It seems incredible that 27,000 people die from lack of clean water
and 204,000 children die from hunger, AIDS, and other preventable
causes every week. That's one child every three seconds.
It doesn't have to be this way.
On July 6, President Bush and world leaders will meet in Great
Britain for the G8 Summit. Please take a moment now to sign this
petition urging President Bush to lead the way at the G8 summit to
end global poverty through increased US aid, comprehensive debt
relief for poor countries, and trade reform.

Time is Running Out!
We have only days left before the G8 Summit! We need your help to
reach our goal of getting 50,000 people to add their voice to the
campaign to end global poverty! Please take a moment to forward this
petition to friends, family, and colleagues.
~~We the undersigned, endorse the following petition:
Ask President Bush to Make Poverty History – Sign the ONE Declaration
Target: President George W. Bush
Sponsor: Oxfam America
SIGNATURES: 21,097
GOAL: 50,000
DEADLINE: Ongoing ...
We face a global crisis. Every week, 27,000 people die from lack of
clean water; 60,000 people die from AIDS; and 204,000 children die
from hunger, AIDS, and other preventable causes - that's one child
every three seconds.
Americans have demonstrated that they care when they generously
supported organizations like Oxfam, which delivered emergency
assistance to victims of the tsunami earlier this year.
Today, we do not ask you for your money, we ask for your voice. Your
voice can help make poverty history and save lives. On July 6,
President Bush and world leaders will meet in Great Britain for the
G8 Summit. At this meeting, the ONE campaign will urge them to:
Increase US aid for health, education, clean water, and other basic
needs - at a cost of just ONE percent of the federal budget;
Cancel the poorest countries' debts and fight corruption;
Reform unfair trade rules to let poor people compete on fair terms
and lift themselves out of poverty.
More than 750,000 Americans have already signed the ONE Declaration
because they believe that helping poor people help themselves
reflects the deeply held American values of compassion, fair play,
and self-help. Join them today and urge President Bush to lead the
way to making poverty history!

~You may not know it yet, but your TV could soon go dark.
Congress is getting ready to take up legislation that would set a
firm date for all television signals to switch from the analog signal
you receive now to an all-digital one. Yet, nearly 85% of Americans
do not have a TV capable of receiving this new digital signal! Sign
here: http://www.care2.com/go/z/25037
This means that many consumers will have to buy a brand new TV or a
set-top converter box (estimated cost of about $50 each) to receive
the digital signal. And frankly, this is an expense that many working
families today simply cannot afford, especially when there's nothing
wrong with their current set.
The government will also auction off the channels - our public
airwaves - that are currently being used for local TV broadcasting,
potentially earning billions of dollars on the sale. These funds can
and should be used to compensate consumers who will be harmed by the
impending switch to digital TV.
Congress is now in the process of deciding who should pay for the
switch - consumers or the government. That's why it's critical to
tell your Representatives that consumers shouldn't have to bear the
financial burden for the transition to digital TV! Send a letter:
