Hi group.
I have been meaning to post all this info for quite a while, and
Barbara's broken leg was the motivation to do it.
Barbara, can you explain how you break a leg while cross country
skiing in a bowling alley? Van Hovenberg's trails are so wide and
tame it seems impossible to hit anything. I thought only down hill
skiiers broke legs!
Anyway, everyone should start thinking about training for this year's
double. I have been taking spinning classed twice a week since before
Thanksgivving, and it does help improve your fitness. I find the
interval classes are the best for fitness improvement. Make sure you
bring a water bottle and riding shorts or tights. You don't need a
jersey. Most places don't have clipless pedal systems, so bring a
stiff shoe, or old cleated shoes if you still own them.
We have several new members to the group this year, and many who did
not show up last year, so ask any questions.
Also, I hope to get a group that will ride a slower pace this year. I
figure it will average around 15-16 mph. This is the slowest you can
do the double and get back before dark. So if you are not sure of
your speed, then see if you can keep this pace on your training rides.
If you can, you can do the double.
