Allow Me to Define Victory (w/ updates through the night)

Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 03:07:42 PM PST

I've been watching as much Fox News and CNN as I can stand, and I can tell you this: the expectations game is being played by every GOP analyst/pundit/gasbag.

These people are trying to force Democrats to say that only gaining at least 25-30 seats in the House would be good--that anything less than 25 House seats is a "victory" for Republicans.

Similarly, they're also saying that anything short of taking the Senate outright constitutes victory--that Republicans can declare victory if they only lose 5 seats.  Even some Kossacks have fallen into the trap.

Well, almost every tip jar I display says "tips for victory." So, for the intelligence-challenged in the Republican punditry, allow me to define victory for you:

THIS IS VICTORY:

Your new Speaker of the House:

If she's Speaker by 1 seat, 5 or 10, she's still Speaker.  That's victory. [Update: she's speaker. VICTORY!!!!]

Your new Chair of the Government Reform Committee:

If he's Chair by 1 seat, 5 or 10, he's still Chair.  That's victory.

Your new House Judiciary Committee Chair:

If he's Chair by 1 seat, 5 or 10, he's still Chair.  That's victory.

You know how you can tell it's victory?  I'll tell you: by the shaking legs and urine dripping down the pants of GOP operatives who see those pictures with those titles.

And as for the Senate?  EACH AND ANY of the following constitutes victory:

Your new Senators:

Your new possible Senators:

Let me repeat that: EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE NEW SENATORS IS A VICTORY.

Because Burns (if he loses) won't be able to insult firefighters anymore; because Santorum (who has lost) won't be able to have man-on-dog sex anymore; because Chafee (who has lost) won't be able to keep enabling policies he supposedly doesn't like; because Corker ([Update: he won. Too bad for Ford, who ran a great campaign]) won't be able to screw up as a senator as badly as he did as mayor; because Talent (who has lost) won't be able to rubberstamp Bush's policies anymore; because DeWine (who has lost) won't be able to abet the most corrupt administration and state party in history; because Allen (if he loses) won't be able to be, well, George (insert expletive here) Allen.

All of these are victory.

You want to know what a decisive landslide looks like?  THAT would be this:

Senate Majority Leader

---------------------------------------------------

So don't let them play the expectations game on you.  Understand what victory looks like.  Remember what it looks like.

Because the GOP is going to declare victory no matter what happens--even as they pull as many of their sorry carcasses off the battlefield as they can manage.

Don't let them.  If these shadowy images of glory that you see here tranform into brilliant reality, do the only appropriate thing: Gloat.  Gloat big time.

Because the GOP will be running scared--big time.

[Update: I understand that true victory lies far, far ahead of us. A battle for the presidency looms, the struggle for the heart of the Democratic Party will be ongoing, and we won't go far without taking K-Street money out of elections. But here, I'm talking about Victory in THIS battle fought today. And that's all that matters TODAY.]

One last dispatch from Christine Jennings HQ in Sarasota.

I'll make this brief: this is the most expensive race in the country and we need money for GOTV.  A lot of it, considering the late date.  We have to gas up a dozen campaign vans, print about 50,000 pages of materials, feed and house volunteers, buy water for our canvassers, pay for phones, etc.  Long story short, we need money.

I'm personally a huge Howard Dean fan, but we don't have a bat.  We don't have the time for a bat.  I barely have time to type up this plea--I have to drive seven of our collegiate canvassers back to campus and finishing tabulating our canvass and phone bank reports for the night.  We're at the last possible moments for raising the funds for Tuesday's GOTV.  This race has tightened and we have to beat the Republican ground game to secure a margin of victory.

This is Katherine Harris's seat.  This is the most expensive race in America.  The Republican nominee, Vern Buchanan, is a far-right ideologue who has spent more than $5.5 million of his own money to try and buy this seat.  His partisans are running harassing automated phone calls designed to give the impression that they're from Christine at all hours of the day and night to voters throughout the district--Kos diaried about this tactic again today.

