I am in the process of finding more homestay options. Some people have already opened their homes for athletes, but those were quickly picked up by UCLA and Berkeley. I am going to contact local church's as well for housing in their gyms.
As for camping, there aren't many very close. Most are within a 30-45min from the race site. You can find camping info at http://www.hikercentral.com/metros/46220.html
Also keep in mind, Tuscaloosa has a very limited public transport system. I would recommend you get rental vehicles. You can see our bus system at: http://www.uatrolley.org/ I am not sure if the buses will allow you to take your bikes onboard.
