Dean Grannes has now taken it upon himself to write checks on the NEDRA checking account without board authorization. It is the members money he is spending.

Dear Mr. Grannes, As a NEDRA member I would like to receive a letter from your attorney stating that you have a legal right to hold a NEDRA election. Under the NEDRA charter you state there were no legally elected officials after December 31st, 2005, therefore there could not be any appointments made to the board after this date. You do not have any legal authority to hold a NEDRA election. Any attempt to do so will be disputed and any results will be disputed as well. If you think you do have any legal rights to take this action then please provide proof from an attorney. If you do not provide legal proof I will assume you are a thief and a liar.

Up until January 11th Dean Grannes recognized the NEDRA board and it's elected officials as evidenced by his following statement on that day when he was referring to charter issues. Dean Said: "That means that Shawn, and up until a few days ago, Ken, were not voting members on the board. We have five people (Roderick, Brian, Dean, Bill, and Ken) filling six positions (I have two). It's not clear to me whether Chip is the Merchandise Director (a voting board position) or some other position (which would be non-voting)."
On January17th, almost a week later Dean sent me a letter and here it is with my response to the part that bothered me. This must have been when he decided to take over as Der Fuhrer. He never responded to my letter.
Hi Dean,
As I said earlier, I applaud having elections. Please proceed with sending out letters for nominations. To save NEDRA mailing costs I propose we use the EV List to announce a call for nominations from NEDRA members only. We then remove the names from the mailing list of the respondents and send out notices to the remainder. I have heard we are now in the electronics age. I have read your post. The part that troubles me is your following statement that has some new method of governing that has NEVER been done in the past. As I said earlier, we have never followed the charter and the elections have always been late. The former President and Vice President ALWAYS carried on business in Full capacity. If this is another one of your ploys to slow down advancing the sport I will not put up with it as I am sure the rest of the board will agree. Please make explicitly clear your intentions and reasonings behind the following statement:
Roderick Wilde President NEDRA
In the meantime, we can still debate and work out new rules, class definitions, etc. NEDRA business can continue, but we should do so with the understanding that we are merely making proposals for the next administration, whatever that is.

Dean Grannes said: "If a person is not willing to work within the role laid out in the charter, and in fact, actively works in opposition to the charter, it is a breach of the trust of the members of the organization." Here is a fact! Dean Grannes has, as far as I remember, never once followed the NEDRA Charter. As far as I remember he has never held an election on time or given a financial report or budget within the rules of the charter. He has continually failed to give people their membership cards or acknowledge receipt of their money. At my request several times last year for an accounting of prize money for Woodburn winners he continued to not respond. If he truly believed in this document he would have followed it. I will continue to judge people by their actions and not the lies and BS that froths from their mouth. Dean's actions are all well documented. By his actions he was actively trying to destroy NEDRA and now he has come out of the closet for all to see.

Dean Grannes has made an announcement on the NEDRA site that he "IS" NEDRA. Here it is: "
NEDRA would like to acknowledge and thank Roderick, Brian and Ken for their numerous contributions to NEDRA over the past years. They truly have made significant contributions and in many ways made NEDRA a better organization by their efforts. Recent events and their actions have forced NEDRA to take measures to protect the members and the racers." Under Dean's own logic there were no elected officials after December 31st, 2005 therefore he couldn't be appointed to any position whatsoever on the board. He continues to state in public, without regard to any laws, that he is somehow is representing NEDRA.

Hi everyone,
Stan Hanel is hoping to organize a Wicked Watts Race this year.
The weekend dates currently scheduled at this time are: 5/5 -
5/6/2006; 6/2 - 6/3/2006; and 6/16 - 6/17/2006. Stan had not talked to
the track yet to see if they can arrange it but those are the possible
dates.
This does make the spring season busy for NEDRA races with the High
Voltage Nationals on May 13 and the Power of DC June 3.
However working with the Vegas track can be a challenge since their
schedule can be pretty tight.
Chip
Hi there. I wanted to check with you to see who the membership person currently is with NEDRA. I paid for my membership via PayPal last October, but I never received confirmation that I became a member. Since I didn't receive a ballot for the new elections, I don't believe that my membership got through.
Can you please point me to the right person?
Thanks.

Since you are here Shawn, maybe you can explain why you are supporting an
attempted hostile takeover of NEDRA.
You told me in no uncertain terms that you support Dean and Bill.
Chip said that you had prior knowledge of Dean and Bill's plan to lock out a
majority of the Executive Board of the organization, yet though we talked mere
hours before the lockout occurred, you said nothing on the subject.
You sold your event as being primarily a NEDRA race with some surrounding
events. NEDRA was the main sponsor and you certainly played up the NEDRA ties
both on your event website and in your solicitation of funds, in order to get
the support of this organization (and to get a non-voting seat on the NEDRA
board).
Now that the event is over, you have been trying to downplay the NEDRA
affiliation and sponsorship as incidental and you have been trying to distance
yourself from your earlier positions.
I sponsored the Battery Beach Burnout because you personally called me and
personally requested sponsorship based on this NEDRA affiliation and the fact
that we both sat on the NEDRA board. Money is very tight, but I felt that it was
important to support the expansion of the NEDRA race series. If you had pitched
the NEDRA portion of the event as incidental and only a small part of the
weekend (as you are now asserting), I would never have sponsored it.
When Dean and Bill's lockout occurred and your support of it was revealed, I
contacted you and instructed you to remove all references to my company's
sponsorship of the event, and asked you to refund my money that was collected
under what I still believe to be false pretenses. You have refused.
If you are unapologetic about your support of Dean and Bill's attempted
dictatorial takeover of the organization, maybe you can explain your actions to
the NEDRA membership here.
Where are Dean and Bill? Why do they hide from the members? Here is the public
forum. If your actions are so rightous guys, how about you explain them here?
Obviously you are well aware of the site and obviously you are avoiding it.
Why did you try to do a hostile takeover of the organization when elections were
imminent? Why didn't you just run for office like the democratic process calls
for?
Your silence on these issues speaks volumes.

