Big Thanks To Anne and Bill, Gift of Life and all the volunteers at
Saturday/Sundays GOALS Cradle of Liberty 24hour Adventure Race.
Great Job!
The Starting leg of urban historic orienteering drew many Amazing
Race questions from locals and tourists.
The highlight of the race was night time mountain biking on the
Wissahickon Single Track. Wissahickon single track is full of
rocks, roots, hills and some bloody knees.
More night time spooky eyed deer in Valley Forge than racers.
The last foot orienteering leg at Valley Forge Betzwood was painful,
the flat terrain gave no relief of walking hills after a marathon
distance on foot.
Many hills, a broken chain and derailleur, and the constant urge of
stopping for breakfast made for difficult ride west to from Valley
Forge to Marsh Creek.
A Fun rock wall climb awaited us at Vertical Extreme in Downingtown.
Next up was a Sweet twisty single track mountain biking at Marsh
Creek.
Lastly the paddle at Marsh Creek with wind and the endlessly long
fingers of Marsh Creek Lake made for what seemed like very slow
progress to the finish line.
My teammates Keith and Sue were awesome! Both are 1st time AR
virgins. After 5 falls in Wissahickon and nearly riding off a cliff
Sue just persevered onward. Keith is a bike drafting machine. Both
are now comtemplating the conversion from triathlon to the dark side
of Adventure Racing.
Congratulations to all the other racers. Great fun competition with
our friends from ARFE and American Adventure Sports, and Golds
Extreme. It was fun seeing the 6hr racers finishing the
simultaneously with the 24hr racers.
Thanks,
Bruce Wong
