Folks,
As you know, SUNY is now ticketing cars parked in W2, so we need to
park in W1 from now on. Unfortunately, they still ticket cars parked
before 6am. This is not normally a concern for us, but it is for the
double century. SUNY is asking for plate numbers of all those who
will be parking at SUNY.
So, if you plan on doing the double this Sunday and parking at SUNY,
please send me your plate number.
Bruce
Bruce, My ticket number is L030006035. Many thanks for
your and David’s help on this. Perry

Folks,
Just got off the phone with Donna Salter, the new director of parking
and transporation at Purchase College. It turns out that she heads up
a new department, under the auspices of the Purchase College
Association, that is running the parking operation. Under new rules,
Lot W-2 is now off-limits for visitors who lack permits on their cars.
The Purchase authorities want us now to park in W-1, the first lot you
come to as you come in. She suggested we park over by the booth as you
drive in.
There's not a problem from 6 a.m. on. If a ride like the Double
Century is to leave from 6 a.m., she needs a heads-up, at Donna.salter@... so
she can alert the ever-vigilant SUNY
cops.
As for the people who received tickets, Ms. Salter has agreed to void
the tickets. I'll need the ticket numbers and your names, so please
email that info to me by responding to his email. She has agreed to do
it without you having to go to Harrison Town Court.
Yours no longer ticketed off,

Folks,
I've heard from riders from Team in Training that they first went to old tried-and-true W2, where we have parked without incident for what seems like eons. They were told by the university constabulary to park W1 if they didn't want to get a ticket. Meanwhile, the Double Century dudes had shown up earlier on their way to that fabulously hilly 125 miler and they had parked where they had always parked, dear old W2. Those Double Century guys ended up with the 25 dollar tickets. It does n't seem fair, that without notice, the university would begin issuing tickets. I'm going to take that up with the government relations people, whom I happen to know through writing for the college's alumni magazine. I'm going to ask the authorities to void those tickets. How many were issued? I'll need the names for when I talk to them. In fact, just a year ago, I wrote the cover story for Purchase Magazine on WCC member Pearson Constantino's journey to recovery as he rode across America, and even had a sidebar about Westchester Cycle Club's longstanding collaboration with the college.
Yours still ticketed off,

I've been following this group for a little while and knew the 14th was the date
for the Double Century; I was hoping the 300K would be a different date (now I
understand this is the double century ride). Unfortunately I'm away next
weekend (long-standing commitment).
I am looking ahead to July 11 to ride the Mt Greylock Century in Western MA.
It's only 100 miles, but it is 9800' of elevation. See
http://www.bikeride.com/calendar/event.asp?id=15462 for details.
Have a great ride on the 14th; wish I was there.

Following up on yesterday's 114 miles from Pawling to Great Barrington and back,
I feel ready to try this longer challenge. Sun. June 14th, Moderate B pace
(14-15), approximate start time, 5:30am (still TBD), Pawling Train Station.
We would follow the route of the Double Century south to Croton Falls, meet the
B riders heading north who are attempting 200 miles, and share the route to
Great Barrington and back to Pawling. Distance will be approximately 147 miles.
The key to my ride will be the relaxed pace in order to save energy for the long
haul.
Please contact me at avram53@... or 914-831-5616 if you are
interested in sharing this ride.
Best, Ave
Ave,
I've been called out of town this weekend. I have to be at the PDA College

For those interested in doing the double this year, I would like to remind you I
have a 75 mile training ride tomorrow, Sat May 16th. It starts at 8am at the
Yorktown Commuter parking lot off Underhill Ave at the town hall.
The whole point of the training ride is to ride for a long time and see what you
forgot. Better to forget something on a 75 mile ride than on a 200 mile ride.
One stop, tempo pace.
Bill, Gus, Larry, Lisa, James and Don,
Thanks for your responses. I will also plan some long distance rides prior to
June 14th, again using the same roads. Might even start with the upper 100 loop
again from Wingdale. I'd like to try to target 125 to 150 miles as the final
goal.
I'll contact you directly to pick dates for these lead up rides.

I'm interested, but not sure if I can do it that day.

FYI, I am still planning for the challenge of a long ride on Sunday, June 14th. Basic details: Start and finish in Pawling. Approx. 113 miles from Pawling north to Great Barrington and back using the same route as the double century. Possible add on of additional mileage, to be determined, using much of the same route running south of Pawling and then back up Rt. 22. (There's plenty of ways to cut back to Rt. 22 North) I'm not sure yet how many miles I'm going to target, and it might be a psychological bummer to finish 113 miles back in Pawling and then keep riding south to add on more miles, but we'll see what happens. But this may also work well for riders who are ready to finish at 113 miles. There should be plenty of sunlight with this kind of a ride, and a nice opportunity to eat and hang out in Pawling for a while afterwards.

Unfortunately I just realized June 14 is the day my UU Fellowship
celebrates our Youth Group's April work trip to New Orleans, which I
played the key role in organizing and my son went on. I can't miss it.
Bummer!

Possible add on of additional mileage, to be determined, using much of the same
route running south of Pawling and then back up Rt. 22. (There's plenty of ways
to cut back to Rt. 22 North) I'm not sure yet how many miles I'm going to
