To all members:
On September 27, 2007, the Division membership adopted our new bylaws which
established the procedures for the upcoming elections of the officers, executive
committee members and representatives to the USFA Congress. The IEC chose
December 1, 2007 as the date for the special meeting of the Division membership
to hold these elections, and this date was circulated to the Division and posted
to the Division's schedule.
The new bylaws provide for nominations to be made by the Division nominating
committee and also by petition from the membership. The bylaws require that a
nomination by petition from the membership be signed by at least 20 voting
members and be submitted to the Division's Secretary at least 30 days before the
election.
Because the Division membership is unfamiliar with this new nominating
procedure, and to make sure that anyone wishing to file a petition was not
unfairly cut off, it was decided to extend the filing deadline by two weeks to
allow nominating petitions to be received as late as November 14, 2007. In
response, some wishing to be nominated by petition have complained that allowing
this extra time to file means that those petitioners who take advantage of the
extension will have less than 30 days to lobby the Division membership for their
votes. As a result, it has been decided that:
The December 1, 2007 Special Meeting For The Elections Will Be Moved.
The New Date And Time Is Sunday, December 16, 2007 At 3:00 PM. The New Place Is
To Be Announced.
This is the same date as the second day of the Division's JO-U17 Qualifiers and
the meeting will held at the same place as the Qualifier. As soon as we have
confirmed the venue, we will let the Division membership know. The sole purpose
of this special meeting and the only item permitted on the agenda will be the
receipt and counting of the ballots cast in person or by proxy for these
elections. Each voting member of the Division will receive further notice of
these procedures in the ballot packages which will be mailed out to them later
this month.
For those wishing to run in these elections, please understand that to be
eligible to run, you must be an eligible voter in this election. To be an
eligible voter in this election you must have been a member of this Division and
over the age of 18 as of February 1, 2007.
Pursuant to the Division's bylaws, nominations on written petition to run for
election as an officer, executive committee member or representative to the USFA
Congress must be signed by at least 20 voting members of the Division and must
be received by the Division's Secretary no later than 3:00 PM on Friday,
November 16, 2007. The petition should be accompanied by an approved disclosure
statement completed and signed by the candidate. The approved disclosure
statement may be found at
www.njfencing.org/forms/Disclosure_statement_final.pdf. It may also be found in
the file section of the Division's Yahoo Announce Board. The address for
delivery of completed petitions and disclosure statements is as follows:
