME LINES."

"3 DEGREES" is the latest surf flick to come from the folks at Poor
Specimen
(distributors of "September Sessions" and "Shelter").  This is the
follow-up
surfing production from Australian producer Matt Gye, who also produced
acclaimed video "Montaj".

"3 DEGREES tracks the first ASP year of rising super stars Joel
Parkinson,
Mick Fanning, and Dean Morrison as they compete around the globe
through
five continents.  The program starts with the young menıs personal
development from childhood to the present.  Insightful voice-overs
provide a
candid look into a mixed year of highıs and lowıs of competition for
the
trio on the WCT.  Expect to see some incredibly high-caliber surfing at
some
of the worldıs best breaks.

"FRAME LINES" is the latest video release from the fine folks at
Billabong.
Filmmaker Bali Strickland (Evolv) presents 45 minutes of Billabongıs
best
team riders just killing international surf.  Strickland reinvents the
"team" style video using unique techniques, including pole-cam behind
the
jet skis, inventive uses of light, and film work that's both sharp and
smooth.  But with surfers Joel Parkinson, Taj Burrows, and Andy Irons
at his
disposal, it would be hard to botch the flick.

Many other top surfers join the fun, including Rasta, Occy, Egan,
Dorian,
Dylan Longbottom, Donavon Frankenreiter and some special guests.
Strickland
busts a tight editing style, and includes some great tunes to come from
folks like Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and Grinspoon.

"If it doesn't make you want to surf, chances are you're dead."
