It takes a couple of real sadists to design a course with that much elevation gain on the bike and NO downhill. That was a great freshman effort and kind of makes me fearful of what the sophomore course will be like. But did anyone really expect any less from Rodney and Amy.
On another note,
I don't get to race as much as I like, but everytime I get to a race it's like a class reunion-- only better. And the TLD was no different. I saw four men and one small woman that while laying in the dirt I have snuggled close to for warmth. I saw people that I have raced hard against and some that I have raced hard with. A very few that I have beaten and far more that have kicked my ass. But, in all honesty, these people I see only occasionally on weekends are my true friends. We've all been "THERE" To me, "there" seems to be mostly bad things-huge bonks, hours of rain, extremely lost, etc. But there is also a beautiful waterfall, a teammate carrying your pack, and the just plain silly stuff that happens out there.
Anyway, this is that best sport ever. And the people that participate are the toughest coolest people ever. And I am truly honored to be one of them.
Looking forward to seeing all of you the next weekend I can get away from the bike shop,
Jay
