We had 20 riders show up for the start. Unfortunately, I completely
forgot cue sheets (opps!), but several people had them, so we had a
cue sheet for each group.
I looked on the radar before I left, and the rain was coming for
sure. The only question was when. I looked at the cue sheet and
came up with a shortened version of the ride, about 50 miles, but at
the turn off point, everyone wanted to do the 100. So we kept going.
At this point, the sun was out, it was nice out, not cool, and
everyone felt good. The group was about 11 riders at that point.
We did a short stop at the food stop at 40 miles, and then hit the
hills. The rain started just as we were approaching Rt 52 north of
Carmel. I proposed we take 52 all the way into Carmel and then
Stoneleigh and 22 back, but the group wanted to keep doing the route.
At that point it has stopped raining, and we continued to the food
stop at 80 miles with no other rain. After the food stop, it started
spitting, and when we got into Westchester County, it started to
rain, so we cut the ride short and hammered down 202 to 35 and back
to the start.
We still had 100 miles, but only the last 10 of that were in a light
rain. We averaged 18.2, a nice 100 mile pace. A good ride and good
group of riders.
No word yet on the slower group's luck with the rain.
