Everyone:
So what do you all think about Anna DeForge being traded to the Indiana
Fever? The Phoenix Mercury traded her last week in exchange for Kelly
Miller.
Just thought I should pass on my knowledge to all you guys (and gals) on here. I
know just like heaps of other men I am pretty shy when it comes to going up to
someone. I've tried a few different places (clubs, bars, etc) but never seem to
have too much luck. Anyway, a few weeks ago I joined up to
http://www.meetthemonthenet.info/desx and I have to say I am already getting
excited. I was beginning to think I'd end up being alone for ever, but already
been talking to a few interested ladies on there. Anyway, if you're like me it
comes highly recommended!
Thought Id share something with ya'll. Great fun and it actually works. Met my
girl on here, http://www.someone4you.info/hhhvy and so far it's been the best
year of my life! Wish you all the same happiness.
Well, another ex-NBAer just got the Phoenix Mercury head coaching
job. They chose Paul Westhead. :-(
Well, maybe Nancy has a chance with the L.A. Sparks. She could
probably 'spark' up that team!
What's it gonna take for the WNBA to start hiring more women coaches?

this article and give a response to what I feel is a complete stab in
the back towards the WNBA. We need strong persons like yourself

high praise not jerks like him bad mouthing the WNBA. Thanks.
This is from the 'East Valley Tribune', an news publication from

MERCURY DON'T RENEW GRAF'S CONTRACT
By Matt Paulson, Tribune
September 3, 2005
After missing the playoffs by one game each of the past two years,
the Phoenix Mercury on Friday concluded it will take another coach to
lead them to the postseason.
In a decision that general manager Seth Sulka said was mutual, the
Mercury did not renew Carrie Graf's contract, which expired at the
end of the season.
"We were not looking to do this the day after the season ended,"
Sulka said. "We took some time to digest what happened and together
made this decision."
Graf inherited a team coming off an 8-26 in campaign when she was
hired in April 2004. With an overhauled roster, Graf led Phoenix to a
17-17 finish in her first season. This year the Mercury started 3-11
then rebounded with a 13-4 stretch before finishing 16-18.
"We made a good decision when we hired Carrie," Sulka said. "She was
a top-line assistant for two teams (Phoenix and Seattle) and she
deserved a chance to be a head coach. (Under her) we made a lot of
strides, we improved by nine games the first year and competed for
playoff spots until the last day each year. . .
"But that being said, it was a major disappointment we didn't make
the playoffs. With the team we had and the addition of Kamila
Vodichkova, we should have taken the next step."
Graf has already returned to her native Australia, where she will
coach the Canberra Capitals of the Women's National Basketball League
during the WNBA offseason.
In a statement released by the team Graf said, "I'm proud of what I
accomplished with the Mercury the last two seasons, and I'm leaving
the team in a strong position for the future. But we didn't achieve
our goal of getting this team to the playoffs."
No decisions have been made regarding assistants Michele Timms and
Julie Brase.
Sulka said Phoenix will begin searching for a new coach immediately
and wants to have a replacement hired as soon as possible.
Timms, who was one of the Mercury's most popular players when she
suited up for them from 1997-2001, and Hall of Famer and former
Phoenix player Nancy Lieberman would seem to be likely candidates.
Sulka didn't rule either of them out but said, "I haven't officially
spoken with anyone yet."
Timms couldn't be reached for comment.
Lieberman coached the Detroit Shock from 1998-2000 and compiled a 46-
48 record, leading them to the playoffs in 1999. Each of the past two
years, she has coached the Dallas Fury of the National Women's
Basketball League, a semipro league which runs from January-April and
features several WNBA players. Lieberman said she has "tremendous
desire" to coach again in the WNBA.
"Of any opportunity, my heart would be in Phoenix," said Lieberman,
who played for the Mercury in 1997 and currently works as a studio
analyst for ESPN.

Hey, Nancy fans! The following news story just came out today (Sept.
2, 2005) in Nancy Lieberman's column as a "breaking news" story on
ESPN's website.
(click below):
http://sports.espn.go.com/wnba/columns/story?
columnist=lieberman_nancy&id=2149825
And from the Phoenix Mercury's website:
http://www.wnba.com/mercury/news/graf_050902.html
With Anna DeForge with the Mercury, there's a pretty good chance
Nancy's going to want to interview for that now-vacant Head Coach
position! (Well, maybe after the WNBA Finals end!)
Everyone needs to send messages urging the Phoenix Mercury to hire
Nancy. Go the following link to leave a message with them:

Agreed, but I do NOT think the L.A. Sparks have any "smarts", which
is why they went ahead with hiring Joe Bryant, even though he (and
Henry Bibby) never coached a women's basketball team before.
The fact that their previous assistant coach, Karleen Thompson, had
been hired as an assistant with the Houston Rockets --- when they
should have at least asked her about the head coaching vacancy ---
indicates the Sparks front office is being mismanaged.
Right now, most of the WNBA coaches are men, nine of them. Only four
WNBA teams have women coaches. This is a HUGE contrast with the time
when the WNBA first started in 1997, the only male coach was Van
Chancellor of the Houston Comets, who is still there. All the other
coaches at the time were women.
if the L.A. Sparks had any smarts we wouldn't have to write they would already
be phoning her and asking her to come NOW!!!

I'm getting sick of seeing all these male ex-NBAers get the women's
teams jobs. I know it worked for Bill Laimbeer of the Detroit Shock,
but most of the others are just retreads, when they should've been
hiring female candidates.
What do you all think? :-)

I just read that the Charlotte Sting of the WNBA has just hired former
NBA player Muggy Bogues as Head Coach, even though he had no previous
coaching experience in college or in the pros.
The Sting's General Manager is Trudy Lacey who had also been serving as
Head Coach. But with the Sting being so bad this year, she fired
herself as Coach and kept herself on as G.M. I don't think they even
made offers to anyone else other than Bogues.
I don't understand why Nancy is not any getting any WNBA job offers.
Why is that?
Is it maybe because she is Anna DeForge's agent/partner, which might
create a conflict-of-interest situation?
Oh, well, it seems another one of the NBA good ol' boys (with no
women's b-ball experience) gets another job in the WNBA, when a well-
qualified woman was available. [sigh]