President Clinton has headlined an event for Christine (so have Wes Clark, Barbara Boxer,  Hillary Clinton, Tim Roemer, Bob Graham, Bill Nelson, Kendrick Meek, and Stephanie Herseth, among others), President Bush has headlined one for Buchanan (so have Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney and Tom Reynolds, Jeb Bush, Mel Martinez, among others).  This is one party versus the other in a direct confrontation.

We have to win this seat.  We have to get out the vote.

If we get your contributions in by noon tomorrow, we can have ActBlue cut us a check that will arrive by Tuesday at noon.  That will ensure we can push voters to the polls until the last possible moment.  If we can't raise enough money, we won't be able to fund a full day of GOTV, and the Republicans can snatch this seat at the eleventh hour.

Please, give one last time and help us make it over the top.

Support Christine Jennings.  Please.

(And please recommend--we need as many people to see this as possible)

Might want to insert (FL-13) at the beginning of your title so it can be "rescued" in the Election Diary Roundups and have a 2nd chance to be seen by Kossacks interested specifically in the elections.

Good luck in the race BTW--we in Tampa are all pulling for our neighbor to the south. :)

It would be great to beat Harris and take her congressional seat too.

I have a question.  Why do democrats never call a press conference and accuse republicans  when they do these robo calls?

    How to Counter the Illuminati
by Wes Penre, Apr 10, 2006

Wes PenreMany people have asked me how we can fight the New World Order on a daily basis. I have previously given my view on a spiritual solution in my article, How to Fight the New World Order, and this article is in addition to that, perhaps something we can use on a daily basis.

However we look at it, the solution has to be spiritual. The New World Order already got us in its grip, and we need to move fast. Some people write to me and say that fighting the Illuminati spiritually is fine, but we need to use force, too, and we need to do it now. The sequence is:

My response to that is this: We would be in deep trouble if we, the people, started a giant militia and just overthrew the Shadow Government, without having any spiritual backup. Why? Well, this is most likely what would happen:

    1. Let's say we manage to expose the Elite and have them removed.

    2. When this is done, we need to establish a new government and/or a new political system/order that we believe would work. This, of course, will be a great challenge, because we would have an overwhelming amount of opinions how this new system would look like. However, let's say we agree on a solution.

    3. We know from experience that power corrupts, and not having any spiritual solution we are bound to fall back into the old system of secrecy and corruption again, and the circle is closed.

This may sound very discouraging, but as I see it, this is what is going to happen. So, what can we do?

Let us think about this for a while. The Illuminati have succeeded because they have worked behind the scenes, in secrecy, and controlled us with money to a great extent, but always with FEAR. Fear and terror are their main weapons. Another way is to "divide and conquer"; to turn friend against friend and create imaginary enemies. They know how to HATE and they have no conscience. They are driven by power, control and wealth.

This is the Illuminati in a nutshell, and when we look at it that way, it seems like we are facing an enemy we can't defeat. I believe that is not true! However, we still come back to the fact that we need to fight them on a spiritual level. We have to look at their WEAKNESS, not their STRENGTH, to be able to counter them.

Their weakness is that they can't feel real love. They are terrified that we are going to break the programming by stop being afraid, angry, disillusioned, feeling discouraged and apathetic. Therefore, what we need to do is to start to love again and throw out the fear and terror we may feel, which are just illusions anyway. The more we feed into those negative emotions, the more we are in the grip of the Illuminati. They can ONLY succeed if they can keep us in fear! So what we can do, BOTH on an individual basis and in groups, is to stop being afraid and start loving ourselves, each other, the environment and everything there is. I know it is hard to do immediately, but we need to work on this. The Illuminati don't know how to love, and that is the weak spot in their armor. The more we are able to tune into the very high vibration of LOVE, the less power the Elite will have. It is impossible for them to create an effect on us if they can't feed on our fear.

