Bruce,
I fortunately do not have a cast, I have an internal fixation with a 12
hole plate and can not weight bear for 8-12 weeks. If the bone is well
healed at that time I can start to limp along on it and start rehab. Right
now my knee is too stiff (secondary to trauma around the knee from the
injury and surgery) to bend my knee enough to cycle.
Soooooo my best guess re: getting back on the bike is May, maybe late April.
Don't see how I can get in shape for the double by June. Bah Humbug !!! My
Doc wants to go really slow with this thing, he is afraid rushing into
vigorous rehab/ weight bearing excersises will cause too much movement
within the fracture pieces and so delay healing. I would have been better
off with pins because then you can weight bear with less danger of deranging
the fracture sites, but the surgeon who did the surgery felt a plate was the
better repair for my particular fracture, so there is the long winded answer
to your question. It's a pretty nasty femur fracture, I WOULD have to break
the biggest bone in my body!! Anyway it WILL heal and I will just have to
do a solo 200 later in the year !!
Thanks for asking and your concern...
Ta Ta.............Barbara

Barbara,
When are you out of the cast? When can you get back on the bike?