NEDRA Charter Last Updated 8/2/98 1. NEDRA Membership and Voting The National Electric Drag Racing Association (hereafter NEDRA) has membership open to all persons. Corporate memberships are also available. Membership categories and fees are determined by the Membership Director, subject to majority approval of the Executive Board (defined below). Each NEDRA member receives one vote in all elections. Each corporation that is a member of NEDRA receives exactly one vote, regardless of the number of memberships the corporation may hold. 2. NEDRA Officers and Executive Board NEDRA officer positions are volunteer positions. All NEDRA officers must be NEDRA members with their membership paid in full throughout their time of service as a NEDRA officer. If an officer's membership lapses for more than thirty days, then that officer will no longer hold that position. 2.1. NEDRA Officers 2.1.1. President The President oversees and coordinates all NEDRA operations, through the NEDRA Executive Board. The president makes appointments to national director positions, subject to majority approval of the Executive Board. The president may create temporary appointed positions as necessary. The president may fill vacancies in the NEDRA board by appointment, subject to approval of a majority of the remaining board. 2.1.2. Vice President The Vice President becomes president in the event that the presidency becomes vacant. 2.1.3. Membership Director The Membership Director keeps and maintains all membership records and information. The Membership Director is responsible for disseminating ballot proxies, membership cards, and benefits information to the members. The Membership Director is responsible for providing a current list of NEDRA members to all sanctioned NEDRA events and to the Public Relations Director for member mailings. The Membership Director also defines the various membership categories and membership fees, subject to approval by a majority of the executive board. 2.1.4. National Technical Director The National Technical Director is in charge of establishing and updating the NEDRA safety rules, including definitions of vehicle classes, voltage divisions, and safety requirements. The national technical director also oversees the safety inspections for all NEDRA events. 2.1.5. Treasurer The Treasurer is responsible for all bookkeeping and accounting for NEDRA. At the end of each calendar year, the treasurer must produce a financial report for that year, showing income and expenditures. This report must be made available to the executive board and to NEDRA members upon request. A budget for the upcoming year must also be submitted and approved by the executive board, as described below. 2.1.6. Public Relations Director The Public Relations Director is responsible for coordinating the support and maintenance of the NEDRA web page. The public relations director also coordinates publication of a NEDRA newsletter. The public relations officer also keeps and maintains official NEDRA records and publishes the list of record holders. 2.1.7. Merchandise Director The Merchandise Director is responsible for coordinating the creation and sales of NEDRA merchandise, such as race videos, posters, and apparel. 2.2. Election of Officers The President and Vice President positions are elected positions. The term of office is two years, beginning January 1, 2000. Elections will be held by ballot after July 1st and before September 30th of the preceding year. Nominations must be announced to all NEDRA members, and the period for open nominations must last at least thirty days. If there is an event scheduled, voting may be done at that event, as long as each NEDRA member gets exactly one vote (as described in Section 1). NEDRA members not at that event must be mailed a ballot and given at least thirty days to return a completed ballot. In order to vote, a person or corporation must have a valid NEDRA membership on the day that voting starts. A person may only run for one position, either president or vice president. The person in each category with the most votes will be elected to that position. In the case of a tie, a run-off election will be held between the top two vote-getters for that position. There is no limit to the number of terms a person can hold. Once a president and vice president have been chosen, the other executive board positions will be filled by appointment. These positions are also two-year positions, beginning at the same time that the president and vice president take office. 2.3. Removal of Officers Any officer on the executive board, including the president and the vice president, may be removed from office based on abuse of office or inability to perform the duties of the position. The removal from office can be brought about in two ways. The first way an officer can be removed is by the executive board. Any officer of the executive board may request that an officer be removed from office. Such a request must be presented to all other members of the executive board, including the officer whose removal is sought. No vote can be taken for at least 24 hours after the initial request for removal. In addition, no vote can be taken until the officer whose removal is sought has a chance to respond to the board as a whole, or thirty days has passed from the officer's receipt of the notice to be removed, whichever comes first. A vote of removal by the executive board requires a two-thirds majority vote of the remaining executive board. The second way an officer can be removed is by the NEDRA membership as a whole. In order for a request for removal to come from the NEDRA membership, a petition signed by at least 10% of the current NEDRA members must be presented to the executive board. If a NEDRA member wishes to circulate such a petition, the NEDRA board must provide either the membership list (with addresses) or offer to send out the petition itself, but in either case, the expense is borne by the individual initiating the petition. Once such a petition signed by at least 10% of the current NEDRA membership is received by the executive board, the officer whose removal is sought must be given an opportunity to rebut any accusations made. A ballot with both the accusations and the rebuttal will then be sent to the NEDRA membership as a whole (at NEDRA's expense). Thirty days after the mailing goes out, if two thirds or more of the votes received are for removal, then the officer is removed from office immediately. 2.4. NEDRA Executive Board The NEDRA Executive Board is comprised of the President, the Vice President, the Membership Director, the National Technical Director, the Treasurer, the Public Relations Director, and the Merchandise Director. All other officers, including temporary appointments made by the President, are considered non-voting members of the board (and are not counted as board members for the purposes of establishing a quorum or majority). In order for the NEDRA Executive Board to do business as NEDRA (e.g. approve a budget, remove an officer, etc.), a quorum shall consist of two-thirds of the members of the Executive Board, and must consist of either the President or the Vice President. 2.5. Filling of a Vacancy If an appointed position becomes vacant, the president may appoint, subject to approval of a majority of the rest of the executive board, a replacement to finish the term. If the presidency becomes vacant, the vice president becomes president. If the vice presidency becomes vacant, (including the case in which the vice president becomes president after a vacancy in the presidency), a special election will be held to replace the vice president if there is more than one year left in the term, otherwise, it is left to the discretion of the executive board (either to call a special election to fill the vacancy or to leave the office vacant until the next regular election). 3. NEDRA Rules The National Technical Director is in charge of establishing and updating the NEDRA safety rules, including definitions of vehicle classes, voltage divisions, and safety requirements. Any change to the NEDRA rules must be approved by a majority of the executive board and the National Technical Director. Once a rule change has been approved by the executive board, the text of the rule change must be sent to the NEDRA membership. The new rules take effect thirty days after such notification is made or at a later date if specified in the rule change. 4. NEDRA Budget At the end of each calendar year, the treasurer will oversee the creation of a financial report for that year and a proposed budget for the following year. The financial report must show income and expenditures, either itemized or by category, and must be distributed to each of the members of the executive board and to any NEDRA member who requests a copy. The proposed budget should show projected income and expenses, and should allocate money for specific uses, such as advertising or track fees. Each budgetary item may be assigned to one of the executive board members. This means that the assigned board member may spend that money for its designated use without additional approval by the executive board. All money budgeted but not assigned to a board member can be spent only upon approval of a majority of the executive board. Any expenditures over 10% or $100 (whichever is smaller) of the budgeted amount in a category must be approved by a majority of. the executive board. The budget for the year must be approved by a majority of the executive board by the end of the previous year. In an election year, the outgoing treasurer will oversee the financial report for that year, but the budget will drawn up by the incoming treasurer and approved by the incoming executive board. 5. Requirements for a NEDRA Sanctioned Event One important role of NEDRA is to sanction electric drag racing events. To sanction such an event, a majority of the executive board must approve sanctioning the event. Also, the National Technical Director must designate a Event Safety Inspector (possibly the National Technical Director himself/herself) to be present at the event to conduct safety inspections and qualify vehicles for racing. All decisions made by the Event Safety Inspector at the time of the event are final, and no appeals to the National Technical Director (if different than the Event Safety Inspector) are allowed. 6. Amendments to the NEDRA Charter In order to amend this charter, a proposed amendment must be submitted to all NEDRA members in writing. This can only be done through the NEDRA executive board. If a proposed amendment is accepted by the NEDRA executive board, the executive board may choose to have NEDRA pay the costs of printing and mailing of ballots. If a proposed amendment is not supported by a majority of the NEDRA executive board, the ballots could still go out if an individual or corporate member of NEDRA chooses to accept the of printing and mailing of ballots. There are two ways for an amendment to pass. The first is for it to receive a positive vote from a two-thirds majority of the total NEDRA membership. The second is for it to receive a two-thirds majority of all the ballots cast after thirty days after having been sent out. That is, after being sent out, the number of ballots returned during the next thirty days are totaled, and a two-thirds majority of that number is sufficient to approve the amendment. If, during the course of the thirty days, the number of affirmative votes exceeds two-thirds of the total number of NEDRA members, the amendment is passed immediately. All amendments take effect thirty days after approval, or at a later date if so specified by the amendment. Members who join NEDRA more than one day after ballots for a proposed amendment have already been issued are not allowed to vote on that amendment and are not counted in the total number of NEDRA membership.

