Hi Cammy,

I am selling both of my 20 year old QH mares --- my daughters want to do
more Hunter shows, so I think now is the time to put the girls (horses, not
my kids!) up for sale.....I have ads in VA Equestrian, Equine.com and
Dreamhorse.  Would you also put out an ad for me in your 'circles"..... Lena and Missy are their names.  I'm selling Lena for $2,000 and Missy for $2,500; if they go as a pair I will sell them for $4,000.  They both are Great for trails and still have loads of energy, they are also well suited for the beginner - adv. Beginner rider.  Both are jumping small courses -- Missy loves to jump and we've jumped her up to 2'6" w ease' although we like to keep it at 2 ft., which is more enjoyable.  They both are in super health w/ no issues.  Easy keepers....I give them Equine Senior and do not give supplements to them -- they are doing great.

I really want to sell them soon, b/c I've seen a number of horses that may be good for my girls and it is a good time to "shop"....this is what I'm looking
for, if you know anything.....16.0-16.2 TB, 5-10 years, not green and can do
hunter courses; also, a 13-14 H pony who can do hunters as well and is good
w/ kids.

We had a good time yesterday in Phelps. The day was warm and wonderful and
the trails were absolutely beautiful.

We had 2 riders and 5 miniature drivers. Not bad for a beginning. I
think I found a larger opening for bigger carriages. I am going to test it
out in the next week or so.

Anyway - the next * Ride - n - Drive * will be Saturday Feb. 18 at 1 pm.
The ride lasts about 2 hours at mostly a walk since some of the minis are
not-so-conditioned to go faster.

Please consider joining us. We would love to have you. Phelps is located
in Fauquier County, Northern VA.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Sue Buscher (my co-manager for the Hunter Show Series) called Ben Lomond Community Center, which handles the parks in Prince William County. She spoke with Mark Spencer who was very helpful and spoke with the Ground Maintenance Supervisor. Mark said that there were problems with people driving in the surrounding fields over the winter tearing them up. She asked if it had anything to do with us and having the trailers in the grass and they said we weren't a problem at all. Mark said he would start working with maintenance and would be willing to help us out so that we can still use the facilities. Just wanted to give everyone an update. Hopefully we can get this resolved by the first shows and nothing will have to change.

Subject: FW: [Nokesvillebarntalk] Re: Nokesville Park Equestrian Ring Parking

Hi John,

I just received an email below indicating that the parking area at the equestrian ring has had post installed around the lot preventing any overflow parking.  Can you fill me in on this?  I am a little concerned that the primary user group of the ring and the parking area was not notified of this change.  If there is no overflow parking available then we may have to cancel our series of shows at Nokesville Park.

If you talk to anyone that has attended our shows at Nokesville Park, including Mr. Thomas, they would tell you that overflow parking is absolutely necessary for our activities.  For the last 4 years we have held increasing equestrian events at both Nokesville Park and James Long Park.  These activities have helped us build a substantial bank account to allow us to begin providing funds for improvements to the equestrian parks to benefit the entire community.

I am a little frustrated that these changes limiting our ability to use the facility were made without contacting your partner in use and improvements of the equestrian parks.  Secondly, we have suggested some improvements to the parking area at the park which we were interested in helping to fund.  Since we have volunteered to help improve the parking facilities why would our access be limited without consulting us?  This change had to be a substantial expense of manpower, labor costs and material costs.  Why would expenses be allocated to reducing use of facilities instead of using resources to expand use of facilities by the community?

Sincerely,

Jeff

Did you guys know about this?  Looks like you need to go to the ring and check this out.  If they have taken away alot of the parking - it'll be impossible to get all of our H/J trailers in.  We might want to consider doing all the shows at James Long this year.

I was riding over at Nokesville Park yesterday.  I haven't been there
since September.  Anyway... they cut down all the trees lining the
driveway into the park.  If your horse gets loose, it's pretty easy for
them to run onto the road.  They also put in posts all around the
gravel parking area making it next to impossible to park your trailer
on the grass (there is one entrance at the far end of the parking lot,
but it was roped off).

I just thought you'd all like to know about the changes if you haven't
been over there recently.

Cheers!

Larry I spoke with John Morgan who is in charge of the Park and anything to do with changes. He was made aware of the changes and said that yes what you said was correct for the one portion of the park acceess where the other two have chained gates. he said that they intend to make changes soon to have access to the thrid area that is currently blocked.  He also said that they made changes to have full access to the park year around where previous years it was not... FYI not sure if you want to send a new email out. His number I got from the website at the main park number.

Two issues are:

  1. That the largest user group (Nokesville Horse Society) that uses that facility was not contacted regarding both our needs and our willingness to partner with improvements to the parking area.
  2. Manpower and funds were allocated to reduce use of the facility versus using funds to expand use of the facility such as.

I just got my HORSE JOURNAL in the mail yesterday and there is an
excellent article on microchip choices. I will summarize the
important points here.

Basically, there are only two companies -

American Veterinary Identification Devices (AVID)
www.avidequineid.com

Electronic ID
www.electronicidinc.com

It says that both products are similar and that $30-$60 will get you
a chip, lifetime enrollment in a database, and decals that say your
horse is microchipped. However, they go on to say that AVID is more
consumer-friendly.

