Surfrider's Sneak Preview of Wavefest 2003

Pedro Point Firehouse in Pacifica
Surfrider San Mateo County is hosting an evening of surf film clips
from films that will premier at Wavefest 2003, a surf film festival
coming to San Francisco this summer. Brian Musial, founder and
director of Wavefest Surf Film Festival, will appear to speak about
his experience with presenting surf films. Joining him will be Sally
Lundburg and Steve Wasylko, two NorCal filmmakers that are in the
midst of making a couple of jaw-dropping films.
Surfrider's sneak preview of Wavefest 2003 at the Pedro Pt. Firehouse
on Monday, March 24, will feature "SFOB" a documentary on surfers at
San Francisco's Ocean Beach, and "Surf Riders" an old "information"
film from 1960. More information on the films to be shown is provided

Sally Lundburg , along with producer Elizabeth Pepin, will show their
first film, "On Any Given Day," spotlighting Pepin's relationship to
the ocean, and the impact that it has on her life. These women
founded Frank Films with the intention to, "Bridge experimental film
techniques with documentary sensiblities." Frank Films' current
project is a half-hour documentary on Santa Cruz surfer, scientist,
and women's big-wave surf pioneer Sarah Gerhardt. "One Winter Story"
will document Gerhardt through two seasons as she surfs Mavericks and
Hawaii, ultimately capturing her journey to find her place both in
the line-up and in the world. More information about Frank Films can

Steve Wasylko, a Santa Cruz based surf filmmaker, will show clips
from his upcoming movie set for a Summer '03 release. The movie
covers surf spots up and down the coast of California, Maui, the
North Shore and other locations undisclosed at this time. Surfers
featured in the movie are Joel Fitzgerald, Shawn "Barney" Barron,
Josh Loya, Garrett McNamara and Chris Ward to name a few. More