As far as elections I have a few ideas to do them electronically. I had
proposed this on the NEDRA Board a week or so ago and I received some
favorable responses to the idea but I will reiterate them here.
1) NEDRA Yahoo Group site
We could set up a Poll on this site to do it electronically using the
Poll features
a) Pros
This would be very simple and efficient. The results would go to one of
the moderators who would be our election official
b)Cons
The Poll is open to everyone who is a NEDRA Yahoo Group Member. This
includes NEDRA and non-NEDRA Members and our voting is only open to
Current NEDRA Members. Of course we would tell people on the ballot the
election is open to only NEDRA members. But we can cross check each
voter to make sure they are a Current NEDRA member. No biggee there.
2) NEDRA Website
We could set up a Ballot on the NEDRA website to do it electronically.
I can create a PHP scripted form that emails the result of the vote to
the official NEDRA vote taker. This will work just like the Yahoo Poll.
I've done quite a few PHP forms so that's no problem.
a) Pros
This would also be very simple and efficient. The results of each vote
would be emailed to the person handling the election
b)Cons
The Ballot is open to everyone as well. But the official vote taker
can cross check to make sure each voter is a current NEDRA member. Now,
we could get fancy and set up a database that would only allow NEDRA
members to vote but my backend database Web Programming skills in ASP
or MySQL Server aren't that savvy yet and we have to set up the
database within a month. But for this election I can set up a simple
PHP scripted form that would be emailed to our vote taker and they can
cross check to make they are a member. That's simple and will work for
now.
3) Use both the NEDRA website and the NEDRA Yahoo Group
Give people the option of either one. Set up the Ballot on one and the
Poll on the other. All the results go to the same person.
Now that is how to do it electronically. The other issue is setting up
the election and the timetable.

Hi Everyone, Guess I am the new President of NEDRA. Thanks to Ken for
setting up this group . I wished it could have been done a long time
ago, but it has been hard to get good help. I am currently in China
setting up production of an Electric motorcycle that will soon be
imported into the US. Sorry I have chosen to be out of the country thru
these hard times that this group now face. It will be hard for me to
post much until I return after the first of Feburary. Please tell all
NEDRA friends to sign up for this group and lets try to put the fun back
into EV's. I plan to start racing I.C.E. Breaker again soon. She now has
the 120 volt and the 144 volt MC records.I am not happy yet with the
144 volt runs, lifting the front end did take me by surprise, She will
get Wheelie bars and a field weakening circut before I leave 144volts
and move on to 168. I am just going to go up the voltage ladder until
something breaks, then it gets rebuilt. I plan on being in the 100 mile
club again at 192volts. Race On !

Hi NEDRA members, For a good laugh go to www.nedra.com and click on about. Apparently there is no President or Vice President listed and only two board members. Since according to the charter, board members only serve a two year term and their term expires the same time as do the President and Vice President, then who appointed them. I think you will figure it out. It is not to difficult. They just appointed themselves which of course is totally against the charter and against the principals of Democracy. I would say that NEDRA is now a Dictatorship. Here is a cut and paste from the NEDRA site on this. the 22nd day of January, 2006