Although the USDA's Animal ID program recommends the 134 kH chip also
called the 15-digit chip, most American horses already microchipped
have the 125 kH or 10-digit chip. Many of the scanners that read
microchips currently read only the 125 kH chip. Because of this,
HORSE JOURNAL recommends the 125 kH chip since it could be years
before the 134 kH chip becomes the standard. It also says that
chances are good that scanners that can read the 134 kH chip can also
read the 125 kH chip.

Cheers!

OK - Now is the time to dust off your little horsie or donkey cart's meet us
at CF Phelps on Saturday, 1PM. If your equine doesn't drive and doesn't
mind being like the Pied Piper, please join us for a ride and drive.

Attached is the map. It is in Fauquier county. Take rt 28 (or 29) down to
17 and go towards RT 95.

We will meet in the parking lot north of the sight-in Range.

"The range is located on the C. F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area in
Fauquier County near Sumerduck. To get to the range take Route 651 south
from Route 29 at Remington or north from Route 17 near Goldvien to Rogers
Ford Road, Route 632. Following the range signs, go approximately 1 mile on
Rt 632 and take a right onto the gravel hunter access road. Follow the
access road and bear right at the end into the range parking area."

MY note: At route 632, go to the 2nd parking area south of Summer duck (on
map it is the red gate). It is also the road that goes to the rifle range -
we won't be going there, don't worry.

Hi Everyone,

Please sign this petition, this is about my old riding instructor in RI/Mass.  I rode with him for six years and idolized him as a kid.  It broke my heart when I read about how he hired someone to electrocute his horse for insurance money.  They inserted an anal probe in one end and another probe in the horse's mouth. I believe it was done to electrocute the horse so that there wouldn't be any evidence, but he was caught and convicted.  He should NOT be involved with horses ever again.

Subj: Fwd: another credit card scam
Date: 1/6/2006
From: robrentsch@...

----- Subject: FW: another credit card scam

This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want.

  WARNING...New Credit Card Scam.

Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better
  prepared to protect yourself.

One of our employees was called on Wednesday from "VISA", and I was called on Thursday from "MasterCard".

The scam works like this: Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460 Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase
pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona?" When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?"

You say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security.

You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?"

Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that verify you are the possessor of the card.   These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say,
"That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?" After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up.

You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card.

Long story made short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by
the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost to late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.

What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a "Jason Richardson of MasterCard" with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening.

Please pass this on to all your family and friends.  By informing each other, we protect each other.

Dear Horse Enthusiast:

I am the committee chair person for the Virginia Horse Council’s Annual Membership Meeting, which will be held Friday, March 17, in conjunction with the Equine Event East expo in Chantilly, VA.  Each year we have a guest speaker for the Annual Membership Meeting.  I need your help!  I am looking for suggestions for a guest speaker.  Who in the horse world would you like to see as our guest speaker at our Friday night Annual Membership Meeting?  The meeting is free to all Virginia Horse Council members. (note: annual membership fee is only $25 per year)  We truly are looking for an individual that would be a draw.  So, who is it?  Please email me your suggestions.

Do not auto reply to this message.  Please send your replies to either jeffshoup@... or jshoup@...

My apology if you receive this email multiple times.  I may have you listed on several distribution lists.

Thanks,

Hello All,

I recently moved my horses to a private boarding facility in Haymarket (4 miles
from Gilbert's Corner) off Rt. 15. It is located in an equestrian community and
the HOA limits the number of horse trailers on the property to only 2. There
are already 2 trailers there and I need to find a place to park my 2-horse
trailer. Trying to find a place as close to Gilbert's Corner as possible. If
you know of a farm that has space or have a place of your own that you could
offer up I would appreciate it. Willing to pay a minor storage fee if needed.

Please contact me by email at: cammycrotty@...

Thanks!

Has anyone heard about a riding accident near Waterfall Road in
Haymarket? I have been told that two teenage girls were riding on the
road (I was told galloping) and one horse and rider was hit by a car
or truck. The rider was apparently not injured seriously, but the
horse was taken (I think) to Morven Park with possibly a broken hip
and a chest injury.

This is legit and a pre-written form is included at the HSUS link
below. Please take 30 seconds to do this....

Please support the HSUS campaign to protect horses from slaughter.
After thousands of Americans spoke out last year, Congress passed a law
with overwhelming majorities in the House and the Senate prohibiting
horse slaughter to continue in 2006. Now, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA) is saying it might find a way to continue horse
slaughter despite Congress's clear mandate. This is an outrageous act
on the part of an agency whose purpose is to implement laws, not
sidestep them. For the sake of our horses and our democracy, please
take a moment to act to stop the USDA's illegal action. This will all
be decided quickly so please don't delay. Go to this link and take
action now.

My friend (who drives Morgan's) and I (who drive
minis) need a navigator for the following events:

Lord Sterling CDE - April 21 - 23.
Elk Creek CDE - June 16 - 18.

This would be a *light* paying job. Groom duties
would be mostly to help with chores and to hold
horses. Navigator duties would be to sit in my
little carriage for all 3 phases of the event and to
stand and help steer Linda's carriage during her
marathon portion of the event.

We will provide training, transportation, lodging,
meals, fun and a little silliness.

The requirements of the groom is:

Fun-loving
weigh less than 130lbs
age 14 or over

Please email me if you are interested.
