On June 29, 45 teams gathered for the Cradle of Liberty Adventure Sprint. The event was based in Promised Land State Park in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Teams had 6 hours to complete the 20 mile rogaine style course. Each checkpoint was worth a certain point value, and the goal of the race was to collect as many points as one could in the 6 hour time period. 5 miles on foot through swamp, mountain laurel, and rocky terrain led to a 5 mile paddle on Promised Land Lake, then to a 10 mile mountain bike through grassy trails, and narrow single tracks.
The opening team activity was "an oldy but a goodie"-teams had to fill a water tube and float the ping pong ball to the top of the tube before receiving their passports. It was only then that the team would find out if they would run, bike or paddle first.
The enthusiastic group of racers included experienced teams as well as those brand new to the sport--which always makes the race fun.
Rain dashed in and out of the afternoon section of the course, with sunshine shining down just in time for finish awards and pizza.
Congratulations to the following teams for clearing the course, and collecting all 210 points: Triple J (Coed/3) and Friends of Ed (Male/2).
