Hub speed is slow but tip speed is fast. They are only turning one
revolution in 3 seconds, but the tip speed is about 175 MPH. I found
that on a wind turbine web site and just to make sure I did the math and
175 is correct.

the dams because the power grid could not handle all the power they where
putting out. It takes 6 years for one to pay for its self with a life span of 15
to 25 years. ADD IT UP $$$$$$$$. I think they are good.but I can see if I was a
neighbor and didn't get any money for it would not want it in my back yard.

$3K/month for a windmill on their land. Some of that treeless grazing land is
pretty parched and useless (for grazing at least) by the end of June. A
"windfall" for the farmers there, so to speak. A couple of those on my property
and I'd retire and become a full-time sail/surf bum!
>>
>> Naturally, feelings are mixed. Some of the locals are definitely not
impressed. But the landscape is morphing and very interesting in the eastern
Gorge these days. For those who are infrequent visitors, the drive up/down the
hill at Maryhill takes you very close to a few that are not yet in production.

desert: 100s of wind mills. Up close by the highway in vicinity of Maryhill and
Goldendale, but they could also be seen in the distance all the way east along
the Columbia River. And these are not the small kind that I've seen before
around Leavenworth; rather some huge slick beasts that I think landed from outer
space (or perhaps from Siemens). Blades 150 feet long, very cool design, camera
will love these. Western WA in general seems like a "green" place, with all the
wind, solar and hydro (Columbia) energy sources. Great to see that "green" is
not just talk; it is actually happenning.
