Jim Gill contacted me from an ad for hay I posted in June of 2008. I gave him a deposit for hay - he never sent the hay or returned my deposit, so I want to make sure he doesn't steal money from anyone else.
I just found out that Mr. Jim Gill of 15902 Falls Road,Sparks MD 21152 is at it again. He took a deposit from hay from a lady in New Hampshire but never produced the hay. He also has a record in both Virginia and New York. He is not a reliable person to deal with - he is a crook. I talked to a hay supplier of his and it turns out he owes those people alot of money, so PLEASE cross-post everywhere - you never know who me might try and scam next.
I have an 80" Big D Devlyn Heavy Turnout Blanket for sale. It's brand new in the package - never removed. I don't really have a need for a heavy turnout blanket since my mare gets a pretty heavy coat on her.
Retail price is approximately $150. I'm asking $100. I will deliver for free within 30 miles of Centreville. Or, we can make arrangements for pick-up.
I am hoping someone witha farm has pond geese and can advise me. Here
is the story:
I live in Haymarket and an all white (I am assuming domesticated) goose
crash landed at our door near the evergreen firehouse. He was trying to
fly with the "wild guys" and only gets about 300 feet of distance per
flight. We put him on the pond and after he lost a lot of weight
started feeding him goose food. He lets us feed him (another assumption
that it is a "he") The pond is now frozen so I don't know what to do
with "George" or how to winter him. I am worried that A.) He is lonley
and 2.) about the nights esp. temps and of course predators.
Any suggestions?
I just got done with some great reading. Has anyone else read this very informative and exciting book? I sure look at my horse an other way now, Pepper sure is my best friend.

Believe: A Horsemans Journey
Believe: A Horsemans Journey continues to chronicle the mans efforts as catalyst and mentor as we meet thirteen people with whom he has worked. Through their words and through Brannamans perceptive introductions to each essay, we experience first-hand the hope and confidence that he has instilled in them and their horses. You will discover through these stories how many untapped dreams and abilities you too possess, and how you can bring them to fruition. So journey with Buck Brannaman, learn from him, and profit from the voyage.

I am posting this for a friend who works with me in a horse rescue
group. If interested in the auction email her for directions at

Hi all,
Learned late this afternoon there is a tack auction being held in
Pennsdale Pa, this Thursday at 4:30 pm, by an auctioneer who normally
sells household, estate, guns etc....He will be selling some nice
horses too, at prices that may mean that they will be sold for
slaughter. I finally was able to speak to the auctioneer late this
afternoon about the horses to be sold, he gave me the following
information on three.
1. A 11 yr old Registered Arabian gelding, who won a silver medal in
an overseas endurance race.
He also team pens, checks up on command, neck reins, very well
mannered, has had a lot of training.
He was originally purchased for $4,500.00 by a real estate guru,
who's wife purchases horses, to outdo this one in endurance, and now
has too many. He has a very low reserve, if the horse brings $300.00
he will take it.
2. A full blood Morgan Mare 8 yrs. old very dark chestnut almost black
in appearance. Fast paced, trained in barrel and pole bending very
fast, took 2nd place in team penning. When cue'd will spin until ask
to stop. No reserve, if brings $400.00 will be let go, owner can't
winter this horse.
3. Coming 2 yr old Pintabian colt, with 3 way registry.
No reserve, will sell if only for $50.00
There are to be 11 if not more horses and ponies going to be sold at
this auction. I don't know any of the brokers or kill buyers who may
have heard of this auction, but with these three possibly selling for
such low prices I can only imagine where they will end up.
I will be going to the auction early, I can't financially afford to
take on any more myself, but plan to educate the owners prior to the
sale. If anyone knows of anyone looking for the types of horses listed
above please rely the information the sale is being held in Pennsdale
Pa. I will gladly give directions for anyone who may want to attend.
Email: calamityjane@...
I know there isn't much time before this sale.

A friend is looking for a small place to board. Gelding came down from
Ohio and is at a friends place for a short time. She lives in
woodbridge area now looking in the nokesville area.
Private 3 stall barn for rent in Haymarket (Shelter Lakes-near
intersection of 234 and 15). Barn is beautiful in great condition.
12x12 matted stalls, tack room, separate hay room, water &
electricity. Wash pad. Access to neighborhood trails. Ideal for one
owner with 2 horses. 2.5 acres of fenced paddocks (divided into 3
paddocks each with access to the barn.) Because of field size, 3
horses would only be considered with limited daily turn-out. Prefer
self-care, but would consider partial-care. Self-care with two horses
begins at $400. Previous tenants paid between $400 to $700. If
interested, I can send pictures.

