Posting for Friend:
Max is an awsome 8 year-old Haflinger gelding who is now offered for
sale. He is a great kids pony or would easily carry an adult. I
personally have taken him on 2 trail rides and he stayed with me for a
weekend. He is a very easy keeper, does not require shoes and is a ton
of fun to ride! He was not bothered by anything on the trail rides:
crossed bridges, traffic safe, well mannered with other horses, loads,
ties, trailers well...etc. He is healthy and up to date on all
vaccines and yearly care. He is really a great pony who will bring a
lot of joy to someone. No buck/rear/bite/or any other vices. He stands
14 hands tall. Please contact Cheryl at 540-439-1699. Leave message.

Pearl is a great mover, W-T-C, currently going over poles. She has
been to several shows, and placed very well. She is very responsive,
loves to work and please. She does well as a trail horse, no spook,
goes across water and logs. She stands for the farrier, vet, bathes,
clips, trailers, ties, grooms. She has a loveable personality, and is
an in your back pocket type of pony that any parent would want their
child to own, & bring to shows as a nice pony hunter or for
equitation. You can also view her ad with pictures at

****************************** Subj: FW: THE ANIMALI FARM HORSE RESCUE UPDATE
Date: 9/27/2007 10:59:28 PM Eastern Daylight Time
From: v_trevisan@...
Already this year The Animali Farm has delivered nearly 300 horses to their new
homes. Excited adopters email pictures every day, with stories about a
foal born, their first ride or a breakthrough with their horse.
However, the need for homes for horses continues. Right now over 250 horses are
listed on the website, all desperately needing a place to go.
The directors of The Animali Farm spent the first 10 days of August in Alberta, Canada.
They visited 9 ranches and took thousands of photographs of horses that need
homes. This year was different. OK Appaloosa is out of the horse
business. It looked like a ghost town, with a For Sale sign by the
road. The Animali Farm placed 489 horses for OK Appaloosa in the
past four years. It was great to know that the job was
finished and that the horses got good homes.
This spring several new ranches in Alberta
contacted The Animali Farm asking for help. Most had been in the PMU
business, and had anywhere from 10-100 horses needing homes. Only the RC
ranch has a large number of horses, and of course their horses have the shortest
time left. The RC ranch is for sale. These mares & foals need to be placed
quickly, or they will go to auction. If these draft mares end up in an
auction in Alberta
they will be sold to the meat buyers. They are much in demand for this market,
and it would be a very sad end for them. Over 100 draft horse mares are
listed on the website, nearly all are bred. Most of these mares need
homes immediately.
There are full draft foals, and draft crosses. The draft crosses come from
several ranches, and are different combinations of draft with a lighter
horse. Draft mares have been crossed with Thoroughbred, Quarterhorse,
Paint, Morgan and Tennessee Walking horse.
There are 26 registered Quarterhorse mares and 18 foals listed on the website
along with two nice stallions. There are some pretty buckskins and roans
and one palomino! There are even a few nice started geldings. Blue Moon
ranch has some wonderful Fjord crosses available. There are several adult
mares, along with 18 foals. The mares are sweet, and
the foals were very curious about people. It was an amazing experience to
be with them. There are a few Tennessee Walkers, and also
registered Canadian horses needing homes. Several of them are trained to ride
or drive.
A small group of Appaloosas are available. They are owned by a private breeder
near Edmonton.
She has lovely horses, and nice bloodlines. Due to health problems, a divorce
and a declining horse market this rancher needs help placing most of her
horses. Shipping costs have gone up this year, due to the high cost
of fuel. This has increased adoption fees about $200 per horse over last year.
Draft mares cost us $1250.00 to ship, and light mares $1050.00. We work hard to
keep this cost down, but everyone from the shipper to the vet has raised
their price.
The Animali Farm is asking people to make donations to help reduce the cost of
shipping. If you would like to make a donation towards a specific horse
just let us know it's name. Click the link below to make a donation
through Paypal, or mail a check to the address below. Thank you in advance for
helping! Every dollar makes a big difference.
A wonderful group of artists is working on The Blessed Broodmare
Project. They are raising money to help the mares. You can find out about
the project by clicking on The Blessed Broodmare logo on our website.
Please forward this email to your horse loving friends. The more people
that know about these horses the better chance they have of getting a home in
time.
To view all of the horses needing homes go to our website,

Available Horses. If you find a horse that you would like to adopt
please contact us immediately.

