You also might want to check out the home run log on the SABR website.

A friend has asked me where he can find statistics on how many multiple-
home run games a player has had in a season. I suspect some of you
will know the answer to that question.

I've completed a draft of a paper on the "Little Corporation," the
two-year period from 1953 to 1955 that the PCL's San Francisco Seals
were run by Damon Miller and others as a public corporation, stock in
which was sold to fans. I ask two things of my colleagues in the
Lefty O'Doul chapter and/or NorCalSABR group:

1) Assuming many in the group have far more knowledge of the PCL and
its history than do I, I a would appreciate it if one or two of you
could read the paper critically, spotting misinformation, suggesting
avenues of further inquiry, etc. If this gets published in "The
National Pastime," "Outside the Lines," or anyplace else, I will of
course be generous with credit and SABR salutes.

2) I would love to interview any fans who remember that period in
the Seals history, or better still, any fans who themselves or whose
family owned stock in the club.

Thanks a lot for allowing me to post this!

Several have you have told me you are having difficulty seeing the photos or at least seeing the enlarged versions from the thumbnails.  I agree the instructions on Shutterfly aren't as clear as they could be.

From the initial page you see on the email, click "view album", when it goes to the next page, click "view photos".  This will get you to the thumbnails.  Then, to the right of the top row of thumbnails, click "view as slideshow".  You will see enlarged versions.  You can adjust the speed of the slideshow or just advance them one by one at yur own speed.

Sorry for the confusion.  Shutterfly is one of the best album sites for sorting and adding captions, but it could be easier for viewing.  Let me know if you still have any problems.  Enjoy!

Hi all,

Rich Macaluso and I were lucky enough to get tickets to the All-Star Game, but we can't go to the Sunday events, and would like to sell the tickets for cost.

There are 2 events:

  • The Futures Game, made up, I believe, of players recently drafted and in the low minors.  If you are interested in prospects, this would be fun.
  • The Celebrity Softball Game, with stars such as Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc.  JUST KIDDING!  I have no idea who's in it.

We are selling the tickets at cost ($75) or best offer.  Our seats are great--

Sec. 106, row 12, near the visiting dugout.

Let me know......

John

Marlene – I turned on the calendar function for the Yahoogroup.  Moderators (you, me, Gene and John in Sacramento) have input capability. You’ll want to make the info basic, ie who, what, when, where mainly without a bunch of narrative..  Same goes for the SABR Calendar that you can input to via ADMIN.sabr.org

Hi, Denny
Great - thanks for writing and I look forward to meeting you.
I am attaching the announcement with details to get tickets for the A's/Angels game
on Saturday, August 4.  We're partnering with Athleticsnation.com this year - should be lots of fun and could be some very special guest speakers!
I am cc'ing Christy Hofmann, who is coordinating tickets, so she will know that either your check or a paypal rsvp is coming.
I enjoyed visiting Petco when the A's played there last year.

Dear Friends and Fans:
At the Oakland Coliseum, May 28- June 4 the Negro League Baseball
Museum traveling exhibit will be on display behind section 219 and
220. Various Negro League merchandise will be available for purchase
with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Black Aces Foundation,
which promotes baseball in inner cities.

Before the game on Wednesday, May 29, the A's will honor 20 game
winners Mudcat Grant, Mike Norris, Vida Blue, and Dave Stewart.

Grant, who played for the A's for parts of the 1970 and '71 seasons,
was the first African American 20-game winner in the American League,
as he posted a 21-7 record for the Minnesota Twins in 1965. Blue,
Norris and Stewart posted their 20-win seasons while pitching for the
A's. Blue enjoyed three 20-win seasons during his tenure with the
A's, the first coming in 1971, when he earned AL Most Valuable Player
honors and the Cy Young Award after posting a 24-8 record to go along
with a 1.82 ERA. Two more 20-win seasons followed in 1973 (20-9) and
1975 (22-11). Norris, who spent his entire 10-year major league
career with the A's, posted a 22-9 mark in 1980. Stewart strung
together four straight 20-win seasons from 1987-90, helping the A's
to three AL pennants and one World Series title during that time
frame.

In 2006, Grant authored "Black Aces: Baseball's Only African-American
20-Game Winners." The book not only details the 20-win seasons of the
13 African American pitchers, but it also examines the lives of 10
Negro League pitchers who might have won 20 games in the Majors if
not for baseball's color barrier. In addition, it details several
topics, including the integration of African Americans into baseball
in America, the prejudice and hardships faced by the pitchers and
their road to success. More information on the book is available
online at theblackaces.com.

Come on out to the ballpark,
Marlene

Here's a close play at the plate.  He was out, but the Mets lost 10-1 anyway.
The last one is the strangest, and probably the dumbest military recruiting poster ever.  Go to Iraq to fight for your right to party.  Wasn't that a Beastie Boys song?