Dean Grannes and Shawn Waggoner do not believe in the Democratic Process. If they did they would have waited for the upcoming elections which will be held very soon. They then could have voted out the President and Vice President of NEDRA. They didn't want to wait to take over NEDRA so Dean took over the site, the treasury and the Yahoo Nedraboard group. Have any of you received your nomination ballots from Dean? I think not. Has anyone in the past year received a nomination ballot from Dean? If so I would love to see a copy of it. Dean claims he mailed these out in November of 2005, two months after the elections were to be held and finalized according to the charter that was in place at the time. I went and reread every email posted to the board from Dean from June first of 2005 until the end of December 2005 and there is not one mention of him saying anything about sending out the nomination ballots. Below is a letter that was posted to the EV List on January 19th, 2006.
Hello all NEDRA members. This note was not going to be posted until after the Battery Beach burnout event because Chip was going to set up a Yahoo site for members to go to make nominations for President and Vice President Dean had mailed out nomination forms to NEDRA members last November. We came to find out that most people did not get them. We voted to do the process over. We also voted to streamline it using the miracles of modern technology. Actually old systems such as computers and FAX's. We used to mail them out and wait a month for their return. The NEDRA board is working very hard to streamline the system to better handle the future of NEDRA. With more events being held all the time the workload is getting huge. It took us four months, with a great deal of thought, to get the new rules in place. The new rules only moved one car's record. That is the "White Zombie" which moved up into the new Pro Street Class. Many of you remember all the discussion on installing a reverse in John's car. John was on the rules committee and voted for this rule as he thought it was in the "Spirit of the Class". Everyone on the board is working very hard for you and to move NEDRA out of the dark ages. If you do not think we are doing a good job you can vote the President and Vice President out of office. The board members who voted on the new rules were Brian Hall, Chip Gribben, Ken Trough, and Roderick Wilde. We put the new rules up on the NEDRA site so they could be reviewed by all members and we requested comments. Just as the NHRA rules are a fluid document, so are these.Changes can be made at any time. If you are a NEDRA member and have a particular issue then please contact rules@....

Folks, this a post Dean Grannes made to the EV List. The question NEDRA
members need to ask is WHO declared Martial Law and under what authority
and
where is it allowed in the NEDRA Charter. Theft is theft, you
can't sugar coat that! Members also need to ask where the title
of NEDRA Steward came from and where is it in the Charter. He declares he
is
the ACTING Steward, then who is the OFFICIAL Steward.....Roderick Wilde

Subject: RE: the old NEDRA Charter
Folks,
This is the first and last message on this subject I will post to this
list.
Martial Law has ended. Sanity has been restored. The NEDRA charter is
still in effect intact.
The Battery Beach Burnout event will go on as planned. Because NEDRA
missed the 30-day member notification period for the new classes, the
old classes will be in effect.
Further information can be found at www.nedra.com
Any further discussion is encouraged to be held off-list in respect to
those 95+% of EV-List members who are not NEDRA members.
I sincerely apologize on behalf of NEDRA for all the preceding chatter
and any ensuing confusion. We now return you to your regularly
scheduled EV discussion.
Dean Grannes
Acting NEDRA Steward

I just read your post to the new NEDRA groups site. Welcome aboard. We appreciate your input greatly. We should have set this up years ago. It will remain after all the smoke settles. It will be a great resource for the board to communicate to the members on what they are getting done for them. I feel there was a big disconnect between the members and the board. This venue will solve a lot of those problems Some of your issues you brought up were actively being addressed by the board. We were really trying to move NEDRA forward in the year 2006. Trying to get anything done with people who will not repond to emails on the board was extremely frustrating. If you ever speak to Brian Hall the current legal President you will find out that he has been trying to get Bill to do his job and write the class decriptions for almost three years. After you learn enough you will understand why I will never be on a NEDRA board again. All the frustration and then getting crap because people would give me a bad time for them not getting their prize money from NEDRA and many other things. It really made me look bad but I had no control over check writing. That was the Treasurers responsibility. I was continually the fall guy yet my numerous attempts to get things done will all become apparent. It is all well documented.

