A device meant to enhance safety in one respect should be designed to
pose the lowest possible safety hazard in all other respects. There
is no _need_ for the fob to be conductive. Non-conductive material
will serve the intended purpose perfectly well.
Race machines have no "key" per se. Generally, on a race machine, the
FOB will be attached to an electrical connector.
On a Jr Dragster, it is quite likely that the driver will often have
the lanyard dangling from their wrist. The fob will be dangling with
it. It would be best to have it non-conductive so that it does not
accidentally become part of a circuit on the race machine.
The very first NEDRA red-triangle fobs were made from red Coroplast.
For sentimental reasons we have one of these original red triangles,
made by hand by Lou Taber, attached to the lanyard of the KillaCycle.
It has made every single pass down the track with the KillaCycle.
