Re: [NYDoubleCentury] I'm in - a couple of questions for the seasoned vets

> 1) Average speed in the past?
Depends on the group. The fastest time recorded on a cool day with mucho
pacelining was 19.3 That is a killer fast pace, but doable with the right
group working together and cool weather.

Other paces have been between 15.5 (min you need to really get back by dark)
and 18.3. I suspect we will be somewhere between 17.5 and 18.5. Higher if we
have a larger strong lead group.

The group will also break up into faster and slower riders. Times above are
for the faster groups.

> 2) Sit down stop for breakfast only (i.e. not lunch), right?
The food stops are as follows:

Dover Plains, 60 miles, 8am - 8:30 arrival time. Quick stop.
Salisbury, 80 miles, water stop only at the public fountain. Good water. I
dump both bottles and refill. It may not be running though.

Shetfield, 105 miles, 11 - 11:30 am arrival time, greasy spoon, I get breakfast
because I think it is great riding fuel, but you can get lunch.

Kent, 135 miles, optional deli stop depending on weather.

Pawling, 155 miles, optional deli stop

Golden's Bridge, 175 miles, optional deli stop

Essentially the stops after 105 are really optional depending on how the group
feels.

> 4) Any estimate of total time for the ride plus the stops?
Depending on the pace, we will get back between 5:30 and 7:30. Figure about 2
hours of stops total on the whole ride. Seems like a lot, but it adds up
quickly.

> 5) Any comment on hilliness?
Relatively flat compared to Westchester riding in general. Flatter than both
the 100 and 125.

The real hills start at 150 miles, including a long haul up 301. I would say
the last 50 miles is what I would call a typical rolling Westchester ride.
Most of the rest of the ride is flater than normal Westchester riding.

I'm in unless weather sucks (chance of rain = I'm in; definite rain = I'm out)... Bruce, I'm trying to recruit two riders (12/24 hour MTB racers and good guys)...

If the weather's decent I'm looking forward to it. Although not in the same shape as the last two years I may be able to cajole another 19'er out of you ;-) ...