As Jessica moves on to her new Quarterhorse, sadly we must let
Diamond go. Many of you may have seen Diamond play in the Spring
Gymnkana and speed events in the Western shows. She is the black
pony with white blaze and has won many ribbons and one reserve
champion with Jessica on her back, but Jessica has decided to move to
a bigger horse. Diamond is an easy keeper on open grass and hay, has
been barefoot for as long as we know, and has had no medical issues.
She has a current negative Coggins and is up to date on shots. If
you have a child that is interested in these events, or just for
trail riding, give us a call or email. Diamond has had English
riding and jumping in her history, but no recent eventing. We have
taken Diamond on Main Loop of Manassas Battlefield 10.0 miles and
Thompson WMA, keeping up with the Thoroughbred and Paint horses with
little problem. She leads them through creeks and thickets when they
won't go( Conway-Robinson Forest was fun once all the trees fell
over). Of course we did mostly walk/trot on those trails. Diamond
is between 20 and 25 years old, stands very still for all trimming,
brushing, hoof picking, and is very behaved with all horses. We are
asking $1200 but want to ensure she is going to a child that wants to
ride. I am positive she has many good years left to give, just too
small for Jessica who is a Sophomore this year.
See pictures of Diamond on many of the western show pictures or email
and I will send some.

It is very important that the community makes a lot of noise on this vote. Please, any support that you can provide - phone calls, letters, emails, and attending the hearings, will be most helpful (see contact information below).
We are coming down the home stretch on the Comprehensive Plan Update to the Parks, Open Space, and Trails Plan. The Planning Commission Public Hearing is on Wednesday, September 26, 7:00 at the McCoart Bldg. The Board of Supervisors hearing will be on Tuesday, October 16 (same time and place). As one would expect, both these hearings are essential to getting a robust Parks, Open Space, and Trails Plan into the Comprehensive plan to help our County develop into a high quality place to live. Right now, there are 3 options on the table:
Option A: This option sets a standard for parks of 15 acres
per thousand persons but allows developers to count private facilities and an acre of private land towards their park proffers (effectively reducing the 15 acres to 14). It is the one that is being pushed by planning staff, who have seemed to be on the side of developers throughout this process.
Option B: This options sets a much higher standard of 25 acres per thousand persons with an ultimate goal of having 10% of County lands reserved as park lands (similar to Fairfax County's present day park holdings). It does not support allowing developers to count private HOA lands towards park proffers. Although some significant compromises have already been made between this plan and the plan that was drafted by the citizens, this plan by far represents the best option available.
Option C; This options leaves the Parks plan as is, with no trail section and an park standard of 13.8 acres per
1,000. It is the weakest of the 3 options.
We are hoping that becuase of the upcoming elections, we can get the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors to approve Option B.
Planning Staff's biggest argument against the higher standards is that they cost too much. We think this is an odd stance, since there are plenty of unfunded items in the Comprehensive Plan - roads, for instance. Besides, even if we don't develop facilities at the parks right away, it makes good fiscal sense to acquire the land as soon as possible. We expect a lot of opposition from the development community because Option B requires more proffers from them. Therefore it will take a lot of noise from the Community to get it passed. Also, if people are willing to support Park Bonds or special tax levies that would be dedicated to providing parks and facilities, that would be an excellent message to send to the Planning
Commission and Board. Any support that you can provide - phone calls, letters, emails, and attending the hearings, will be most helpful (see contact information below).
You can read more information about the plan on the Prince William Conservation Alliances website: www.pwconserve.org
I would also be happy to discuss details if you call or email me. Please Please Please pass this information on to anyone that you think would be interested in supporting a strong park, open space, and trail system in Prince William .
Many many thanks for your time and attention!
Very Sincerely,
Liz Cronauer

In my search, I've also found that a nearby horseman in western PA/Wheeling will be happy to supply us for $6.00 per bale, delivered and stacked either in your barn or loft for $6.00 per bale. This is 2nd cutting orchard and is 45 lb bales. You can contact Bob (or Cele) Duvall at 304-336-7135 (home), or 304-280-6312(cell). email them at khfbc@... My horses love their hay! Jan Maday in Purcellville, VA :o)
Thanks to everybody that responded. I believe I have a close-by 50/50 split with this load.
I had such a huge response - I can't call everybody back personally - but thank you all!
For those that need hay in smaller quantities and those that need larger ones too:
I can recommend Tranco Farm in Hamilton, VA (convenient to route 15 between Leesburg and Gilbert's Corner). I contacted Chris this morning just in case I couldn't get together a split load and it turns out he has been asked by the Extension Agent in Loudoun County to bring in hay (to ensure there are no serious shortages), which he has done.
This is what he has on hand - all prices are picked up at his farm in Hamilton:
40 - 50 lb bales:
2nd cut orchard grass $8 Alfalfa $8 Timothy $7.5
80 lb bales:
1st cut orchard/timothy $8
The hay is from Canada, PA, and Ohio. He said he has travelled to look at some of this hay prior to purchasing it. Chris supplies a lot of the larger barns around here and I've always liked the hay he gets and the hay he makes. He has always been easy to deal with and is happy to help the smaller farms! His number is 703-779-0781. Delivery available.
Lisa.