So, the sequence to start fighting the Illuminati and their New World Order is:

    1. Learn about the New World Order. Research it and understand how the Agenda is setup, so they can't fool you anymore. Anyone, who is NOT aware of the Illuminati Plan to take over the World, ignores it, or refuses to accept it, is hopelessly lost and can't develop spiritually. The door is closed. These people are facing a future in total slavery.

    2. Fight them on a spiritual level. This IS foremost a SPIRITUAL war, not a war of FORCE, I can't stress this enough.

By starting to love again, unconditionally, and letting our egos go, we are well on our way to win this battle. In addition, please also read my article, How to Fight the New World Order, and see for yourself if this makes sense to you.

    Unconditional Love

What you can do to help stop the Massacre

    1) Email the American Embassy in Mexico City.

    embeuamx@...

Our so called Ambassador is Antonio Garza. He is a Bush TX crony. Please let him know the world is watching Oaxaca and on his watch.

    2) Email the Red Cross.

    martinc@...

This is the email address for MEDIA with questions for the CEO. If they get enough mail, they will have to respond.Ask the RC if it is true that they are under orders not to help wounded strikers. Or, whatever better question you come up with. ASK THEM A QUESTION -- don't just go off on them, please.

    3) Email or call the news desk at the biggest paper in your area. Ask them WHO is covering this. WHO not IF.

EDIT: PLEASE USE 'MASSACRE IN OAXACA' in your Subj line.
= I am calling Seattle news stations...

we have lots of people from Oaxaca who live & work in my county, so this news blackout is particularly painful for many. If this were happening in Ottawa or Timbuktu, we'd be hearing all about it...the Mexican government doesn't fly troops around for nothing, & cops don't murder press unless something even worse is coming that musn't be seen. I think I'll write to CNN & ask them where the hell Anderson Cooper is...let's see him take a bullet in the ass for 360! If MSM were down there covering this, maybe the outcome would be different.==

wounded in the shooting. Among the dead are Brad Will, a video journalist
for Indymedia, and the teacher Emilio Alonso in San Bartolo Coyotepec, near
Oaxaca city, where 23 others were shot.

The Internationalist Group is issuing this bulletin to alert unionists and
others in the U.S. of the need for urgent action. A protest has been called
for tomorrow, Saturday, October 28, at 3 p.m. outside the Mexican consulate
at 27 East 39th Street in Manhattan. We urge people elsewhere in the country
to likewise protest outside Mexican government installations denouncing the
    massacre.

According to Radio APPO, the radio station of the Popular Assembly of the
Peoples of Oaxaca, truckloads of armed paramilitaries are entering the state
capital. During the afternoon motorcycles and pick-up trucks with
plainclothes ministerial police roamed through the city. As part of the
ongoing strike by the state teachers union, now in its sixth month, there
are hundreds of barricades in Oaxaca city and strikers are calling to
reinforce the barricades and resist the "caravans of death."

Seventy thousand teachers have been on strike in the state since May 22.
They have been joined by the APPO, including representatives of the 16
indigenous peoples in the state. The struggle has convulsed Mexico, as
several thousand teachers and APPO strikers marched on Mexico City, where
they have been camped out in front of the Senate.

Yesterday, under heavy pressure from the right-wing federal government of
Vicente Fox, the teachers union, Section 22, SNTE-CNTE, voted by 30,000 to
20,000 to go back to work. However, they made this conditional on receiving
guarantees of safety for the strikers against threats by the murderous state
governor Ruiz and his PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) which has
ruled the state for the last 75 years. This massacre is the government's
    answer.

There have been repeated solidarity demonstrations with the Oaxaca strikers
in New York, Los Angeles and elsewhere in the U.S., as well as
internationally, from Barcelona, Spain to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where
teachers called for workers' strikes against the repression in Mexico. Now
is the time for international working-class action.

