I am reciving a lot of emails about the team qualifiers that show a
fundamental misunderstanding about how they work and what they mean.
Individuals do not qualify for the team competition, clubs do. A club
can only qualify one team for each event and it chooses the fencers
who will be on the team at the Nationals or the Div 1 Team
Championship. The fencers the club chooses to compete at the
Nationals/Championship do not have to be the same fencers who
competed at the qualifier.
If Frankie Foil cannot make the team qualifiers on Sat because he is
fencing in the State Squads, his club must find a substitute to take
his place on the team. If Frankie's club qualifies a team and his
club chooses him to go to the National and compete, Frankie is
eligible to go.
Remember, even though this is a Sr/Div 1 Team Qualifier anyone
qualified to compete in an open event can be on a team, they don't
have to have a C or better. The can be a U, E, etc. But, they must
have previously represented their club at some USFA event during the
season. That means that a fencer who is listed as unattached cannot
fence for a club in these team qualifiers.
