I just looked at my guide again. Still says 3:30. What does your guide say?

They seem to be more right than wrong but obviously not this time. I haven't checked to see if the guide on DTV changed yet.

My TV says it is 3:30pm but I am seeing 6pm now. NASCAR.com says 3:30pm. Not sure what to go by here. Anyone care to chime in? I have a friend coming over so I tell him to be here by 3:30-4:00. That limits my time to get some stuff done but if it is at 6pm, that changes a lot of things today. Does anyone know when this damn thing starts??

Pop star Rihanna and her singer boyfriend Chris Brown are back together, People magazine reported Friday on its Web site.

The couple reportedly had been involved in a domestic abuse incident that led to charges against Brown, and a photo surfaced afterward that was said to be that of Rihanna's bruised face..

"They're together again," People magazine quoted its source as saying. "They care for each other."

Rihanna had canceled a planned birthday bash in New York and postponed concerts overseas in the days following the incident.

The pair now is at one of Sean "Diddy" Combs' homes, People reported. The magazine said Brown was "reflective and saddened about what happened."

The image reportedly of a bruised Rihanna had sparked a discussion of the impact it could have on the issue of domestic violence.

The celebrity Web site TMZ, which originally posted the photo, did not explain its origin. The site wrote only that it was taken after an altercation between Rihanna and her boyfriend, fellow pop singer Brown.

Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton later acknowledged that the photo could prove embarrassing to the woman pictured, a view shared by some advocates for abused women. But in the welts and marks on the face of the woman in the photo, some also saw a teaching moment.

Brown, 19, was arrested Feb. 8 on suspicion of making felony criminal threats, but police have not publicly identified his alleged victim. The woman was Rihanna, according to a person familiar with the situation, who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and requested anonymity.

  • There have been 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
  • Five drivers have participated in all 11 races: Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte and Mark Martin.
  • Dale Jarrett won the inaugural pole at Las Vegas (Feb. 27, 1998).
  • Eight drivers have poles, led by Dale Jarrett, Kasey Kahne and Bobby Labonte (two each).
  • Seven different drivers have won, led by Jimmie Johnson (three).
  • Only four of the 11 races have been won from a top-10 starting position and none have been won from the pole.
  • Four of the 11 races have been won from a starting position outside the top 20.
  • The deepest in the field that a race winner has started was 25th, by Matt Kenseth in 2004.
  • There has been one green-white-checkered finish at Las Vegas: 2006 (270/267).
  • Qualifying has never been canceled at Las Vegas.
  • Matt Kenseth has a 9.0 average finish in nine Las Vegas races, the best of any driver with more than three starts. He has been running at the finish in all nine of those races and has finished on the lead lap in eight. Kenseth has also led 438 laps at Las Vegas – 179 more than any other driver.
  • Roush Fenway Racing had five drivers finish in the top 10 in the inaugural Las Vegas 400 in 1998. In five of the 11 races, the winner at Las Vegas was driving for Roush at the time: Mark Martin (1998), Jeff Burton (1999 and 2000) and Matt Kenseth (2003 and 2004).

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Toyota doesn't want to see its competitors going to the rear because of post-qualifying engine changes -- and neither does NASCAR.

Wear problems between the camshaft and lifters in engines supplied by Toyota Racing Development precipitated post-qualifying engine changes in the Camrys of David Reutimann, Marcos Ambrose, Brian Vickers and Scott Speed.

This marks the second straight week TRD teams have been victimized by similar issues. Last week at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., Vickers, the pole winner, and Michael Waltrip changed engines. NASCAR's one-engine rule stipulates that the penalty for changing power plants is dropping to the rear of the field for the start of a race.

The engine change that will send pole winner Kyle Busch to the rear for the start of Sunday's Shelby 427 Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was for an unrelated issue. Joe Gibbs Racing builds the engines for the No. 18 Toyota Busch drives; Busch blew an engine during Friday's Cup pre-qualifying practice session to necessitate the engine change.

TRD president Lee White said Saturday that Toyota hasn't identified the specific problem but has changed some of its lubricants in an attempt to correct the issue.
"It's a wear issue between the camshafts and the lifters, so it's either a coating, lubrication, lack of lubrication, too much lubrication, not enough coating, material situation, or just a simple fact that we haven't been testing," White said.

"No one has been at the racetrack running anything -- we haven't been to our proving grounds in over a month. When NASCAR said there isn't any testing, we didn't test. So Fontana is the first time -- aside from two tire tests -- that we have been on the racetrack in cars. We did a mountain of testing in dynos (dynamometers), but we don't race dynos."

White added that talks with NASCAR have been constructive.

"They were supportive, understood that we had issues and then obviously concerned about teams and sponsors and the image of the series -- just like we are -- but supportive," White said. "We explained to them what we are trying to do, in the near term and long term, and they said 'Fine, sounds like a good direction, and make it work.'"

Roush could tie record: Even if #17-Matt Kenseth fails to win Sunday, his four Roush Fenway Racing teammates could help match another Cup Series record. Only two owners / teams have won the first three races of a season. Owner Peter DePaolo's team won the first three races of 1957 (two wins by Marvin Panch, one by Fireball Roberts) and Petty Enterprises won the first three races in 1963 (two wins by Jim Paschal, one by Richard Petty).