Many details will come out that will be confusing and difficult to
interpret by people who only have a small part of the larger picture.
Here is my perspective:
NEDRA is an informal organization run 100% by part time volunteers.
Most of the time there are posts open because so few people are
interested in volunteering for such a small organization. There are no
articles of incorporation nor any non-profit status involved. NEDRA
has always been too small for this kind of formality. We are
essentially an informal car club, no different than your local
corvette or mustang club. The executive board, under the leadership of
Roderick Wilde, was attempting to establish some structure, some
professionalism and some room for major growth within the
organization. This was to be a top to bottom, stem to stern reworking
of all aspects of the organization to make policy more clear, make the
NEDRA site more informative, make the board more responsive to the
membership and make the organization as a whole more focused on growth
(something that has been sorely lacking in recent years) and expansion
of events. We hoped to get things to the point where a formal,
professional organization could be formed. I was appointed to the
board last fall to help organize and to bring new energy to the
process. I was honored to be called upon to serve the EV community in
this way.
This dispute is not a simple matter of honest disagreement and
difference of opinion within the NEDRA board of directors. We are all
people who can work with others who don't happen to share the same
opinions. The core problem is that first Bill, and now Dean are doing
all they can to block any forward progress of the organization while
trying to appear publicly like they are not. They are bold faced lying
about many things and are saying one thing and doing another on a
regular basis. This is the sole reason for the animosity and the
conflict. If it were simply honest disagreement, we would still be
discussing this internally on the board without rancor or major
headbutting. Instead, we are dealing with disingenuity and intentional
deception which none of us have the time nor the patience for. With
such a small group of volunteer part-timers, there is plenty of room
for honest debate on all topics, but no room for major differences of
philosophy in terms of the direction the organization should be
headed. The majority of the board was working hard to move the
organization forward toward becoming a more professional organization
like the NHRA, but a couple of the board members, Dean Grannes and
Bill Dube were totally failing to perform their duties, and when the
board worked around their inaction, they started throwing out boat
anchors as fast as they could manufacture them. When it became clear
they were in the minority and that things could progress without their
personal approval, they plotted to lock the majority of the board out
of the board's private deliberation forum as well as the NEDRA site
itself. This is because Dean happened to be holding the passwords to
the sites.
The charter issue is a great example of what I am talking about. The
charter was being ignored by EVERYONE in the organization. We were
working on the new class definitions, and when we voted to pass them
and put them online in time for the Battery Beach Burnout (it was
thought that the new record setting opportunities would make the event
more successful and exciting). Bill and Dean were against passage of
the rules. When it became clear that the rules had enough majority
support to pass without their personal approval, Dean brought up the
charter and how the charter called for a member review of any class
description changes (This is the same charter that Dean and Bill have
been ignoring for their entire terms of office). Dean and Bill saw the
and attempted to use the charter as a tool to overturn the will of the
majority of the board, and when the majority of the board voted to set
it aside, Dean he used this as an excuse to try and seize control of
the entire organization.
When we voted to set aside the old NEDRA charter, it was because we
realized that NO ONE HAD BEEN FOLLOWING IT FOR YEARS. Dean and Bill
were the BIGGEST OFFENDERS of this as their roles were the most clear
and their duties the most spelled out in the old charter and they were
TOTALLY FAILING to follow any of the charter requirements. All the
board voted to do was to send the charter to commitee for updating and
set aside the charter requirements (that had been ignored for years
anyway) in the meantime. Updating the charter would have involved
updating of the ways members can vote and interact with the board as
well as making sure that any powers and requirement within the
organization were spread amongst the board. We were then going to take
the new proposed charter to the membership and ultimately the public
for feedback and editing prior to passage. No one board member should
have absolute power over any aspect of the organization. Making the
charter more democratic was the point. Apparently Bill and Dean didn't
want their powers reduced and their duties distributed amongst the board.
The charter rewrite was to be an open, democratic process that
involved the charter committee, the board of directors, the NEDRA
membership, and the general public.
Same thing with the rules. While Bill Dube keeps asserting that we
refused to get feedback from the members, while this is clearly not
true. We posted the rules publicly, announced them publicly, and
called for feedback and comments from the membership and the public.
This is MORE open than the old charter, as there is no methodology for
incorporating public feedback in the process under the old charter.
The only difference is that we decided to put the new classes into
effect before the first event of 2006 so that the event competitors
could take advantage of the new record setting oppotunities.
Again, nothing was done in secret, everything was done with a majority
vote of the executive board, with added public process and solicited
public opinion. The only goal of all of these actions by the board was
to support the electric drag racing competitors by providing them with
clearer, easy to follow class guidelines (something that had been
asked for by members and non-members alike for years) and additional
opportunities to set records and compete with their peers. All motives
were honorable.
The thing that I find most offensive about the lies and distortions
that Bill and Dean are putting forth is the idea that the ELECTED
officers (Roderick Wilde, President, and Brian Hall, Vice President)
as well as two appointed executive board members myself (Public
Relations Director) and Chip Gribben (Merchandise Director) have
somehow gone ROGUE. This group represents a clear majority of the
Executive Board, not a splinter faction. Dean and Bill's actions in
defiance of this majority are the REAL rogue actions here.
Further, Roderick, Brian, Chip and myself have all called for a new
vote of the president and vice president. This process was even
announced on the EVDL. If Dean was SO concerned that he felt he had to
hijack the organization, why didn't he simply RUN FOR PRESIDENT as a
vote was imminent? If Bill thought that things were not right, why
didn't Bill just RUN FOR PRESIDENT himself so that he could set
policy? Instead of following the democratic process, they opted for a
coup and locked out the majority of the executive board.
Further, Shawn Wagonner (recently appointed as the Southeast Coast
Event Coordinator), was reportedly fully aware of Dean's intention to
lock out the majority of the board, yet he said nothing to any of the
four members who were being plotted against. He personally told me
that he was on Dean and Bill's side in this dispute. I believe he is
an active participant in this plot to seize the reigns of the
organization as evidenced by his statements to Chip and myself.
So the two factions are Roderick Wilde (voted in), Brian Hall (voted
in), Chip Gribben (appointed), and Ken Trough (appointed) on one side,
and Dean Grannes (appointed), Bill Dube (appointed), and Shawn
Wagonner (appointed) on the other. Roderick, Brian, Chip and myself
all believe in an open democratic vote based process with member and
public input. Dean, Bill and Shawn apparently believe in taking
actions without a vote, plotting behind people's backs, and usurption
of power by non-elected appointees.
I encourage all NEDRA members to read all the data that gets posted
here as this will reveal the duplicity and the lies being touted by
Dean and Bill and supported by Shawn. Please take the time to read all
the data available before making up your mind about this whole
unfortunate situation.
May the Truth come out!

Former Public Relations Director, NEDRA
For Dean to argue that due to his incompetence in not holding an election as he is required to by the charter and claim that because of his actions there was no longer a valid NEDRA President after December 31st 2005 is beyond ludicrous. Is this what you will argue in court? By tomorrow I will know who owns the house at 1018 Bonner Avenue. If you are buying this home do you really want to risk losing it over a car club. Just some things you should be thinking about. I have never taken you as a stupid person in the past but by your actions I have no choice. Your actions will not just disappear. You have bitten this off and now you are going to have to chew it. You should realize that Bill is much smarter than both of you put together. That is the reason you will not see his name on any documents whatsoever regarding this issue. You have been hung out to dry. As they say, wake up and smell the cappuccino!

For starters, I like being on a NEDRA only message group. Of course
I'm on the EVlist, but NEDRA is more my focus. Just too bad the
events that drove the creation of this group.
I love Electric Drag racing. I can't think of any other group more
focused on that goal than NEDRA. I've had very good EV friends
leave NEDRA. That's too bad. Unless they're starting their own
organization, where are they going? It was mentioned earlier that
NEDRA is the combined spirit of a group of people for a common
goal. That's why I'm in NEDRA. Not because I agree with everything
that goes on within NEDRA. I don't agree with everything my church
does, but it's the best I've found.
I've been a NEDRA memeber since I set my first record in 2001. But
I think I've only paid up a couple of times. I think I got a
membership card and stickers once. There's just something morally
wrong with trying to hunt down someone to take my money? But if you
guys need the money, just ask.
I'm looking forward to the Power of DC once again, and even closer
to me, the High Voltage Nationals in Joliet. After reading about
some of the machines hitting the Batter Beach Burnout, the feeling
is building. It's going to be a great year.

