Re: [NWPFHA] Re: End of July ride at Keene's Horse Camp

Hi  everyone I will check  on the trail conditions  and what is open at Keenes.   I live right next door to  the Cowlits Valley Ranger Station  so I don't  have to go far to check with the Forest Service.  I will let  you know by Monday.   Also if anyone is unsure about how to  get to  Keenes they are welcome to  overnight here at my place and caravan up in the morning.   I live right on highway 12.  If you are coming from  the East you have to pass me  to  get to  the turn off to  Keenes.   If you are coming  from the West,  I  am  only about a mile past the turn off.   I  have stalls, paddocks, a round pen,  and plenty of electrical plug ins and water hookup  for your camper or horse trailers.   You don't need a  Forest  service pass  if you park  in the overnight  spots  at Keenes.   You  need  a  pass for  the day spots so  if you have one  bring  it.  (It's  a  long  story how that one worked out!)   We all  should be able to park in the overnights but   If  anyone needs a pass, I  have an extra.   Cookie Troxel

Has anyone checked with the USFS to find out if the trails at Keenes
Horse Camp on the north side of Mt. Adams are open. Information I
was given say they are NOT open due to extensive damage this winter.
I was planning to go to this ride but it's a long drive to find
trails blocked by many down trees. I know for a fact that several of
the roads in the area were damaged this winter and can not be
driven.
There is another horse camp on the south side of Mt. Adams that is
very nice and those trails are cleared. Also the Cody Horse Camp
further north of Mt. Adams is open. Hopefully the organizers of this
ride will check conditions and let us know. I also suggest that
anyone planning on attending this ride check out conditions for
themselves. I've ridden at Adams many times and it can be lovely but
there are other horse camps available. I'm planning to camp at St.
Helens (Kalama Horse Camp) earlier in the week if anyone wants to
join us.