Hi NHS,
The next two weekends have maintenance/construction events scheduled
by other organizations who are inviting NHS to help out. If you have
the time, and especially if you frequently use Conway Robinson or
Manassas Battlefield trails, please contribute your labor as a show
appreciation for continued equestrian use of the trails. Giving back
to the community will pay dividends, especially in this time of
fiscal shortfalls within Prince William County.
Saturday, November 15th starting at 10 AM
Conway Robinson State Park
There will be a couple of projects in addition to simple trail
weeding. All help would be appreciated. Meet at the shelter off Route
29 at 10:00. Contact: Jim Hannon at: ridgerunner10@.... Jim
is a member of Friends of Conway Robinson Forest.
Saturday, November 22nd starting at 9AM
Annie Snyder Trail (between Conway Robinson and Manassas Battlefield)
Meet at the Annie Snyder Trail head on Pageland (It is the third
stoplight as you travel North on hwy 29 from Interstate 66 ).

Hi everyone,
While riding at the park on Saturday I noted that someone had mis-
judged the newly added soft groundwork between the parking lot and
riding arena while it was still a bit wet. The result, about 4-6
inch deep pickup and trailer ruts. While I realize that the horses
will sink into the soft soil while we wait for the ground to harden,
I would recommend we keep the trailers to the edge of the parking
lot. Hopefully by next Spring's series of shows, the ground will
support the additional weight.
An additional note on the new work being done. The drainage ditch to
the East of the arena has been cleaned out and is being leveled out
for an additional trailer parking and horse riding area (no, no
additional soccer fields in that area either). Please also use
caution over the next several months on that newly laid soil as it
also will experience the same sinking effects. Please be patient as
the end results will be a great improvement to what we have had for
the equestrian before the work.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Happy Riding,
Scott Helberg

As you may, or may not know, the NVCEO,
in partnership with Fairfax 4 Horses and the Fairfax Co. Park Authority had
planned a major sponsor based fundraising event for this coming Saturday,
Nov. 8 at the site of the future LaurelHillRegionalPublicEquestrianCenter. However,
many of our prime sponsors informed us that the economic situations have
changed so much that they did not feel they could go forward with their
sponsorships at this time. Instead of going forward with the event,
without our major sponsors, we decided to postpone the event until Spring
’09.
With the postponement of the
“major” event until Spring ’09, we feel it is even more urgent
and imperative that we, the horse community, demonstrate to the Park
Authority that we are solidly behind supporting this facility. The Park
Authority has task Fairfax 4 Horses with raising $300,000 in private funding,
demonstrating the horse community’s ability to partner with the Park
Authority to fund the infrastructure improvements at the LaurelHillPublicEquestrianCenter. The NVCEO
major event was one of the first steps towards that project. Since we
have had to postpone the major event due to the economic slowdown we
don’t want the Park Authority to lose faith in the horse
community’s support of the LaurelHillPublicEquestrianCenter
project.
$300,000 is a “big elephant”
… and you eat an elephant … “one bite at a time”.
Although our major event has been postponed to Spring ’09, the NVCEO
would like to still hold a “pre-open house”, of sorts, at Laurel
Hill, this Saturday, November 8 by hosting a “Charity Trail Ride”
and after ride “Tail-gate”. Although the equestrian park is
not officially open, almost 8 miles of new trails have recently been
completed by the IMBA Trail Crew through Park Authority funding. This Saturday,
Nov. 8, will be our opportunity to introduce these new trails to the
community, and build some interest and momentum behind the fundraising
efforts for the “Laurel Hill Public Equestrian Center
Fund”. We want you to come out this Saturday and experience this
beautiful site, the initial trails that have been developed, and the vision
of the future LaurelHillRegionalPublicEquestrianCenter. This
facility will be the site of the NVCEO “Great Escape” Equestrian
Challenge in the Spring of ’09.
Pitch a few dollars into the hat this
Saturday when you get there or save your dollar for the Spring “Great
Escape” Trail Challenge, it’s your choice. The only
requirement is that you show up Saturday to demonstrate support for this
future FairfaxCounty regional equestrian park.
Although it is not required, feel free to bring a tail-gate dish to
share. Jimmie Jones, NVCEO President, will be bringing a huge pot of
his famous chili. He says it will be the best chili that you have ever
eaten, but we will let you be the judge of that.
We think everyone will be very impressed
with the new trails that the Fairfax County Park Authority has completed.
We hope that you will support this
event, Saturday, Nov. 8, even if you don’t plan to ride. Come out
– show your support and be impressed with what has already been accomplished
as we move toward the funding goal of this future regional public equestrian
facility.
Hi NHS.
If anyone knows of the referenced pet grave below, please let me
know. The Park Authority would like to permit the owner to re-
position the pet if desired.