This is a request for confirmation that checks were sent for Woodburn winners from last fall. The original message was sent on September 6th and was resent to Dean on January 12th of this year with no response. On September 12th I sent the following message to Dean:
Dean, I received a call yesterday from John Wayland and he said he still has not received his NEDRA check. Have they gone out in the mail yet? If not please do so ASAP. This affects our image to the racers.
Roderick
The original message for release of the checks was sent on September 6th, 2005. Dean responded on September 27th with the following excuse:
Roderick,
I haven't sent them out yet. I was going to do it this past weekend, but got very busy with other things, and then got sick on top of it all. I will do it this week.
Dean
I still have not gotten confirmation if in fact the winners ever received their checks. This incompetence by Dean has been going on for over three years and I am actually the one to blame for not getting him off the board. He was totally inept and incompetent and above all did not give a shit about the racers.

Could you confirm that both John Wayland and David Cloud received their checks and they have cleared the bank from The Woodburn Nationals last year.

----- Original Message ----- From: Roderick Wilde To: nedraboard@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, September 06, 2005 10:59 AM Subject: [nedraboard] Woodburn business report
We got two new members for NEDRA. First one is: Tim Brehm, 34079 Slavens Road, Warren, OR, 97053 email: tbrehm1@... phone: 503-366-6139. The second member is: Rick True, 12927 4th Avenue S.W., Burien, WA 98146. Dean, please send them membership cards. Also send a membership card to: Mark Farver, (512) 719-4243, 12349 Metric Blvd, Austin, TX 78758 He sent in money over a year ago and never recieved anything. We have to somehow correct this. Tom True again complained to me of not receiving his lifetime membership. His address is the same as his son's above. This particular situation has been going on for over two or three years. This kind os stuff is extremely bad press for NEDRA. We are appearing very flacky to the EV community. We really need to resolve these types of issues in a very timely manner. I am more inclined to take a persons word for some of these things than to call them a liar. Whio would go to all the trouble to give me crap about it if it wasn't true.
We recieved $70.00 for two memberships and sold $637.50 in merchandise so I will be sending Dean $707.50. We still have money coming in from Ken Trough, Rich Rudman and Ken Koch of KTA. I believe this total is around an additional $800.00.
I spoke with Chip while at Woodburn and asked what prize money they gave away at The Power of DC. They gave $300.00 for quickest ET and $200.00 for second and $100.00 for third. T o help rebuild our credibility in the EV community could you Dean please make a check for $300.00 in the mail today or tomorrow to John Wayland, 435 N.E. 114th Avenue, Portland, OR 97220 and a check for $200.00 to David Cloud, 16820 199th Place N.E., Woodinville, WA 98072. I was third place so I will take that $100.00 from the $707.50 and I will use it to ship QuickCable product to the racers as prizes. I will also take care of shipping T--shirts to our sponsors. QuickCable shipped overnight to the motel but they forgot to state for Saturday delivery so the product did not arrive until today. QuickCable is having it redirected to me here in PT. My final asessment is that although we had a small turnout due to many issues I believe it was very exciting racing and the videos will have a great effect for some time. I already sent John's footage to a teacher back east to show to his students along with my film "Sucking Amps". These kids are our future.

Since Dean brought up that I insulted Shawn when he asked about the new rules. Here is my insulting letter to Shawn for all to judge for yourself. Yes it is firm, I was acting as the President of the organization. I do not personally find it insulting. It is another one of Dean's illusions. Every member has a right to know what has transpired.... Roderick
Shawn,
The new rules were put in place to have a fairer advantage to street cars that weren't on the caliber of the "White Zombie" for one. In addition the new voltage division breaks in the higher voltages were, I believe, originally your idea. The rules are official and were posted on the NEDRA site almost two weeks ago. If you had something to say about them you might have spoken up then or even a month or so ago when we were writing them. It's your race and I am not going to tell you how to run it so if you want to run it outside of NEDRA rules there won't be any NEDRA records set. It is your decision. The consensus of this board is that the rules remain. If you have particular rules that bother you please speak up so we can address them in the rules committee and the board will change them as necessary if they are warranted. I do not actually foresee any major problems. They are basically expansions of the existing rules for clarity and fairness. The rules are for the advancement of the sport not for any particular one person. Shawn, please share with us what problems you find with them. Also, did you read my advice to Chip about the rules and the event? This sport has always been fun since its inception. Go out and have a good time and lighten up. Go cheer Matt on into the 100 mph club and a new world record. The one you are apparently trying to take away his ability to set.
Roderick Wilde NEDRA President
PS: I think we need a new rule under "Spirit of the Class": The "Spirit of the Class" is to advance the sport of electric drag racing and have fun while doing it.
----- Original Message ----- From: Shawn M. Waggoner To: nedraboard@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2006 7:52 PM Subject: [nedraboard] Battery Beach this Weekend
Everyone,
I have been pretty quite the last couple of weeks building vehicles and getting ready for the 2 day race coming up this weekend. Without voicing any opinions on any of the topics or dialogue that have been going through this list, I would like to express one.
As the event organizer, SE coordinator and person who asked to have the new rules in place, I would strongly suggest that NEDRA following the existing rules and classes for the purpose of Battery Beach and continue to work toward a set of rules that makes sense for the members of the association. The current rules are established and well understood. There has been a lot of hard work and input on behalf of this entire board. However, I now have less than 48hrs before I will be using any set of rules to classify cars for the race. The rules are a great start and result of a great deal of effort, but regardless of opinions on them, people have not had the time to review them to prepare their vehicles for the new classes. (Besides, in that same 48hrs I hope have the tuning and programming on a black Nissan to where it will be the next car in the 100MPH club...)
I await the opinion of the board on the ruling for the classes and rules.
Thanks,
-- Shawn M. Waggoner