News stories on the killings are available on the web sites of Indymedia
    (http://www.indymedia.org/en/index.shtml ), NarcoNews
(http://www.narconews.com /), the Mexico City daily La Jornada

Bush buys land in Paraguay.... Why? Any thoughts?

Bush Buys Land in Northern Paraguay

Buenos Aires, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) An Argentine official regarded the intention of the George W. Bush family to settle on the Acuifero Guarani (Paraguay) as surprising, besides being a bad signal for the governments of the region.

Luis D Elia, undersecretary for the Social Habitat in the Argentine Federal Planning Ministry, issued a memo partially reproduced by digital INFOBAE.com, in which he spoke of the purchase by Bush of a 98,842-acre farm in northern Paraguay, between Brazil and Bolivia.

The news circulated Thursday in non-official sources in Asuncion, Paraguay.

D Elia considered this Bush step counterproductive for the regional power expressed by Presidents Nestor Kirchner, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro.

He said that "it is a bad signal that the Bush family is doing business with natural resources linked to the future of MERCOSUR."

The official pointed out that this situation could cause a hypothetical conflict of all the armies in the region, and called attention to the Bush family habit of associating business and politics.

    18. Here's a few thoughts in an interesting article.
Found this January 2006 article interesting at the time and even more so now:

    www.politicalaffairs.net/article/view/2479/1/140/

"The Bush administration has sent troops into Paraguay. They are
there ostensibly for humanitarian and counterterrorism purposes. The action coincides with growing left unity in South America, military buildup in the region and burgeoning independent trade
    relationships."

    snip

" In December 2004, the Bush administration canceled $330 million in economic and military aid to 10 South American countries. They were being penalized for turning down a US request for granting its
soldiers immunity from prosecution for crimes they commit within the countries' borders.

On May 5, however, the government of Paraguay took the bait. It
signed an agreement authorizing an 18-month stay, automatically
extended, for US soldiers and civilian employees. The previous limit had been set at six months. On May 26, in a secret session,
Paraguay's Congress passed legislation protecting US soldiers from
prosecution for criminal activity, both within Paraguay and by the
    International Criminal Court."

So, what do you make of this turn of events?

Dark Armies, Secret Bases, and Rummy

    by Conn Hallinan

    November 24, 2005

    <snip>

But there is nothing amusing about an enormous U.S. base less than 120 miles from the Bolivian border, or the explosive growth of U.S.-financed mercenary armies that are doing everything from training the military in Paraguay and Ecuador to calling in air attacks against guerillas in Colombia. Indeed, it is feeling a little like the run up to the `60s and `70s, when Washington-sponsored military dictatorships dominated most of the continent, and dark armies ruled the night.

U.S. Special Forces began arriving this past summer at Paraguay's Mariscal Estigarribia air base, a sprawling complex built in 1982 during the reign of dictator Alfredo Stroessner. Argentinean journalists who got a peek at the place say the airfield can handle B-52 bombers and Galaxy C-5 cargo planes. It also has a huge radar system, vast hangers, and can house up to 16,000 troops. The air base is larger than the international airport at the capital city, Asuncion .

    <snip>

"Privatizing" war is not only the logical extension of the Bush administration's mania for contracting everything out to the private sector; it also shields the White House's activities from the U.S. Congress. "My complaint about the use of private contractors," says U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsy (D-IL), "is their ability to fly under the radar to avoid accountability."

    <snip

Would the United States try to destabilize Bolivia's economy while training people how to use military force to insure Enron, Shell, British Gas, Total, Repsol, and the United States continues to get Bolivian gas for pennies on the dollar? Quite likely.

And would the White House like to use such a coup as a way to send a message to other countries? You bet. President Bush may be clueless on geography, but he is not bad at overthrowing governments and killing people.

Will it be as easy as it was in the old days when the CIA could bribe truckers to paralyze Chile and set the stage for a coup? Nothing is easy in Latin America anymore.