Teddy Stewart and staff discovered a shallow grave today on one of
their horse trails. It appears to be freshly dug 2 feet x 1½ feet and
it had a lot of stones on top of it. There was a stone used as a
headstone and it had scratched on it KAT 03/08. There was a shovel
broken in 2 pieces beside it. The staff started to dig it up until
they came across a velvet type cloth, upon seeing that they covered
the grave back up.
Kathy suggested I call you because you know someone in Public Works
that could deal/help with that. I am on my way to Fairfax; if you

Hi all,
I'm a little later than I planned on doing this but... I just
wanted to send out a HUGE thanks to the volunteers who came out on
Sun. to make the Western show happen. It was a beautiful day for
our last show of the season and I for one had a great time.
I did take some pictures, which I'm working on getting posted, but
it was hard since I was also riding. Thank you Bobbi for taking
pictures after I decided it was just too hard to try to ride and
take everyone elses pictures.
I wasn't there in the morning but thank you so much Karen Basala for
being there to help Natalie, I'm sure you were a life saver. Thank
you Debby and Cindy for for doing the gate and timers in the speed
events we couldn't have done it without you.
Of course Gary, as always, thanks for your wonderful announcing and
being there for us.
Thank you to all the others I don't know by name that may have been
there helping too.
Last but not least... THANK YOU Natalie!!! Thank you for pulling it
all together last minute to have the show. Thanks for being the
manager this year, without you there wouldn't have been any shows at
all.
Happy riding.
See you at the awards banquet.

this Sunday !!!
Hi Folks,
Below is a message that was sent out on Wednesday
seeking volunteers for this Sunday's NHS Crystal Crown Judged Trail Ride.
So far Marlys has only had one person reply to the message indicating that they
are helping with the event. WE NEED YOUR HELP. So far, we do
have several folks that have come forward to help for with the largest NHS
event of the year, but as you can see from the message below we still need
more!!! Please read the message below and contact Marlys at MarlysShoup@... if you can
help Sunday.
This Sunday
is the largest one-day event hosted by the NHS all year. It is the Nokesville
Horse Society leg of the NVCEO Crystal Crown
Series Judged Trail Ride. If you have never been to a judged trail ride
this is a great time to come out and volunteer to help your organization.
Absolutely no experience
is needed. Below you will find a list of volunteer
positions, a brief description of what you will be doing and the time
commitment needed. Again, no experience is needed. We will provide
all the instructions to you when you arrive.
This year's event is the 6th Annual NHS Crystal Crown
Judged Trail Ride and one of the most admired rides in the series of rides
coordinated by the Northern VA Coalition of Equestrian Organizations
(NVCEO). Many riders routinely tell us that the NHS event is the best
ride in the series. As in the previous years, the NHS ride will be held
at the beautiful SkyMeadowsState Park
near Delaplane and Paris, VA. Delaplane is just a short
ride out I-66 past Marshall. The leaves are in perfect color and we have
ordered perfect weather for the event. Directions to the event are listed
at the bottom of this email. We have over 130 horse & rider participants at this
year's ride.
If you can
help in any way, just for half a day or the whole day, we will find a suitable
spot for you. We need YOU
this Sunday! Our most dire need is for obstacle judges and judge's
helpers
Do not respond to this email. Please contact our
Event Manager, Marlys Shoup at MarlysShoup@...,
or 703-402-3725
(cell), or 703-754-4981
(home) to let her know you can help. Again, no experience is needed and
we need your help to make this event once again the best ride in the Crystal
Crown Series.

Dear NHS Members & Friends,
I would like to thank our 15-strong, fence-building crew for joining together to complete the 3-board fence along Hickerson Lane at the Nokesville Park Equestrian Arena last Sunday!!
We had a great time, everyone worked hard, we worked as a team and got the job done in a little over 4 hours. People measuring, cutting, drilling, carrying, holding, hammering, sawing, hauling and celebrating as we completed 500 feet of fencing. JOB WELL DONE, CREW!!!!
I've attached just a few photos from the day and will post the rest on our website "PHOTOS" page sometime this weekend.
Here is the list of those wonderful people who contributed their Sunday morning for the good of the citizens of PWC and our equestrian community:
Laurie Armstrong Jim Basala Cleve Benton Faye Brewster Scott Helberg Karen Keith Patty Lugiano Bobbi McIntyre Chuck
Moss Tara Skillman Jeff Shoup Marlys Shoup Debby Stansell Ben Pittman Cindy Pittman
