Re: [NorCalWomensSurfClub] ashley-mexico drive trip

i had the opposite experience when i drove most of the baja pennisula, just me and my girlfriend. we stopped at numerous remote surf spots, albeit all on the pennisula, not mainland mex. we camped the whole way, 3 weeks, and encountered a lot of american guys who kept telling us how brave we were and advising us against going to the locations we were headed to. but we had nothing but totally pleasant encounters with local people, most of the whom seemed to take extra care to look out for us, because we were two women. we made plans at the time to do the trip you are planning but haven't yet executed as our son is just 10 months. (the trip described above was before his birth.) one day though, for sure.

life is full of random dangers and i really try not to let them interfere excessively in my life. i wonder what any guy friend of mine would really be able to do if someone intended serious harm to us. not a whole lot, i think, as is evidenced by the woman's story below. sometimes i think guys get f-ed with more than women when they travel.

my two cents - i say go for it and hopefully one day i get to hear your stories

- susan

Subject: [NorCalWomensSurfClub] ashley-mexico drive trip

hi ashley,
i wouldn't advise driving alone with 2 girls. i went down with 4 guys
once and we got harrassed to no end and the policia were flirting with
me and being assholes right in front of my boyfriend and 3 other dudes.
our friend got thrown in jail for literally no reason, i just dont
think they liked the looks of him. i really cant imagine going down
with 2 girls, its just not that safe. driving during the day is better
if you have to. im sure other people have had better experiences
driving down. mexico is a great place, dont get me wrong, i just
would find a driving partner.
its such a fun place to surf though...

Ditto on what Susan says. Having lived in San Diego for a number of years, I spent a great deal of time driving in Mexico both alone and with friends. Random...
