What is the maximum height a person can be for a scooter that has a maximum
handlebar height of 35.5 inches?

Hi all.

After struggling with UK and EU retailers who no longer selling Xootr Scooter, I
was left no other choice but from its origin--Xootr.Com.

The shipping would cost about one third of the price. And there will be import
tax issue later.

However, I really want this craftship and asking you guys who are more
experienced: Shall I order some spare parts ? As it is not convenient to order
from UK if anything goes wrong.

Does Xootr MG has any vulnerable parts?

A nice guys called Steve also provides some free brake pads as goodwill.

Anyway the shipping costs $101 nearly a half of MG but I just want one !!

Is there some reason you did not order the Xootr from www.footbikeshop.com
(English language site for www.stepshop.nl in the Netherlands)? According to
their web site, they had the Mg in stock (price was 225 euros) and the shipping
cost to the UK was 25 Euros. They probably also have spare parts (e.g., brake
pads).

Even if you pay big bucks, it is a worthy investment you will never regret.
Also, all Xootrs are actually free because they all pay for themselves in money
saved on taxi cabs and public transportation. I always take mine with me to
travel and have already saved back its price several times over. In fact, I will
be scooting in China later this month hoping to show them an alternative to
jammed roads and smoke filled cities.

The only parts you might be replacing are wheels or ball bearings, brake pads
and the pin. The deck screws may get stuck, in which case you need a pro shop to
remove them so you can replace a wheel.

While I can't answer your question definitively, I can tell you that I'm 6'4"
and the Xootr's handlebars, which are 38" from the deck, are just right for me,
but if they were much lower I think they'd be too low. I think 35.5 would feel
too low for me.

Despite being caught in the rain going down Riverside Park, I've had a fantastic
time. I've made a quick escape into a coffee shot for a cappuccino on 42nd St
and when the rain was over, I rolled straight to Bway's NoMo (no motorized
vehicles) path and south toward my downtown destination. I've just had to stop
for a few pictures of what is now the beginning of a human-scale mid/lower Bway.
And why shouldn't it be? Isn't it our, the tax payers' city? How civilized to
begin to reclaim it back from the not-so-sexy cars. Sadly, much as I would have
loved to, I haven't rolled into any other kick scooter. Because, even if we
don't realize that we're ready for Bway, Bway is already ready for us!!!

After the one I've had by myself, I'd love to have a "Bringing Regards to Bway"
group ride down Bway. It's nothing short of a gift from the City to us. Let's
not fail to embrace it.

I'm surprised to hear that you have that problem so frequently, as I have rarely
experienced it myself. When I have, it was because I hadn't completely relieved
all pressure against the pins that go into the grooves in the folding mechanism
bracket before attempting to pull the release. Just a slight amount of pressure
(considerably less than the weight of the scooter itself) will cause the pins to
bind in the bracket slots and stick. As long as I make sure that I'm supporting
the A5 in a way that relieves all force against the pins, it operates smoothly.

Perhaps this isn't your problem, but I thought it worth mentioning. Please
forgive me if this is something that was already obvious to you. With my
background as a do-it-yourself mechanic, I do a lot of things intuitively when
it comes to machines; and sometimes it's hard for me to know what is obvious to
others and what isn't.

The web sites did not show the specs for the following:

Know-ped:
1 - For the handlebar they give a measurement of 38" but I'm not sure if the
measurement is from the ground to top of handlebars or from the deck to the top
of handlebars. I also understand that the handlebars are not adjustible, is that
correct? What is the tallest a person can be to ride comfortably?
2 - What is the width & length of the deck?
3 - What is the ground clearance measurement (ground to bottom of deck) and the
measurement from the groung to the top of the deck?
4 - What is the width of the handlebars?
5 - I understand, from reviews, that Xootr has better rolling resistance but how
good is Know-peds rolling resistance?

Xootr:
1 - What is the ground clearance measurement (ground to bottom of deck) and
ground to top of deck?
2 - The maximum weight is 250 lbs. for the mg (metal) and 300 lbs. for the Ultra
Cruz (wood) is that correct?

Angelo,I guess no one wants to bother getting out a ruler to take all of your
measurements.  It's also possible that not everyone has a Xootr and a Knowped to
be able to in the first place too :-).However, out of all the questions, I think
that what you really want to know is whether you can comfortably ride the
Knowped or not.  So, instead of asking for all those dimensions, perhaps if you
just told the group how tall YOU are, we could easily determine if YOU would be
able to ride it.  All of the other questions are easily answered as typical and
comparable. The only real issue is about the rolling resistance and since I have
at least one of each design, I can honestly say that the Xootr scoots about
twice as far as the Knowped for a given kick.  Bottom line, go with the Xootr
and skip the Knowped!

I'm 6'5" tall and have both a KnowPed and a Xootr. They're both great
scooters. The Knowped has a lower handlebar and higher deck than the Xootr.
It also has a wider deck. The wider deck is a bit of an annoyance for me, but
not enough for me to to take a router to the deck, and make it narrower.

The KownPed has a super solid ride, and great brakes. Its also very quiet. For
walking the dog a mile or so, that's my scooter of choice.

For longer rides, the Xootr save the rider energy. A taller rider saves even
more energy because they don't have to bend to the T bar, or dig as deeply to
kick. For a 10 mile day, I'd definitely rather be on the Xootr, despite its
lackluster brakes, and clattery ride.

