Shelby,
Great idea!!
One suggestion, for the first time out you might consider is a check point
ride. You don't have to have all the Poker ride paraphernalia, all you need
is a map and a ticket with five or six boxes on it that would be punched or
initialized at ea. ck. point.

Subject: [NWPFHA] Poker Rides
Hello everyone, I lived in California and I was apart of a few four
wheel drive clubs and there where tons more all around like some
were clubs just for jeeps and some just for broncos ect. there where
also clubs that it didnt mater what you drove. Anyway back to my
point, I have noticed that when a club goes on a trail ride on those
who have the same breed of horse are the only ones encuraged to go,
this is where we hurt ourselves in the money department. This is
just an idea coming from my 4x4 club back ground:
I will use horse clubs for my exaple, what would happen is the paso
fino club would set up a poker ride and make flyers for a big
weekend trip and maybe put it in the horse trader and it would also
be in the newsletter that was sort of the hub of the wheel which I
think is nw gaited horse club ( since they are an all encompasing
gaited horse club).
The ad would say somthing like this: 1st annual poker ride at ocean
city beach washington at the ruff ranch camp ground put on by the nw
paso fino club all breeds welcome registration due by 10/15/06
poker ride on 10/25/06 registration is for one horse and rider and
with it you get one dinner ticket, one poker hand, one breakfast
ticket and one raffle ticket. You can buy addtional pokerhands for
$10, dinners for $12, breakfast for $6, raffles for $1 each. And any
additional information that was needed to tell to the public that we
would like to come
How poker rides work:
-poker hands- each rider gets one hand and may have the option of
buying more hands for x amount of money at the end of the ride who
ever has the best hand (or top three hands) at the end of the ride
wins a prize
-riders get there cards for their poker hand through out the trail
ride (cards are folded up and stapled so you can't see what you
have) sometimes there are games at the places where you get your
poker card
-raffle tickets- the club who is putting on the ride will need to
come up with items for a raffle these items are like the aution stuff
Those are the basics of what I figured, the registration needs to
cover all the cost like the breakfast, dinner, rent of the
campground, raffle tickets etc. That would leave the raffle tickets
and the pokerhand money for the club. Most likely there would be
extra money from the registration cost as well.
I dont know if this will work with horses but it sure works with 4
wheel drives. I had to let you all know one of my many ideas how to
get us going to the postive side of things.
Let me know what you think and Amanda and I would be willing to
cordinate a poker ride and see how well it works.