Wanted:
10h-11h Pony or mini.
MUST NOT kick, buck, bite
Older is fine with age related health problems,
This pony would be my son's first pony for him to care for, which
means it must pick up all four, stand for brushing, saddling, w/t
maybe a little jumping. but if no jumping would still consider.
My son has been working with our Fjord horse, but he really wants
something he can do all by himself (sort of speak). Does not need to
be a babysitter, but trustworthy. Must be able to be pastured, (do
have dry lot ) my horses are out 24/7. With run in.
Must be able to get along with others. Mares and Geldings. Would
really like a child's pony they have out grown, instead of a pony that
has been a pasture oranment for 5 years. Would love a free lease, they
would have a great home. I can provide referrences. If not a free
lease, do not want to spend too much. Color not important, personality
is what I am looking for. Would like to find the right pony/mini by
Oct.28th. That is my son's birthday he will be 4.
If you have something please send me an email and pic if you have one.
Thanks Christie

Prince William Conservation Alliance September 18 Board of Supervisors Vote on Silver Lake! 2:00 p.m. Board Meeting, McCoart Government Center, Board Chambers NO PUBLIC HEARING, citizens must speak at Citizen's Time at the start of the meeting; No information released to the public until Friday afternoon. Click here to email all Supervisors
.
Which would you choose? 500 acres of parks at no cost to taxpayers OR 230 acres of parks at an initial investment of $1.6 million + $255,000 tax dollars each year.
The answer is not obvious to everyone. The Prince William County Executive's office has recommended that the Board of Supervisors reject the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy's offer to partner with Prince William County, double Silver Lake's acreage and invest in our parkland by developing the site at no cost to taxpayers. Instead, the Board is being advised to select the PWC Park Authority proposal which would provide residents with less parkland and significantly higher costs to taxpayers.
At the same time, the Prince William County Planning office has
recommended low standards for new parks policies based on concerns about the costs of land acquisition.
Prince William has only 9.5 parkland acres/1,000 population right now. Compared to Fairfax, where existing county parkland is already at 25 acres/1,000 residents and rising, we're way behind the curve. Prince William has a long way to go and we need all the help we can get.
The Board of Supervisors has the opportunity to take a step in the right direction at Silver Lake. County citizens would be better served by policies that welcome and encourage private and public investments to increase our public parkland, which improves quality of life for residents countywide.
In addition to the clear fiscal benefits, the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy's plan is focused on providing the high quality passive recreation opportunities citizens have prioritized. The PWC Park Authority plan calls for higher-intensity
uses, including RV camping and the possibility of RV storage: it is focused on generating profits and does not respond to resident's recreation priorities.
What is your choice for Prince William County? Click here to email all Supervisors and share your views on _community choices_ for Silver Lake. Speak at Citizen's Time on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., McCoart Government Center, Board Chambers.
LOOKING FOR A HALF LEASER
Champ is a 19 year old, 15.3 hh, bay, ¼ quarter horse and ¾
thoroughbred gelding. We are in desperate need for another half leaser
and will consider all inquiries. Champ is a wonderful horse that is
full of personality and a great horse to be around. He is easy to lead,
catch in the field, groom, tack, and bathe. He is a great horse to take
out for a hack in the ring or for a relaxing ride on the trail. Champ
will need a rider with some riding experience and
will be a great horse to further improve your riding abilities.
However, he will be limited to only doing flat work, but does excellent
on the flat and knows some dressage. Champ has won numerous blue and
red ribbons, as well as taking Reserves and Grand Champions in local
horse shows, showing in Horse Pleasure. In his first dressage show,
Champ scored in the lower sixties, with plenty of ability for
improvement. Champ is currently boarded at a stable near the town of

I am supposed to be getting a 400 +/- load of 2nd cut orchard grass/alfalfa this Saturday and I usually have my load split by the hay person. This year, nobody seems to only need 200 bales and everybody needs a full load so I'm trying to find someone close-by (within 40 miles of Purcellville) to split the load with.
I can take as few as 100 of the bales and be okay through winter but I do not have room for all 400.
The hay is always GREAT quality. $7 per bale delivered - add 25 cents per bale if you need someone to stack it in your barn. First cut timothy is also available for less $ per bale. Also very nice hay!
I need to know ASAP. Contact me directly by calling 540-338-5742 or email me at srstoutlis@...

The Nokesville Horse Society will be participating in the Haymarket Day Parade September 15th if we can get someone to haul the containers for the pooper scooper. This has been done in the past with a cart drawn by a horse or donkey or by an ATV.We also need walkers that can carry the NHS banner. If you can help with either of these items, please contact our Parade Coordinator, Marian Cloud at 703 594-3631 or Pat Pumphrey at patriciapumphrey@msn.com.
Assuming the parade will go on, the dress code will be simple, black pants and black hats.If you have a NHS shirt, it would be nice if you would wear it.The goal is to have fun and represent the Nokesville Horse Society. For insurance purposes, you must be a NHS member to participate You can join at the parade, or download a membership form from our website at NHS-inc.org.Of course you will need your current coggins available. Each participant with a horse will be requested to donate $2.00 for the pooper scooper. As we receive more information from the town of Haymarket regarding parking etc., we will let you know by email on the NHS message Boards. You can also call Marian Cloud.
