Hey all, it seems to be that time of year again...
 
Sheffield Steal Open training is starting next Saturday, 24th January, at 9.30am in Hillsborough Park. 
 
Last year was a fantastic season for Steal, culminating in a 10th place finish at Nationals/EUCR-W, and the club is looking to push on and cement a place in the A Tour again this year.  Trainings are open to all comers, whatever your experience or talent, and will be running almost every other week.  All the training dates and directions to the park can be found at http://www.sheffieldultimate.com/training.
 
Any enquiries for the coming season can be directed to me, and either I or Pete will get back to you.

Brit Disc,

Trial outs for the LeedsLeedsLeeds squad are starting. We will be
playing in the top 8 of the UK Tour this year and are attending Tom's
Tourney in Brugge, 1st - 3rd May, as part of our season.

Trials will be held on the 24th & 25th January, 14th & 15th February
and 7th & 8th March. From 11am -2pm each day.
As part of trials we will attend the EMO warmup tournament on 28th
February & 1st March.

Sorry for the delay in announcing details. Here is the current team
list for NWL 2 next Sunday. With 12 teams we will need to start at 9.
If any team requires an early start can you let me know asap as I'll
be writing the schedule early next week. Same goes if your situation
has changed with team numbers from your club. 0.5 next to your club
below signifies you've said you want to mix with another team. Please
let me know numbers of players so I can mix the teams appropriately.

Public Announcement:

Sheffield Steal Presents Summer League!

 

Open to all, this eleven week league (including playoffs) is a great way to get involved or stay involved with frisbee over the summer.

 

Ultimate Frisbee, for those who don't know is a fast-moving team sport enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of players the world over.  Played with a frisbee (flying disc), teams attempt to complete a  pass the disc over the endzone line of their opponents to score points. Although frequently compared to sports like soccer or American Football, Ultimate has some unique features that set it apart.

 

Held on Thursday evenings at 7pm in Hillsborough Park in Sheffield, the co-ed league will feature 5 a side play.  Games will be to 13 with a 90 minute time cap.  The first league games will be held on July 3rd, with a meet your team/learn the rules event to be held in Endcliffe Park on the 2nd.

 

To register, all you need to do is send an e-mail to mcbumsted@....  That e-mail needs to have your name, gender and your experience level rated from 1-3 (1. never played/just started, 2. played casually/ some experience 3. played on tour or equivalent).   You can sign up as an individual or as a group.  We will do our best to balance the teams relative to experience.

 

Here are the important dates all at once:

Registration: June 18-June 30

Team Creation/Schedule Building June 28-30

Wednesday July 2: Pickup/ Meet up with teams/Captains Meeting

First League Night: Thursday July 3

Last League Night: Thursday August 28

Playoffs: Thursday September 4th and 11th (These dates are malleable depending on how many teams, etc.)

 

So sign up! Bring a friend! Bring two! Come an discover a sport you never even thought about.  You may just find the sport you've been looking for.

  It shows you a way that you can help us get the GB squads to
Vancouver without any cost to yourself.

Go to the following website: http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk.  (You
will have to register - sorry - but it only takes a minute).

When you register, simply choose your cause from the list (under "G"
you'll see various GB squads)

There are three ways that you can raise money for the GB squads:
1 - online shopping
2 - free trials
3 - easysearch

1 - Online Shopping

Whenever you are doing your online shopping, simply go to
http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk first, log in, then search for a
retailer from there.  They have a deal with all the big names (Amazon,
Play.com <http://play.com/>, HMV, Tesco, WHSmith, Comet, etc etc) and
whenever you buy
something from any of those websites while using
http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk as a portal, those same 'big name'
companies donate money to our cause!  It's really that simple.

It costs you exactly the same amount of money as it would to shop
there normally.  Each company donates a different amount; around 2-4%
of the total purchase will be given to the GB teams.

2 - Free Trials

In addition, there is a link called 'Free Funds'
[http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/raise_funds_for_free/] that allows
you to raise money for us *without spending any money yourself*.  For
instance, take out a free 2 week trial at LoveFilm and they donate £8!
  (you can cancel for free immediately without spending a penny, or
simply enjoy the free dvd rental)

3 - easysearch

Use the following : http://gbultimate2.easysearch.org.uk/ and you don't even
need to register to use it.

Now here's the kicker.  Don't keep this to yourself.  Email it to regional
lists, club lists,
friends, relatives, colleagues and more.  The more people using this
stuff, the more money we can raise and it doesn't cost you a thing.
