Don't forget, Nokesville Horse Society is hosting another schooling pleasure
driving show this Sunday at Bristoe Battlefield Park in No. Virginia. This is
a great opportunity to learn about pleasure driving. You will learn about
proper turnout, but you can come as you are turnout as long as it is clean, well
fitting and safe.

Our judge is our local driving expert - MaryAlice Matheson. Our topic is
proper turnout as well as any questions you may have regarding how to show in a
Carriage pleasure driving show.

We have a super junior class as well as a ground driving class. The pattern
will be determined by the judge.

Consider supporting this low key educational show by either volunteering (**we
need you**), being an exhibitor or even donating to the NHS. We do get quite a
bit of spectators, so this is a chance to educate the local community about
carriage driving as well. Vendors are welcome at no charge.

To learn more please visit:

Feel free to email me with any questions.

I have been developing a website dedicated to things I have found a need for in this area.  The site is a combination directory, tack swap, services, vets, farriers, and Laurie Armystrong's monthly list of events, and tips on using Horse Motels and moving with horses.  I want to include boarding facilities, training and trainers, just not got that far.  but if you have something for those areas or one I have not mentioned send to me and I will either make a page for it or make room on an exisating page.

Pictures for you! Shutterfly

From: Lisa King

I decided not to really take "show" pictures this time since that's
what I've taken all year. I wanted to get some good candid shots, but
no one was really just hanging around with their horses while I was
there. I did get a few so enjoy. If you would like any of them just
let me know and I'll e-mail them to you.

I am a GMU student that rides with the riding club and I am looking for a horse
to lease/ maybe a farm to ride at. I would be looking for a horse to practice my
skills on and maybe do some local shows with. I am taking lessons at River Chase
in Aldie. I ride both english and western. I am jumping at about 2'6 and I have
light experience in barrel racing/western games. I would like to have someone to
ride with if thats at all possible. I like to have someone point out my flaws
and help me fix them. I am currently living in fairfax across the street from
GMU and would like to find a place that isnt too far from me. In return for
riding I can do some chores around the barn or we could work out another method
of me paying you back. Please let me know!!

IF ANYONE IS MISSING ANY HORSES- TWO WERE SPOTTED IN THE LARGE OPEN FIELD ON
COLVIN LANE AT THE CORNER OF BLUEGRASS COURT AT 6 PM THIS EVENING- SATURDAY.
ONE WAS A BROWN AND WHITE PAINT, THE OTHER MAY HAVE BEEN A CHESTNUT. THEY WERE
HEADED INTO THE WOODS, I NEVER SAW THEM AGAIN AFTER THAT. I CALLED PW
NON-EMERGENCY AND THEY SAID "AS LONG AS THEY'RE NOT IN THE ROAD...". I TOLD
THEM THEY WOULD BE, AND DOES SHE HAVE ANY IDEA OF THE IMPACT OF A 1000# HORSE

Hi Jeff,
There were 2 loose horses in the field on Colvin at the corner of Bluegrass and Colvin.  One is a paint, the other may be chestnut.  Can you try to get them to post that message ASAP?  PW non-emergency was not exactly interested.  They were running top speed toward Aden at 6 PM (Sept. 12).  I haven't seen them again.

This mare can pretty much do whatever you want her to do. She is docile and easy to handle on the ground - catch her anywhere in the field. She is simple under saddle and will do whatever you ask. I have had her on trails, but have not ridden her extensively. I was told by her previous owner that she jumps 3ft, I can't vouch for that, but would be happy to allow you to try her over a few fences if you would like. She is calm enough for a beginner, but she is responsive so an advanced beginner may be a better fit. She would make a great husband's or guest horse. She is healthy and compltely sound barefoot. Her farrier care, coggins, shots, teeth floated, worming, etc. will be completely up to date when you take her home (she is due for vet care this month, but has an appointment for this Friday). She really is a great all-around horse and is young enough to still specialize, but I just have WAY too many horses and someone has to go.

