THANK YOU guys for all the info and help, in getting me caught up a bit, on the
new "City League" program. I have very little (almost none) experience with
sailing in the Sound... But I'll be back :)
The Des Moines marina park area that you use works very well.
This was my first City League race in more than 10 years, and it was fun!! And
the conditions were very favorable to my 15 year old Bic Bamba and UP 8.2 race
sail. Was I the only one there with an alum. boom? That's 15 years old?
Well hey! at least I have a carbon mast :)
It was obvious that I haven't sailed much in the last 10 years... and I REALLY
WISH I was in better "sailing shape" for last Wednesday's race. Five races were
run: starting out the evening with winds in the 10 to 15 range, and ending up
with at least 15 to 20.
Of course, this is nothing for regular Gorge sailors, but for out-of-shape me,
this was a marathon! Even though, I felt my harness lines were adjusted
properly, my arms and hands were shot during the 4th race. I never should've
even started the 5th one... which I couldn't finish... And was just VERY
THANKFUL that I even made it back to the beach.
Thanks Bret - for helping to get my gear out of the water.
Thanks John - for all the pre-race beach info.
Thanks Leslie - for the link to all those pics.
Thanks Glenn, Mark and Rick - for the help and info and setting this up.
And Glenn, thank your wife again, for braving the cold and windy conditions up
on the pier to handle the starts, etc.
I'd encourage any W. Wa. windsurfers to get to Des Moines for any of the
Wednesdays in May and June to participate in this. It's free and you'll have
fun. This is a very nice and helpful bunch that is the core of City League
now... and they're just wanting to have fun. The focus is much more on everyone
enjoying an evening sailing together... as opposed to overly aggressive
competition and arguing about rules. And you don't need: expensive, fancy, new
gear... I used 15 year old, heavy, recreational equipment. I mean, my gear
wasn't even state-of-the-art in 1993... so I'm sure that you have something in
your garage that would work just fine :)
I'll be back - thanks!!
