Pursuant to an Order of the New Jersey Superior Court, Somerset County,
New Jersey in the case of Cheryl Delaney and Steven A. Caputo v. New
Jersey Division of the United States Fencing Association Inc. and Deborah
Bratsko, Defendants, Case No. Som-C-12067-08, the 2008 election of
officers, executives committee members, and members of the national
USFA Congress scheduled for July 27, 2008 was cancelled on July 25,
2008 and a new election was ordered by the court to be held on September 6
or 7, 2008. The Court has now found that the officers and executive
committee failed to comply with the Court Order dated July 26, 2008 by
failing to conduct the election in accordance with instructions given by the
Court and, as a result, the election scheduled for September 7, 2008 has
now been cancelled by the Court. The Court has appointed a Special
Master to oversee conduct of the new election. Copies of the Court Order
in this case dated July 25, 2008, September 3, 2008, and this Order, together
with any further Orders of the Court will be posted on the website.
Go to www.njfencing.org for operative parts of orders in Delaney and
Caputo vs. New Jersey Division USFA. The Division will also
occasionally post additional orders and applicable pleadings for the
information of members of the Division on the Division's home page.
The NJ Division Election originally set for this coming Sunday has
been adjourned. Documentation relating to the adjournment of the
election is available at http://www.njfencing.org/c18fec27.pdf
Additional details as to the upcoming election parameters will be
posted within the week. We regret any inconvenience that this
adjournment may cause to any of our members who may have planned to
attend the election meeting.
To all NJ Division Members,
Disclosure statements of all candidates in the upcoming election have
been linked again from the home page of the Division website
www.njfencing.org, and can be accessed directly at

These Disclosure Statements are required by our ByLaws and are meant
to give the Membership valuable information concerning the candidates
for each elective office.

I have uploaded a file to this bulletin board which contains the USFA
tournament dates and deadlines. The file shows the regular and late
entry fee deadlines, as well as the deadlines for USFA to receive
classification changes that will processed before each tournament.
The file section of the bulletin board also has the day schedules
and, where available, the close of check in times for NAC tournament
events, as well as the 2008-2009 NAC entry form.
Hotels are available for all of the USFA tournaments, including the
Junior Olympics and the 2009 Summer Nationals. As hotels fill
quickly, please consider booking your hotel early. Please also check
the cancellation and booking policies for the hotels (which can be
found on the THS site for each tournament). Some hotels require
cancellations as long as 14 days before the date of arrival and/or
require a minimum number of nights for the booking. The THS website
is:
http://www.thsweb.com/index_sport.cfm?sportname=fencing
Fencers can use tripadvisor or similar websites to find out more on
the hotels. Services such as Kayak.com can be used to find
additional hotel options, as well as air travel options. Kayak has a
feature that allows users to look at distances from the convention
center in reviewing hotels.
The venue for next weekend's Garden State Games has been changed. It is no
longer at
Stevens Institute. The GSG will now be held at Fairleigh Dickinson University's
Ferguson
Recreation Center on the FDU College at Florham Campus, 285 Madison Avenue,
Madison, NJ
07940. All other dates and times remain the same. For a map go to

Dear Tournament Committee and Member Clubs,
The NJ Division will be conducting its tournament scheduling meeting
for the coming year on August 10th at 7:30 pm. The location will be
announced in a separate email by this weekend.
Any clubs or organizations wishing to conduct NJ Division-sanctioned
tournaments must appear at the meeting to seek those date(s)/event(s)
and must be represented by an owner of that club or a designated
representative. Any "designated representative" must present written
authority from the club in question to act on behalf of -- and to bind
-- such club.
Additionally, all clubs must deliver the executed MOU document prior
to the meeting. Only clubs which have (a)renewed or established USFA
membership and (b) which have executed and delivered the current
version of the MOU will be permitted to request or receive NJ Division
sanctioned tournaments. The current version of the MOU was previously
adopted by the Executive Committee and was transmitted to all Clubs of
record on May 28. If you require additional copies, please advise.
Finally, the Executive Committee is currently considering a "bid
process" for NJ Division events [e.g. Fall Festival, JO Qualifiers,
etc.]. The dates for these events will be set aside at the
calendaring meeting on August 10th. However, the EC expects to
submit "bid" guidelines shortly thereafter.
We look forward to seeing all of you on August 10th.
Vince Paragano
Chairman, USFA/NJ Division
In order to address concerns by some members about the short time
interval for submission of ballots and proxies, the voting portion of
this Sunday's Annual Meeting will be adjourned to a later date. The
date and details of that meeting will be posted on the Division's
website within the next ten (10) days. All other business scheduled
for Sunday's Annual Meeting will be conducted in accordance with the
previous draft agenda.
The 2008-2009 USFA Membership Form has been posted to the file section
of this message board. Memberships can also be obtained or renewed
online at usfencing.org at a small fee. The new season starts August 1
and a valid 2008-2009 USFA membership is needed to participate in
tournaments in August, so this is a good time to renew.
The 2008-2009 Entry Form for USFA North American Cups (NAC) has been
added to the file section of this message board. The USFA also
anticipates offering online NAC registrations beginning in August.
To clarify the discussion regarding lowering the entry fee for the
Division tournaments next season, the Executive Committee is
considering lowering the entry fee to $25, a $10 savings over the
current entry fee, as part of the 2008-2009 proposed budget. The
proposed budget will be presented to the membership at the Annual
Meeting. The Division-run tournaments are the Junior Olympic and
Summer National Qualifiers, the Fall Festival, the Hayfever, the NJ
Division Championships and the Denise O'Connor Tournaments. We are
considering this option because the Division is in a financial position
to do this and in recognition of the difficult economic times that we
are currently experiencing.

Ballot and proxy packets are in the mail
To all members:
Ballot and proxy packets went into the mail yesterday and should be received by
Saturday. Everyone on USFA's Official NJ Division list [voting members as of
2/1/08] should receive a packet. All mail-in votes and proxies must arrive in
official, control-numbered envelopes.
If you do not receive a packet and believe you are a "voting member" [joined by
2/1/08 and over age of 18 by that date], then please check the national list at:
http://www.usfencing.org/usfa/content/view/1895/150/
(You can use the individual listings or the downloadable file)
If you are on the list but did not get the packet, please email the division
secretary, Debbie Bratsko. Her contact information is on the NJ website
http://www.njfencing.org/ in the "About the NJ USFA/Officers/Committees/How to
Contact" page.
regards, Jeff
Tournament Housing Services (THS) has posted hotel information and is
accepting reservations for hotels for all of the 2008-2009 North
American Cups, the Junior Olympics and the 2009 Summer National
Championships. This information can be found at:
http://www.thsweb.com/index_sport.cfm?sportname=fencing
As some locations sell out quickly and the day/check in schedules are
available for all the NACs and JOs, its a good idea to book as soon as
possible. When booking, please be sure to check the cancellation
policy of the hotel. If you want to find out more about the hotel
offerings, I recommend searching tripadvisor.com.

44 plus 12 bronze medals too.
12 bronze medalist are all the way in the bottom of the file.
Good news correction -- The file sort placed the individual bronze
medals towards the bottom of the sheet -- NJ fencers brought home 56
individual medals! Even better!
I have uploaded a file of the results for New Jersey fencers at Summer
Nationals. The results are stunning -- 5 Champions among the 44
individual medals awarded to NJ Division members! In addition, the

both won bronze medals.
Congrats to all!!
The Executive Committee has voted to permit all candidates for Division