I also prefer to Xootr for visits to NYC because of its portability: the Xooter
folds up smaller, and comes with an excellent shoulder strap. If you get the
Xootr, I definitely recommend spending on extra money on the shoulder strap.
In my opinion, its much more useful than the carrying bag. The KnowPed takes a
free hand to carry it, and takes a bit of fiddling to get onto the overhead bus
or train racks, or under the seats.

For either scooter, I recommend starting with routes that are flat, or have very
slight hills. For example, if visiting NYC for the first time, try the river
bike routes before Central Park.

Good luck.

Great review! This is exactly the type of information I need.

I'm 6'5" tall and have both a KnowPed and a Xootr. They're both great scooters.
The Knowped has a lower handlebar and higher deck than the Xootr. It also has a
wider deck. The wider deck is a bit of an annoyance for me, but not enough for
me to to take a router to the deck, and make it narrower.

In
my opinion, its much more useful than the carrying bag. The KnowPed takes a free
hand to carry it, and takes a bit of fiddling to get onto the overhead bus or
train racks, or under the seats.

For either scooter, I recommend starting with routes that are flat, or have very
slight hills. For example, if visiting NYC for the first time, try the river
bike routes before Central Park.

Good luck.

I'm new to the group, and not from NYC (though my brother lives in Brooklyn :).
The Seattle area is very hilly, and where I live, there are also a lot of places
where sidewalks suddenly disappear and become a dirt / weeds / packed gravel
shoulder.

After review of the major brands, I decided on the low end Diggler - the Dirt
Dawg. I hope I like it when it arrives (just shipped today, I'm excited!).

If it works out, I am thinking of upgrading in late fall to their next level up,
the Alpha Dawg, and getting the electric attachment, so I can get some boost up
some of these monstrous hills (but still can kick 80% of the time). Just from
my house to the library is a hill that when I lived in WI, would be just right
for a ski hill! :)

Anyway, anyone have a Diggler, experience with one or something like the
Diggler, with pneumatic tires and hand brakes? How do / did you like it?

Thanks!

Do you carry items in a backpack, or do you attach a bag to your scooter? If
you attach a bag, what type and how? I'm thinking of carrying books and small
amts. of groceries.

Thx,

Handles.
Backpack positioned INSIDE of handles put wright more to center.
Balance shopping bags pin either side. Remember the weight of your
body is a counterweight. Go easy.

backpack on the back full of books; groceries on the handlebars - double
line shopping bags (i have had many a milk bottle or block of cheese fall
out of a ripped bag) - balance the bags even weight on left and right -
handles as close to the vertical steering column and most importantly make
sure the scooter can handle the weight of all of the above plus yourself.

take care.

I agree and add something: when the weight of the groceries plus myself is too
much for the scooter I hve found myself using it as a mere shopping cart ! The
alternative would be to carry the groceries AND the scooter. :-(

(I also put the groceries then on the handlebars, although I guess there must be
a simple way to use the deck, adding some patform or basket and securing it...I
leave this to the handymen:-D)

Hey guys n gals,

I have been busy screen printing (unofficial) Xootr T-shirts. They have been
very popular on the street – great for wearing while scooting – gets lots of
smiles.

Basically the shirt has a mono image of my Xootr mag on the front with the text
"It's how I roll". On the back is the Xootr logo and "How I roll".

See photos uploaded here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NYCKickScooters/photos/album/786006692/pic/list

If anyone is interested in purchasing a T-shirt or two (or more) send me a
message. I can source most T-shirt sizes and colours. Also the print colour is
customisable too.

Oh and you can choose to have just the front image and/or just the back image if
you wish.

Happy scooting!

Ben

oops- I meant "It's the way I roll" not "It's how I roll" - the shirts are
as shown in the photos =)

Enjoy.

What is the reason for a larger front wheel? Is it better than the scooters with
the same size wheels?

Me too, my first kick was surrounded by curious eyes and some unfriendly laughs.

But now, I just glide passing them. I know they are only jealous!

Yes, also find sometimes some laughing around, some sarcastic "Nice scooter!" and
more, but I am not the kind of people who cares...and most of the people that
stop me is to ask "where did you get this? How much? I want one!" At my work
they don´t seem to like it much, but they don´t really say anything clear
against it. It is only that some people are a bit narrow minded, or maybe they
would like to do something like this but they don´t dare...For me it is even
more encouraging!

Enjoy your scooter!

All,

In response to hplangford's request (as well as all the other private requests
from members of this group), I took a couple of pictures of the caliper brake
modification that I made to my Street Xootr. I've uploaded them to the Photos
section of this yahoogroups website. The link is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NYCKickScooters/photos/album/1166951347/pic/list

These brakes will enable your Xootr to come to a safe stop, when the roads are
wet or rainy. The brakes grip the sides of the wheel and are not affected if
the road conditions are wet or slippery. This particular Xootr has traveled all
around the world with me, so if the brakes look real worn, well, they are. I am
in the process of modifying several more Xootrs, especially a used Venus that I
just purchased and when I get them done, I'll post pictures of these as well.

I also received several inquiries about where others could get their Xootrs
modified, but since Xootr doesn't offer such a kit, if you are handy, you could
probably figure out how to do it yourself, just from looking at the pictures.
However, being a mechanical engineer, I suppose I could make up some kits, with
all the parts and instructions, on how to install this modification to your
Xootr, soif anyone is interested in getting a kit like this, let me know and I
can work up a price for these mod kits.

Best regards,

Mikey Knackerson
