Hi NHS.
If anyone knows of the referenced pet grave below, please let me
know. The Park Authority would like to permit the owner to re-
position the pet if desired.

Teddy Stewart and staff discovered a shallow grave today on one of
their horse trails. It appears to be freshly dug 2 feet x 1½ feet and
it had a lot of stones on top of it. There was a stone used as a
headstone and it had scratched on it KAT 03/08. There was a shovel
broken in 2 pieces beside it. The staff started to dig it up until
they came across a velvet type cloth, upon seeing that they covered
the grave back up.
Kathy suggested I call you because you know someone in Public Works
that could deal/help with that. I am on my way to Fairfax; if you
need anything from me call my Nextel 571 – 722 – 8853 or my personal
cell 703-626-1398

Hi all,
I'm a little later than I planned on doing this but... I just
wanted to send out a HUGE thanks to the volunteers who came out on
Sun. to make the Western show happen. It was a beautiful day for
our last show of the season and I for one had a great time.
I did take some pictures, which I'm working on getting posted, but
it was hard since I was also riding. Thank you Bobbi for taking
pictures after I decided it was just too hard to try to ride and
take everyone elses pictures.
I wasn't there in the morning but thank you so much Karen Basala for
being there to help Natalie, I'm sure you were a life saver. Thank
you Debby and Cindy for for doing the gate and timers in the speed
events we couldn't have done it without you.
Of course Gary, as always, thanks for your wonderful announcing and
being there for us.
Thank you to all the others I don't know by name that may have been
there helping too.
Last but not least... THANK YOU Natalie!!! Thank you for pulling it
all together last minute to have the show. Thanks for being the
manager this year, without you there wouldn't have been any shows at
all.
Happy riding.
See you at the awards banquet.

nokesvillehorsesociety@yahoogroups.com; nhsmessageboard@yahoogroups.com Subject: Volunteers Needed for
this Sunday !!!
Hi Folks,
Below is a message that was sent out on Wednesday
seeking volunteers for this Sunday's NHS Crystal Crown Judged Trail Ride.
So far Marlys has only had one person reply to the message indicating that they
are helping with the event. WE NEED YOUR HELP. So far, we do
have several folks that have come forward to help for with the largest NHS
event of the year, but as you can see from the message below we still need
more!!! Please read the message below and contact Marlys at MarlysShoup@... if you can
help Sunday.
This Sunday
is the largest one-day event hosted by the NHS all year. It is the Nokesville
Horse Society leg of the NVCEO Crystal Crown
Series Judged Trail Ride. If you have never been to a judged trail ride
this is a great time to come out and volunteer to help your organization.
Absolutely no experience
is needed. Below you will find a list of volunteer
positions, a brief description of what you will be doing and the time
commitment needed. Again, no experience is needed. We will provide
all the instructions to you when you arrive.
This year's event is the 6th Annual NHS Crystal Crown
Judged Trail Ride and one of the most admired rides in the series of rides
coordinated by the Northern VA Coalition of Equestrian Organizations
(NVCEO). Many riders routinely tell us that the NHS event is the best
ride in the series. As in the previous years, the NHS ride will be held
at the beautiful SkyMeadowsState Park
near Delaplane and Paris, VA. Delaplane is just a short
ride out I-66 past Marshall. The leaves are in perfect color and we have
ordered perfect weather for the event. Directions to the event are listed
at the bottom of this email. We have over 130 horse & rider participants at this
year's ride.
If you can
help in any way, just for half a day or the whole day, we will find a suitable
spot for you. We need YOU
this Sunday! Our most dire need is for obstacle judges and judge's
helpers
Do not respond to this email. Please contact our
Event Manager, Marlys Shoup at MarlysShoup@...,
or 703-402-3725
(cell), or 703-754-4981
(home) to let her know you can help. Again, no experience is needed and
we need your help to make this event once again the best ride in the Crystal
Crown Series.

We had a great time, everyone worked hard, we worked as a team and got the job done in a little over 4 hours. People measuring, cutting, drilling, carrying, holding, hammering, sawing, hauling and celebrating as we completed 500 feet of fencing. JOB WELL DONE, CREW!!!!