LVMS anticipating sellout for Sunday's Shelby 427; offering $50 general-admission seats: Las Vegas Motor Speedway officials expect most every seat to be filled for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Shelby 427. "The recent surge in interest for Sunday's race is a testament to the strength of NASCAR and the true passion in NASCAR fans," said Chris Powell, LVMS president. "In anticipation of a sellout, we are creating a $50 general-admission credential. These admissions will go on sale Saturday at 9 a.m. and will remain on sale until Sunday's green flag at 1:30 p.m." The general-admission credential will allow race fans to sit at the lower level of the speedway's Section 4, just outside Turns 3 and 4. Seating in these rows has not been available for purchase since the speedway was reconfigured prior to the 2007 event. Powell added that today's announcement is great news locally. "Despite a challenging economy, this event continues to deliver great benefits for Las Vegas," Powell said. "I had my doubts a couple of months ago that we'd get so close to a full house, but now it looks realistic." Powell said that ticket renewals for Sunday's race, which were conducted in the late spring of 2008, were strong, but that the public sale of tickets had weakened when the economy turned sour later in the year. Recently, however, the speedway has observed a heightened interest in the event. "We're aware of some fans who, probably because of the downturn in the economy, have purchased tickets and will not be able to travel to Las Vegas for this weekend's racing activities," Powell said. "So that should explain any empty seats that are visible. Except for a couple of hundred singles that we have available, all of our tickets have been distributed." To obtain the $50 tickets, race fans should call the LVMS ticket services office at 1-800-644-4444.

He did WHAT with a Vise-Grip? Irwin Industrial Tools, a Newell Rubbermaid company and maker of the most reliable and versatile locking tools, the Irwin Vise-Grip, announced today that Dr. Bryan Fox of Chesapeake, Va., was selected as the winner of the "Tell Us Your Irwin Vise-Grip Story" promotion. Dr. Fox, an orthaepedic surgeon for the United States Navy, was honored for using an Irwin Vise-Grip to perform spinal surgery during Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a result, Dr. Fox will be awarded a VIP Experience this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where he will meet Sprint Cup Series driver Jamie McMurray and the #26 Irwin Industrial Tools Vise-Grip Ford team. In Sunday's third event of the 2009 Sprint Cup Series season, McMurray will be sporting the Irwin Industrial Tools paint scheme, the first of eleven this season Fox also is receiving an Irwin Vise-Grip custom-branded chopper valued at $25,000 built by East Coast Custom Cycles. A member of the U.S. Navy for more than 25 years, Dr. Fox found a unique use for his Vise-Grip as a spine surgeon on the battlefield in the Middle East. In the heat of battle, Dr. Fox needed to perform emergency spinal surgery on a soldier who had a combination of screws and rods that had been implanted into his infected spine. Complicating the medical challenges at hand, Dr. Fox did not have access to the specialized tools necessary to deal with the soldier's different spine implants. Dr. Fox did, however, have access to a pair of Vise-Grips. He sterilized his Vise-Grip tools and used them to remove the rods and screws from the soldier's infected spine, effectively saving his life.

McMurray under the weather: #26-Jamie McMurray had the fastest Ford in Saturday's final practice session, but a bout with the flu prevented him from feeling good about his chances at a win. McMurray, seventh fastest overall, headed to the infield care center after practice to ask for new medication. "The medicine that I've got right now is not really working," said McMurray, who fell ill Tuesday night. "You think you'd be better by now and I'm not, so I'm going to see if they'll give me something else to help with my chest. My eyeballs are the biggest issue right now. There's a lot of pressure on them and when the car loads up in the corner it really hurts my eyes." McMurray was also ill the week of the season-opening Daytona 500, as were several other drivers.

#24-Jeff Gordon feels secure on the track at Las Vegas a year after one of the worst wrecks of his career. Gordon spun coming out of Turn 2 in last year's race and slammed into the inside retaining wall. The hit, at a portion of the track where energy-absorbing barriers had not been installed, was so hard it knocked the radiator out of his car. Gordon was extremely critical of the track after the accident, and speedway officials responded by installing SAFER barriers around the 1.5-mile facility. "I'm confident in Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and in the comments that were made last year and the conversations I had with them last year and this year of what their plans were," he said. "I feel good about what they've done and seeing it at a slower pace without hitting it." Gordon said he's never seen footage of the accident.

Watched that Nationwide race when I got home from my lovely 13 hour day and all I can say is that I am very glad I set the DVR for an hour of extra time. It took one hour for these guys to get in 33 laps!! Looked pretty slippery in a few turns and surprisingly it was all the cuppers that were having the issues. All in all it looked like a pretty good race. I think the track reconfiguration was a huge help even though Mark Martin doesn't like it.

Wasn't this the track that Junior was so bad at that he stopped racing and parked his car concerned that he was going to hurt someone? He seems to do okay there now. Still, this is Roush's house. Good luck with fantasy today!!

May wanna ditch a few Toyotas.
