Ahhhh, Carol, now you see why I consider riding Mt. Adams one of my very favorite places to ride!! I think the back side, where Keanes is, is really pretty and very similar to the horse camp I camp at, which is easy to see where its located. Just google "Mt. Adams Horse Camp" and you will easily find it.
Were the trails out of Keanes easy to find? Well marked? Any trail maps at camp? I see that they were well cleared, which is good considering how little most mountainous areas got cleared this season cause of the late snow. No corrals at Keanes? Your portable corrals look very efficient.
My girls & I went to Quinn Meadows for 4 days earlier that week and I was planning on coming home and getting a fresh mare and joining you a couple days later but one mare had a bump/swelling on her back leg, so couldn't join you. :-( Tessa was tired after 4 days in Central OR.
Looks like you had great weather and good trails.
Carol, you show me Keanes next year and I'll show you Mt. Adams Horse Camp area? Deal? I LOVE riding new areas!
By the way, how does that Pomaranian dog stay on the back of your saddle? Probably helps to have a smooth horse.

New country to explore. This year we have tried out two new places that we enjoyed. First was Sam Brown Horse camp near Grants Pass. The camp itself does need some repair work on the corrals but we loved riding the trails in the shade and along a creek. This is old mining country and there are many that are still active. We ride our horses on the rough trails and they are packing in on foot all of their gear and even dredges. The camp has a hand pump for water, and corrals for the horses. The last 14 miles to get to the camp is a very narrow, winding, paved road. We have a one ton truck with a three horse LQ trailer and it took us 45 to 55 minutes to go that last 14 miles. It was worth it and I would love to go back again some day, riding through the beautiful Madrone groves and riding in the shade most of the day were big pluses for me.Next we went with Margo Mittge and Linda Guadagni to Keenes Horse Camp at Mt Adams. Here the weather was much cooler. Margo found us a camp spot next to a roaring creek and across from a beautiful meadow that was full of flowers. Margo had brought a spare horse for her friend Don, and Don brought all of the firewood that we would need for the weekend. We pot lucked every night with good food and drinks, wonderful riding with beautiful views and gave the horses a pretty good workout. It was about the month of May on Mt. Adams with the flowers blooming and the snow still melting. We got to try out our new portable corral that we designed and made ourselves. It worked pretty good if I do say so.This is a link to the pictures of these beautiful rides. http://picasaweb.google.com/ pasolucy/ SamBrownMtAdams Later,CarolNo virus found in this incoming message.