Friends & Members,
Unfortunately, NHS has told the Vienna Halloween Parade organizers
that we will not participate in this year's parade. We had a total of
4 people committed to ride in the parade and we decided that was just
not enough.
Thanks to those 4 folks and to Marian Cloud, our parade organizer.
Thanks,
Bobbi

Hi everyone,
Marian has been working hard to put NHS into the grand, and yes
televised, event. She has a few that have committed to it, but
really needs your participation, either riding or walking. Please
contact Marian as soon as you can to let her know you will be able to
attend. This will be a great event for publicizing the NHS, and a
very fun time to dress up in your halloween best.
Any carts and buggies out there? We welcome you as well.
Please contact Marian at NokesvilleCloud9@... - 703-472-8980.

Hi everyone,
Here are the pictures I took at the Hunter show on Sat. If you would like me to e-mail you any of them just tell me what numbers you want. Remember, you can still see last months Hunter show pictures in my albums on webshots as well. Please share this information with others who may not get the NHS message board e-mails.
Enjoy,

I have 1 stall available on our small private farm in Nokesville. Full
care only - includes feeding 2x day, stall, daily turn-out (24/7 w/run
in during appropriate weather). All 3 board fencing w/interior
electric to seperate for field rotation. Includes fly spraying am/pm
during summer as needed, blanketing during winter as needed, and
worming on our 8 week schedule. Horses are carefully checked am and pm
and they receive "alot" of attention. Must be up to date on vacs,
coggins, etc. We have a small blue stone ring w/jumps.
Call for additional information.

We will be holding a work part at the Nokesville Park Equestrian Arena
this Sunday, 19 OCTOBER beginning at 9:00 AM. We will be putting up
the boards on the posts we sank during the summer in order to complete
the fence along Hickerson Lane.
Please everyone - come out when you can. If you can't come until
after Noon call either Cleve (703) 400-8446 or me (803) 599-9296 and
we'll let you know if we still need your help ... I hope we're done by
then, but it will depend on how much help we get in the morning.
At the last work party only 4 of us attended. It made the work extra
long and difficult. Don't assume that someone else will be there.
Please support your club and the local horse community and join us.
Together we can get it done quickly and efficiently.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing you there!

Hi everyone,
NHS will be holding a Nokesville Park Work Party on Sunday, Nov 19 at
9:00 AM - Noon. We'll be putting up the boards on the posts that we
sunk this summer. It'll be fun and go quickly once we get rolling.
The boards are already there, all we have to do is cut them to length
and nail them to the posts. We'll need as many folks as possible, so
please mark your calendars to join us at the Nokesville Equestrian
Arena that day.
Thanks

I just got a cart to help get my pony back in shape. Now I am searching for a harness. Does anyone have a reasonably priced harness that would fit a FAT 11hh pony or a 14.2hh QH. I would really like to find a harness that someone would be willing to let me try on either one of them before I buy it, because I'm not sure how to tell if it will fit. Both are broke to drive and will accept a harness, I have driven them in the past, but someone else put the harness on for me. Anyone with a harness please E-mail (pictures if you have them) information and price.
I can only store about 60 square bales or 2 round bales or combo of
both.
I need it delivered so please include delivery in the price. I am in
Nokesville right off 28.
Thanks!
The NHS Hunter Show is this Sat., Oct. 11th. Also following the
Hunter Show is the Jumper Show on Sunday. This will be the last
hunter and jumper shows of the 2008 season.
We need lots of help! We really need help Sat. after the hunter show
to move the course and set up additional jumps to prepare for Sunday's
show, and then we need help with teardown on Sunday.
Also - Sat during the day we need help with gate duty, ribbons,
registration, etc.
Please let me know if you can help.
Thank you,
Karen Basala

So, I have only gotten one response to my email for volunteer help at
the jumper show Sunday. Really would appreciate it if anyone with some
spare time (I know who, with horses, has spare time?) could come out
and help. I won't be able to have the show if I don't have any
volunteers. We need at least:
One person to help with registration - morning & afternoon
2 timers - morning & afternoon
Someone to help with ribbons and the gate - morning & afternoon
Ring crew - to help change jump heights and pick up jumps that have
been knocked down
Please call or email me!
Thanks so much!!!
