Yesterday I received a call from the Hunter’s (thanks
you two for staying on top of this!) regarding a meeting that is to be held on
November 9, 2007. They faxed us a letter that they had received regarding this
meeting. The manager, Dave Koellermeier, and committees have been in the
process of developing a “Business Plan”/Master Plan for the “Aesthetic
enhancement oat the Oregon State Fair and Expo Center”. This is
following the acquisition of the Oregon State Fair and expo Center becoming a “Division”
of the Oregon State Parks and Recreation department. Their goal being to “identify
the best alternatives for the potential redevelopment
of the grounds and facilities”.
Long story/shortened they wish to mainly discuss and update
the attendees of this meeting on the status of the horse facilities and address
changes to the State Fair and Exposition horse show programming.
What we have been told by individuals is that they are trying to eliminate the
horse show from the State Fair altogether! Now whether you are a “show
person” or not, this could have some long tern implications for all the
horse breeds for years to come. I am shocked as they apparently do not realize
the fiscal impact that this decision will have on the State Fair in general!
Not to mention the exclusion of the equestrian community, 4H’rs, etc.
The items up for discussion include: (I am quoting from the
letter)
-
Options to better serve and meet our legislative
objectives
-
Changes and updates in policies, procedures and
industry standards
-
Timelines on facilities restoration and repairs.
I wish to encourage as many of you as possible to make the
effort to attend this meeting & be informed!
The meeting, again, is on Thursday, November 9, 2007 at 6 PM
in the Pavilion. Refreshments will be provided .
They are requesting you RSVP by phone 503-947-3247 or email
to nancy.frketich@...
For those of you who are able to attend, please keep me
informed?!
