Fellow Members,
We, the Officers and Board Members of the NHS, wish to extend a hearty
Happy New Year to everyone. We had the first meeting of the newly
elected Board of Directors this past week and I'm excited to say the
new Board is enthusiastic and already working to make this show season
the best ever!
First, I'm sure you'll be happy to hear that the new Board has decided
to continue publishing the newsletter and holding General meetings
monthly. Don't forget to mark your calendars for the second Wednesday
of every month. We're discussing some exciting ideas for monthly
meeting topics so stay tuned!
As you probably know, the NHS is one of the largest and most active
volunteer run, community based equine organizations in the Northern
Virginia area. When the dust finally settled after the changing of
the Officers and Board, we found we still have several key positions
available for anyone who wants to get involved.
1) The Director of Operations Board of Director position is open. The
Director of Operations is responsible to the board and membership:
- to assist the Treasurer with NHS business such as deposits and check
writing.
- for preparation of invoices for businesses that support the NHS through
advertising such as in the newsletter and banners at show events.
- maintaining current insurance for the club
- other business related items are managed
Average monthly volunteer time is estimated at 6 hours.
2) The Western Show Manager position is open: The Western Show
Manager assists the Board in Managing each Western Schooling Show.
This includes scheduling the arrival of the equipment trailer and
volunteers throughout the summer. Events are scheduled for the third
Saturday of each month, April-July, September, and October with event
brochures and rules posted on the NHS website.
Notables:
- This was the best attended event last year, producing the most
riders and most income for the NHS.
- Last year, show day volunteers were readily available throughout
the day for setup, gates, ribbons etc.
- The "new" NHS Junior Board has volunteered so support all NHS
events with ready volunteers.
- NHS Show Managers coordinate with Events Coordinators to
recommend to the Board a list of end of year prizes to be awarded at
the Winter NHS Gala.
- Manager can still participate in Western Schooling show events.
- Rewarding as you see the smiles on the face of all our members,
both young and old, having the opportunity to participate in such a
fun event.
- Co-manager volunteers would be welcome, as we recognize that
commitment of a single Manager to every event may be challenging.
3) The Gated Show Manager position is open. The Gated Show Manager
assists the Board in Managing each Gated Schooling Show. This
includes scheduling the arrival of the equipment trailer and
volunteers for 3 events during the show season. There are very few
Gated Schooling shows in the area and were extremely well received by
the Gated Horse riders.
4) Several Management Committee positions are open.
- James Long Park Trail Representatives
- Valley View Representatives
- Conway Robinson Representative
- Photographers for Shows
- Parade Coordinator
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions or
just to be available from time to time to help out at a show, please
see me at the General meeting, email or call me. I'll be glad to
answer any of your questions about the positions.
We're looking forward to seeing you all next Wednesday!
Warmest regards,
Bobbi