Please serious adult only inquiries

This mare has been allowed to grow up and has been worked extensively on the ground. She has superb ground manners and has just been started u/s. She walks and trots consistently and is just starting to canter. She is gentle, responsive, a quick learner, and eager to please. She has been trotted over ground polls a few times and didn't seem phased by them. She is going to make a stunning show horse. Unfortunately I will not be able to show this mare next year, but thought I would give someone else the opportunity. This mare is 100% sound barefoot, but may need shoes if she is being jumped regularly. I snapped a few pictures of her at the barn today, but can get some better pictures of her or she will be available to be seen in person. I am definately looking for a show oriented rider and would prefer a rider that is taking lessons regularly. I will offer her for a one year FREE off-farm lease (can be returned at any time, but I will promise you a year) if you would like to keep her at your local barn - I do not have an objection to field board as she is an easy keeper and used to living out. She will have all shots, negative coggins, teeth floated, farrier care, worming, etc. up to date. I will offer an on-farm lease to an adult rider for $250 per month - you will have full access to the mare, but if she is staying on the farm I reserve the right to ride her days or times that you are not riding her - you would be permitted to trailer her to and from shows and I would only ask you to let me know when (a quick E-mail is sufficient I just want to make sure I know if there will be a horse missing). I would be happy to answer any questions for serious adult inquiries. Please understand an adult must be present and must sign all paperwork for this lease.

I would prefer the lease option, but will reluctantly sell to a good home for $7500 (will significantly increase with training) and would offer a $7500 buy-out option for a leasor (that option would not extend to others and they could only buy her for their own use) at the end of their one year lease.

I am trying to get my horse numbers a little more under control, because I definately have more horses than their are hours in the day. I have two ponies that really aren't getting nearly enough time or attention and could really use some time. They are available for an off-farm lease at a local farm. Both ponies are sound barefoot, easy keepers, used to living out (field board), current negative coggins and shots, and completely healthy. The ponies are:

6 y/o gentle, calm, laid back, LAZY 10.2hh pony who has the been there, done that attitude of an old pony. He has done pony rides, leadline, and a whole lot of basic horse handling lessons. He absolutely LOVES attention of any kind and begs for treats. he leads, loads, ties, clips, cross ties, etc. He is sound and has no vices. He would be excellent for a lesson, camp, or active barn - anywhere he could get lots and lots of attention. He has been ridden independently at the walk and trot and trotted over some cross rails. He is green broke to ride, but is very gentle and doesn't object to much of anything. He is traffic safe and adjusts to any type of new situation. He is available for a one year off-farm lease for $100 per month

4 y/o fancy paint pony 11.3hh who is ready to start getting in shape for her show career. She is excellent on the ground - leads, loads, ties, clips, cross ties, etc. and happily accepts a rider. She is sensitive to the bit and responsive to all commands. She is still learning to properly work off leg aids. She would make an amazing show pony in the summer with some work over the winter - she is a fast enthusiastic learner who truly aims to please. She is available for a one year FREE off-farm lease to an experienced show home.

I will try to get pictures up soon, but if you would like pictures E-mail me and I will send some out to you - I would also be glad to answer any questions.

"Val" is a palomino QH mare that has been in professional training for over a
year. She is a shade under 16 hands, is very athletic and loves to be
challenged. Has done very well on trails, easily takes on trail obstacles and
has proven to be unflappable when exposed to new things. Was trained on barrels
and really loves gymkhana events. Needs at least an intermediate rider. If you
are looking for a good all around horse, Val will exceed your expectations.

I am trying to get a small load (3 tons) of crush and run or a larger load (up to 10 tons) of crushed rock brought from Luck Stone Quary in Centreville, VA to a place that is literally 0.4 miles from the Bull Run entrance (less than 2 miles from the quary). The quary has a flat delivery price which really seems absurd so I figured before I paid it I would see if anyone has a small dump trailer or dump truck (ideally someone who would be at the quary and could just run it over real quick) that wouldn't charge too much. I would like to get it done sometime this week, but I am flexible on times.

Thanks!

I am working with a few groups of cats that need to be relocated and could really use some outdoor/barn homes. These are feral or semi-feral cats. They will be trapped, go to the vet, be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested, etc. and once all of that is done it would be best if they could go to their new homes. They will need to be confined (enclosed tack or feed rooms work great) for a few weeks so they can calm down enough to realize that is where home is. There are cages that can be provided for anyone who doesn't have an enclosed tack and feed room. From there they simply need shelter, food, and water. It is a great way to help some cats out and keep the rodents away at the same time. It is best if the cats go in pairs or larger groups to help them with their transition. If you are willing to open your barn (sheds, workshops, and garages also happily accepted) please E-mail with your contact information (phone number would be great, but I'm happy to answer any questions through E-mail) and how many cats you're looking for. Please indicate any preferences for gender or color and what you would accept (ex: if you like orange cats, but aren't dead set on only orange cats let me know that you would like some orange cats, but it isn't a requirement, but if you only want 3 orange males let me know that). I do not guarantee I can meet any specific color or gender requests, but I will definitely put the word out and there are lots of cats in need of outdoor homes so we'll probably get your combination eventually.