Hi Ryan,
Please take this off list Please log into
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA/ for the sorted details. It is a
real mess! Basically Dean Grannes has taken over the NEDRA domain and the
NEDRA Board yahoo groups and the NEDRA bank account as he was the treasurer,
because he was being out voted by the majority of the board. He has done all
of this without board consent or without a majority vote of the NEDRA
members. He basically stole NEDRA. He has given himself the self appointed
title of NEDRA Steward. A title that he made up and is not in the charter
that he says he is protecting. He also claims that the only reason that
NEDRA exists is because of the NEDRA Charter which he has consistently
failed to follow. He is so wrong here. NEDRA is not a piece of paper. It is
the combined spirit of a group of people for a common goal. When you go to a
NEDRA event you can feel the camaraderie. NEDRA will NEVER be a piece of
paper! Basically he has some paranoid delusion that I have been trying to
take control of NEDRA which is what he has done. He has claimed that there
is now no NEDRA elected officials and that he controls everything. I have
quietly walked away and gave him no fuel for his imaginary fire. He has
violated many laws already which includes theft of intellectual property.
The NEDRA logo and web site does not belong to him but we made the
horrendous mistake of not having dual administrators. This is also wise for
other conditions when your webmaster is incapacitated or even, heaven
forbid, killed in a car wreck or something. Then you are stuck in a similar
position. This was all going to be addressed in the writing of a new
functional charter that was voted on by a majority of the board members and
by all of the elected officials. It is a huge can of worms and might only be
sorted out in a court battle. Bill Dube is staying way out of it because he
is quite intelligent and deals with intellectual property rights because of
patents he has done. Dean doesn't have a clue about this and Bill has hung
him out to dry, so to speak. What a soap opera, eh :-) and that is only the
beginning. If you want to read Dean's statement and my response please log
in at the site. I have complete documentation on all charges against Dean as
well as Bill. I may not be the president any longer but I am still a charter
member of NEDRA and I still care deeply about the organization and I will
still fight for the rights of all members of NEDRA. They deserve so much
better than this. Neither of these people have attended a NEDRA event in the
last three years and have shown no interest in furthering the sport. I
personally judge people by there actions and there are doers and there are
talkers. I will leave it to you to figure out what camp I am in.
Thanks for your interest,
Roderick Wilde

Effective immediately I am resigning my position as NEDRA President. It has been a pleasure serving the electric drag racing community and the EV community these many years. I am somewhat proud of my accomplishments for the sport and for the furtherance of EVs as viable forms of alternative transpotation. I was a founding member of NEDRA in 1997. In 1999 Bill Dube and I succeeded in getting electric vehicles legalized on NHRA tracks and in their rule book. We later did the same for electric junior dragsters. Bill writing the rules and I as a public relations liaison with the NHRA. I was also involved with Chip Gribben with ideas that he implemented on the website. I originated the Rannberg Cup Memorial Award in remembrance of our dear friend and fellow racer Ed Rannberg who passed on. I also instituted the 100, 125, and 150 mph clubs so that the pioneers of our sport who first broke 100 mph would not be forgotten. Their world record at the time would later be removed from the website once someone bested their time. One of my recent projects included working with the NEDRA rules committee on a clarification of the "one sentence" class descriptions that worked well for so many years when there were less than a dozen racers in the entire world. Times are now changing and for the better with even more events. My latest endeavor has been developing a dialog with the F.I.A. (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) www.fia.com so that NEDRA members could hold "World Recognized" speed records. I really hope someone takes up this task after I'm gone. I can not stress how incredibly important this is for the sport. Leaving NEDRA will give me much more free time to pursue a project I have started that will take me all over the world. I am in the process of writing a book on the History of Electric Land Speed Racing from 1898 to the present. For anyone interested in any other of my other projects go to www.rideablecommunities.org, an educational organization I formed dedicated to reducing our dependence on oil. I also regularly blog at www.particpate.net, the group that produced the movie Syriana. For further information on NEDRA issues go to http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA/

Setting up this site was my last act associated with NEDRA. I have
promoted Roderick to Owner of this page and I have promoted Brian and
Chip to full moderators as well.
I support Rod and Brian and Chip and I believe Dean has lost his mind,
but I have no interest in a day to day battle over an organization I
did not found and only recently got involved in.
I much appreciate the opportunity to serve the EV community, and I
hope something positive comes of this, but I'm done now.
Good luck.

