Hello,
I hope you all are enjoying what we can officially call "SUMMER" in New England.
The last few weeks have been rough weather on Sunday morning but luckily the
rain has not interfered once. We had another epic game last weekend with around
23 players total.
Have a look at the promotional flier I put together for this weekend:
http://d.yimg.com/kq/groups/20247217/sn/1694037440/name/ultimate-disc-wwf.jpg
I'm quite excited for a big game on Sunday. The perfect redemption from a
gluttonous 4th of July barbecue would be running around chasing a disc on
Sunday. Let's hope for beautiful weather this week and the rest of the season.
Have a great holiday,
Webb

Mighty fine weather this weekend we think. We actually got together on Thursday at Murphy's field this week, but it might not be a regular thing yet with the RIPUL league starting up too. If anyone else is interested we can start trying to rally for the Thursday night games again as well!
Sunday is always on though. We played through the non-existent rain the past 2 weeks with at least a dozen players each time.

We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting signups for the 2009 summer league, our 14th season. Please go here to fill out your application online RIPUL 2009 application . However, be aware that your application is not official until you have mailed me a check for $70 ($20 for captains) made payable to "RIUPA, INC." or "RIPUL", along with your signed waiver (print the waiver from the website). Matthew Brier, 2 Dexter Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
Games will be held every Monday and Wednesday starting June 1st at 6:00 PM. We will have a 22 game schedule so you will play every team twice. Playoffs this season are scheduled for all day on Saturday August 15th, fruit and water provided, pizza and award ceremonies following the finals.
Some of you might be aware that we will not be using the Wheeler School fields in Seekonk this season. Thanks to the assistance of Dr. Bill Brown, we were able to secure alternative fields with the Town of Seekonk. We will have 5 games scheduled at Directions to the Cole St. fields and a 6th game at Directions to the Pleasant St. fields. For July and August, our 6th game will be at North Street School off Route 152 in Seekonk also.
It is imperative that we all put our best foot forward and not risk jeoparding ths fields because if we lose these fields also, we risk losing RIPUL forever. Accordingly, any use of alcohol, drugs, and/or any other inappropriate behavior (loitering after dusk, for instance) will be grounds for immediate dismissal from RIPUL.
Because these fields do not cost as much, I have reduced our rate from $80 to $70 and for captains from $30 to $20. This fee includes open pickup in May, as well as polypro wicking shirts that are even nicer than last year's. But that's not all....Everybody is also going to receive a free RIPUL disc as well!!!
We will once again offer a $10 discount for new women (those who have never played organized disc before) and those who recruit them. If you are taking the $10 discount, please note who recruited you on your waiver.
Signups are on a 1st come/1st served basis so if you get me your check early and often, you will be all set. For those who wait to the last minute, you run the risk of being shut out. Those men who recruit a new woman but do not sign up until the last minute will get priority. So, you can be a slacker at no risk so long as you recruit a new woman. Women, please sign up sooner rather than later, so we can feel confident that we will have enough women to support 12 teams.
I am still looking for more sets of captains. Beside getting to choose your own team and be the boss, you also only pay $20 for signup. Please email me directly if interested.
We are going to have pickup on Monday May 4, 11, 18, and 25 at Directions to the Cole St. fields. Pickup on wednesday May 6, 13, 20, 27 will be at Directions to the Pleasant St. fields. The Cole Street fields we will have 2 fields for May 4 and 11 and 3 fields May 18, 25. The Pleasant Street field can only accomodate 1 field.
Lastly, we are again offering free summer league membership to whoever wins the best t-shirt design. I need submissions no later than May 16th. If you can put the design in Adobe Illustrator that would be ideal.
We are looking forward to another great season of RIPUL. And, do not forget that after every game we all converge at The Merrell a few minutes from the fields for dinner and cocktails. Any ?s, send them my way.

Just because the forecast calls for thunderstorms this sunday at 10am doesn't
mean you should make alternative plans. :)
Anything can happen in the next 36 hours so be ready to go. Hopefully we can
play rain or shine! Some of the best games have been in between storms so stay
tuned. Sunday 10am at the high school.

They will be having a 5k race at the high school Sunday morning. So show up
early and maybe we'll inspire others to join us! We've been doing 5 on 5 with
subs so the ultimate is in full effect now.
I have the cones, jerseys, and disc this week. Ready to rock,
Webb
OK - It was true - everyone was busy with family and Easter Sunday.
We had 9 competitors step up to the challenge last week for a wonderful spring
game.
SO you can pretty much bet if weather is nice we'll be playing again next
Sunday!
Cheers,
Webb

Hi! The warm weather yesterday got me thinking about disc again so I *finally* went to sign up for the Newport Ultimate Facebook group. It said it was a closed group so I clicked to subscribe. If I found the right group, please sign me up. I would like to play once the game starts back up. Thanks!

Thanks John and Webb for throwing the disc around with me last week. Fun! :) Sorry I arrived too late to play. I must be on a bad karma cycle as I saw a physical therapist yesterday and he says I need to take some time off. So alas I can't play tomorrow. :( Looks like I'll be hooking up with you guys in the spring!!

You should post on Facebook because there are more people on there for Newport Utlimate Group in fact and certainly other clubs there too! This yahoo group is much smaller than the Facebook one. Hopefully someone from our little group though will step up with more info for you! Craigslist is sketchy but sometimes useful too:
Sorry no one was there Sunday. I personally was in bed late and did not like the temperature outside and the crazy winds outside that morning! The week before was holiday weekend and we had about 11 show up - which is pretty low considering how perfect the weather was! Numbers are dropping off and Thursday game is definitely over with until next year. Several regulars have "shut it down" because of injury in the last month or 2. That is terrible luck you came when no one else showed though.
Will try to post on here if it looks CERTAIN we are having a game but otherwise it might be a gamble each weekend. However, we had several great games over Christmas "break" in past years! So it's not all over, just slowing down!
I was like 15 minutes late and alas no one was there. It wasn't even far from Wickford. I don't know how I got lost my first time trying to find the game. . . well I know the street sign on Wickham Rd is missing! (grin)
I can't play Thurs nights. . is the Sun game over for the season??? Please let me know.
Hey will you folks please post any other fun outdoors activities you do if a bunch of you are going. . . hiking, mt biking, skiing, etc. Thanks! :)
I do just about every sport outdoors . . the more hardcore stuff the better.. . winter climbing Katahdin, backcountry skiing that sort of thing. I moved to RI Sept 1st and am having trouble finding people in RI who do this stuff. In Maryland and Oregon my ultimate friends were usually the most up for outdoors stuff so I am disappointed to have missed your game the last few weekends whenI was out of town.

We actually played - but you never know on a day like today - only 7
of us were there. Hopefully we can keep getting enough to play long
into fall and the winter. We'll see. Next week let's hope no rain!
Last week I was in Florida but I heard they only had 3 people show up
in the rain then.
I think it will be good because a lot of people have next Monday off.
