TERRITORIES SERVED NOTICE BY THE AWA
After an initial review of AWA Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.'s (the
management company of the AWA brand) licensing and brand agreements,
official notices of revocation have been issued to the following
promotions:
Hawaii Championship Wrestling (HCW)
Supreme Championship Wrestling
Pinnacle Professional Wrestling
Great American Wrestling Federation
TWF - The Wrestling Federation
The revocation of sanctioning and the AWA brand name was made based
on a number of factors. According to the AWA, in most cases, the
territories revoked explicitly violated the terms of their written
agreement. The AWA also evaluated each territories performance,
interviewed wrestlers associated with the promotion and talked with
hosting venues. In the case of each revocation, results ranged from
the territory drawing an average of less than 100 paid admissions,
inadequately paying (or not paying) their wrestling talent, no proof
of liability insurance, misrepresenting themselves to the AWA or not
paying annual sanctioning fees. "First and foremost, this is a
business", stated AWA Vice-President Jon Stewart, "our first
responsibility is to entertain wrestling fans worldwide and to be
fiscally responsible. We're neglegent in doing this by allowing
territories to use our name and not properly represent our
principles."
Reportedly, the AWA will role out a new set of standards for it's
remaining promoters who will continue to promote their own
territorial shows however they will only use the AWA name and brand
in cooperation with the AWA's corporate management team when
promoting major events.
