kitesurfing was cancelled today at GG :-) the wind really kicked in
shortly before 5pm -- Bernhard took an annenometer reading of 44mph
today on metal point. spray was blowing off the
top of the whitecaps
I pulled out a 4.7 fully downhauled and flattened, and was
completely wound out on the water. Gary was powered on 4.2.
Really big & long glassy swell trains rolled by steadily, one after
the other, just outside of the can. Low tide north of the point made
for some impressive onshore wave sailing conditions. I pointed
upwind around the point and snuck into Carkeek for a few reaches --
Carkeek of all places was filled in with head high, peeling swells
rolling in.
Some fun airtime and really fun wave riding off the point. I ate it
in the breakzone above the point once, and got rolled about 1/8 mile
down past the point. Then on another reach I got sucked into the
draft of a big wave that broke on the submerged sandar near the can
like. It must have looked pretty funny from the beach because I was
just zipping along when all of a sudden I just seemed to disappear
as I got sucked 3 ft under with my gear. pretty wild conditions.
conditions at GG, and particularly up in Carkeek, were worthy of any
ripping session at West Beach.