    32. And Bush IS military, as Commander in Chief, so he gets immunity
from prosecution for criminal activity, both within Paraguay and by the
    International Criminal Court.

Moreover, what is Jenna doing having dinner there with Paraguay's head of state? Talking about UNICEF? Doubtful.

This is absolutely astonishing. I would infer that some sort of secret deal was cut to pump US dollars into this poor country's economy, through military base construction, in exchange for legislation protecting Shrub from prosecution.

A sitting President is apparently making plans to flee the United States with his family. This is quite remarkable.

    21. Now I know -my intuition IS on target. I've been wracking my brain
wondering why Rev Moon bought millions of acres of land in Paraguay, why U.S. military bases were allowed to be built under the guise of terrorist crossing Brazilian/Argentinian borders), why Bechtel tried to own the water of Bolivia, why Paraguay has the largest or second largest fresh water aquafir on the planet, why, why, why. The only thing I could come up with when contemplating the crimes of this regime - is - they were going to have to protect themselves when they finally succeed in destoying this country, by nuclear ruination or financial ruination or by civil war ruination or religiou ruination. My guiding question through all of this was - where do people with cargo ships full of wealth go to be safe?

This news about the Bushes, if true, does not bode well for Argentina and other neighboring countries. Paraguay is landlocked. There is too much yet to be figured out.

Water, water, water - more important than oil. Especially when the salty stuff takes over.

Laura wants a nice house in Dallas so she can be near her friends and enjoy some shopping. I've read that she doesn't like the ranch.

Jenna needs a place where she can make a fool of herself and get intoxicated in public. I'm sure that Paraguay offers those amenities. And its something that she and her dad can do together!

Actually, I heard that the new ranch was going to be in Costa Rica.

I think that the BFEE has told Laura that if she tries to divorce him while he's still pResident, he will be America's first president to become a widower while in office.

But the Monday after a legitimate president is sworn in, she will be on the plane to Reno to get rid of his sorry ass. This way, she can live in Dallas near her friends and shopping, and Dubya can go into hiding.

    41. Interesting article about longtime Paraguay ruler forced into exile
Longtime Paraguay ruler forced into exile

    Chicago Sun-Times, Aug 17, 2006

Alfredo Stroessner, the canny anti-communist general who ruled Paraguay for decades with a blend of force, guile and patronage before his ouster in 1989, died in exile Wednesday. He was 93.

    (snip)

Mr. Stroessner seized power in a 1954 coup and through fraud and repression held it for 35 years to become one of Latin America's longest-ruling strongmen.

Finally ousted by his own generals, Mr. Stroessner remained hated by many in Paraguay, where he was accused of repression and human rights violations, even though some stalwarts credit him for big public works projects that modernized the country.

A staunch U.S. ally, Mr. Stroessner made Paraguay a refuge for some Nazi war criminals among 200,000 Germans he sheltered after World War II.

Mr. Stroessner also sheltered fellow right-wing dictators, including Anastasio Somoza of Nicaragua.

"Stroessner didn't have any problem giving refuge to people with blood on their hands," said Aaron Breitbart, a senior researcher at the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. "His death is no loss to democratic values in Paraguay."

Paraguayan President Nicanor Duarte said there were no plans to honor him.

He rigged his re-election every five years after his 1954 seizure of power and brought Paraguay into the modern age, transforming a stagnating, politically tumultuous country with open sewers and no running water, even in the capital, into a relatively prosperous and modern nation.

Paraguay sought for years to question Mr. Stroessner about the "disappearances" of his opponents. Human rights activists say his regime was a key part of "Operation Condor," a network of right- wing military governments, secretly supported by U.S. intelligence agencies, that repressed leftist dissidents across South America in the 1970s and early 1980s.

    Salam ,

Je vous avoue que cela me ferait  plaisir de lier plus qu'une amitié avec vous et du fond du coeur je souhaiterais sincerement vous rencontrer et vous connaitre davantage. Mais avant, je
tiens a me présenter a vous.
