B Pace Double Century   Message List

All,

Well, so far there are 15 people interested in the B Pace Double Century for
2009.
(approx. 14.5-15mph with only short
rest stops) Is there anyone else you think might be interested?

Again, my goal is to ride at a moderate pace as listed above.
I've never really done long pace lines, and it will be interesting to see what
the actual pace
turns out to be.

Daylight for the ride should be from 5am to about 9pm. 16 hours
Last year, the ride was done on Sunday 6/15th. I plan to do the ride
on whatever date the A riders are planning for this, probably around the same
weekend as
this past year.
Daylight is the key factor.

200 miles divided by 14.5 = 13.8 hours + up to 2.2 hours of rest/mechanical
200 miles divided by 15.0 = 13.3 hours + up to 2.7 hours of rest/mechanical

We could plan for problems and arrange pick up by friends or family, or return
by train.
Bruce Wells says you can get the train back from miles 1 to 50 , and 150 to 200.
I don't prefer the train.
My wife is willing to be "at the ready" to get me, if necessary.
Should have room for one or two others.

Do any of you have friends/family that might also be available to SAG?

Here's the current cue sheet. I haven't checked it yet, but I did see one wrong
turn near
the start.

More later, Ave

Last Sunday, I did 66 mile Alice's Restaurant loop from Salisbury, CT to Stockbridge, MA and back. The ride goes through Great Barrington on the way back to...

I prefer the route from SUNY, for a few reasons - 1) It's more "epic"...it just seems more fun and interesting to ride from Purchase to MA and back. 2) Even if...

I agree with Josh. How about we do the century (adding the Wassaic loop) for practice?...

Josh and Kate, Thanks for the input. Someone else responded about the looping idea: "the need for support goes way down and confidence up". But your...

Ave, You don't want to over train. You build up to it. I think bruce does a 125 mile loop a few weeks earlier. Just think - the double is just two more...

On the subject of training rides, each of the ones used by Bruce is out on the cue sheet. In particular, I have enjoyed the hundred miler out of the Katonah...

Marc and Dave, Thanks for the input. Bruce has told me to think of the ride as (4) fifty mile rides or (8) 25 mile rides. It should help manage the the...

Thomas, Thanks for the time you put into this post! Some of it sounds daunting, of course. Leaving as early before sunrise as possible is a good idea....