Former Public Relations Director, NEDRA
The document you wrote below is based on a premise that is a lie stating I did not say I would continue on after The end of September when the elections were to be held "According to the Charter". Dean, you know it is a lie and I know it is a lie and the majority of the board members know this fact and it WILL become public knowledge. Your continued incompetence to hold elections and your total disregard for the rules as laid out under the charter are inexcusable. In this document you keep referring to we. Please come out of the closet Dean and Bill and accept the responsibilities and consequences of your actions.
2.2. Election of Officers
The President and Vice President positions are elected positions. The term of office is two years, beginning January 1, 2000. Elections will be held by ballot after July 1st and before September 30th of the preceding year
Your failure and incompetence and continued disregard for the charter over the years is well documented and WILL become public knowledge.
Read the following with more violations and disregard for the charter:
And even more incompetence and disregard for the charter on your part in the following requirements of the charter:
Even when specifically asked to fulfill your duties as treasurer and provide a financial report under the rules of the charter you refused to respond and this is well documented and WILL become public knowledge.
Absconding with NEDRA owned intelligent property is a crime, i.e. the web site.
Roderick Wilde
Acting NEDRA President until there is a legal election
PS: This document is riddled with lies. When we voted to redo the charter it was because it was not being followed and was deemed unworkable and not addressing the needs of the NEDRA membership and the furtherance of the sport of EV drag racing. When was the last time either you or Bill attended a NEDRA event? It has been so many years now I can't remember and you have the audacity to say that you are only looking out for the interests of the NEDRA membership. What a crock of shit by your own actions. When asked to help on writing the new rules you disappeared from the board for a month and a half. Bill was asked to be on the rules committee and he would not participate. He was repeatedly asked by board members to clarify the "one sentence" class rules for almost three years and did not do so. This is well documented and WILL be made public. You were one of the board members who thought the rules committee process was a good idea and you voted for it even though it was not in the charter. Bill was supposed to do them according to the charter but he was just as incompetent as you are.
"If confusion arising out of poorly written rules were to lead to an accident, the NEDRA organization would be jeopardized, and NEDRA board members themselves could be held liable."
There has been only one major accident involving major injuries in the history of NEDRA drag racing. This was caused by Bill Dube. The second major accident, a head injury, was in a class that the then National Tech Director, Bill Dube approved of that was against NHRA rules. Again more gross incompetence.
Dean further states: "In NEDRA, we can't really do any of those things except take away the title (and/or membership)." There is absolutely no provision in the charter to take away a person's membership. Just more rogue tactics by Dean and Bill. I am including a complete text of the charter at the end for those of you who receive this and have not read it. I am doing this since it was already made public by Shawn Waggoner on the EV Discussion List against NEDRA policy, it was supposed to be for members only
1. As of 12/31/05, according to the charter, and according to the conditions under which the president and vice president were elected, the terms expired. This is very clear in the charter. Therefore, after 12/31/05, Roderick was no longer president, Brian was no longer vice president, etc. We all understood this, and a move was made to hold elections in 2005, but apparently because of some problems with the USPS, the nomination forms did not reach a significant percentage of the membership. As a result, we received no nominations for president or vice president. I take responsibility for not pursuing this issue further, and instead took the path of least resistance and twice asked Roderick if he wanted to continue as president. He never responded to that question, at least not in December, but in any case, his term expired on 12/31/05. Thus it is clear that Roderick is no longer president.
2. In January, Roderick, Brian, and Ken, all "board members" (by their own definition) voted to "set aside" the charter. This vote signaled that they intended to ignore the charter and work outside the charter that governs the powers of the NEDRA board. First of all, the power to suspend the charter is not given to the president, the board, or anyone else except the members themselves. The modification (or suspension) of the charter is very clearly spelled out in the charter itself. There is no such thing as a "no confidence" vote of the charter. Thus, the vote was meaningless as far as the governance of the charter is concerned. But, what WAS significant was the fact that when it was pointed out that some of the actions of the three "board members" in question were in direct violation of the charter, that they voluntarily chose to attempt to override the charter, rather than bringing their actions back in line with the charter. This willful dismissal of the charter (a claim that it is "unworkable") is, in effect, a resignation from the "board" and from NEDRA. If a person is not willing to work within the role laid out in the charter, and in fact, actively works in opposition to the charter, it is a breach of the trust of the members of the organization. An analogy would be a president of a country "setting aside" the country's constitution, or the CEO of a corporation "setting aside" the rules of incorporation. Political leaders who do that typically get shot or jailed. CEOs who do that get fired, jailed, and/or sued by shareholders. In NEDRA, we can't really do any of those things except take away the title (and/or membership). The action of openly defying the whole charter in both word and spirit is sufficient to show that Roderick, Brian, and Ken are no longer fit to be on the "board" or any other responsible position in NEDRA.
3. Even if the preceding two items were false, and even if it could be argued that somehow the abovementioned do have some executive authority at NEDRA, then the very act of "setting aside" the charter BY DEFINITION dissolves the presidency, the vice presidency, the board, and NEDRA itself. It is a contradiction to say "The charter is set aside, but Roderick still acts with full presidential authority of NEDRA" because without the charter, not only is there no presidency, but there is no NEDRA. NEDRA is defined by the charter. By dissolving the charter, the organization itself is dissolved. That is why there is a fundamental flaw in the reasoning behind the "setting aside of the charter" and is why such an action is not allowed by the charter itself.
By this reasoning, therefore, the charter is intact. Roderick, Brian, and Ken have no standing as NEDRA executives or as members of any "board." Their actions were paramount to resigning from any board positions they think they might have had. However, by continuing to act as though they had executive power of NEDRA, they took objectionable actions which were gravely disconcerting.
One of the reasons the charter exists is not only to define NEDRA as an organization but to provide a process for review and approval of race rules and classes.Ensuring that NEDRA has rules that have been thoroughly reviewed improves safety for the racers and reduces NEDRA’s liability. One of the goals of NEDRA should be not only to further electric vehicle technology but also to provide a safe and enjoyable racing environment.
By ignoring the 30-day review period and pushing through rules without the Technical Director’s approval, as well as having only half-completed rules, NEDRA has confused the racers and potentially opened loopholes that could compromise safety. In requiring both a 30-day review period and Technical Director’s approval, the charter ensures that any safety issues are raised in regards to new proposed rule changes.Especially in sports such as drag racing, it is important that rule changes be examined by many people before making them official.
If confusion arising out of poorly written rules were to lead to an accident, the NEDRA organization would be jeopardized, and NEDRA board members themselves could be held liable. In good conscience and out of respect to the members, we cannot allow NEDRA to continue in such a self-destructive manner that jeopardizes NEDRA and the exposes the NEDRA leadership to increased liability by putting racers at unnecessary risk.
Several of the remaining "board" members (those on the NEDRAboard mailing list and who have had positions of responsibility on the NEDRA board) saw this crisis and felt they had to act. In the interests of the members and the racers’ safety, some semblance of control and sanity needed to be brought back to the organization. The organization cannot operate without a charter or outside the boundaries described therein. We were facing a rogue president who, with the help of a few others, effectively tried to strongarm control of all operations of NEDRA. Happily, the threat has been removed. Roderick, Brian, and Ken have been removed from the NEDRAboard mailing list, and the control of the web site, NEDRA funds, and NEDRAboard mailing list has been secured by those concerned members who choose to uphold the charter and abide by its principles to the best of their ability. New elections will be held as soon as possible.
As previously mentioned, the proposed class rules are currently only half finished. There are no rules for production classes, motorcycles, dragsters, high school, etc. These classes need to be clarified, and ALL proposed rule changes must go through the 30-day notification period and receive approval of the National Technical Director as specified in the charter. In addition, it was never properly decided what effect the new classes have on each of the current record holders. Thus, the Battery Beach Burnout race will operate under the old class rules, but it is entirely possible to have new class rules in place by the May 13th race in Illinois.
The NEDRA website will continue to reflect the current record holders, and any records set under the old class rules will be honored until the new class rules go into effect. The effective date of any new class rules will be announced on the website and via US Mail to all members.
I want to personally apologize to Shawn and Chip for any confusion regarding the race or its class rules.Shawn had expressed his support for the old class rules on the NEDRAboard list (and was insulted for it), but only at the last moment learned of today’s impending action.Chip was also the victim of a misunderstanding, and we hope that he will continue his valuable contributions to NEDRA.Both have worked very hard for Battery Beach Burnout, and it is hoped that the race will be an enjoyable and safe experience for all involved.
We ask that the NEDRA members be patient during this transition period. We hope that new leaders will step forward, who will honor, respect, and uphold the NEDRA members and the charter they approved.
