#1 (9/3) Boston Tri - Sprint - MA (season warmup)
#2 (9/10) Finger Lakes - Olympic - NY
#3 (9/17) HammerFest - Sprint - CT
#4 (9/23) Colby tri - Sprint - ME (regional championship)
#5 (10/1) Mightyman 1/2 - 70.3 - NY
The races are all different distances and they occur throughout the region. This year we do not have time to setup official collegiate divisions and support with the directors. I am hoping that this will be in place for the 2007 season. There is a chance that we can set up an official regional championship at the Colby tri. I need to get in contact with the race director but I am hopeful things will work out. The best part is that it is only $20 for students.
This is a tentative schedule and I have no problem changing it. If anybody has concerns/suggestions/opinions let me know. Also if you are happy with the proposed schedule let me know that as well.
Ideally the regional championship should be an olympic distance. A few reason why to have the championship as a sprint.
1. I really want to support Colby for their efforts in starting a triathlon.
2. The regional championship should come towards the end of season.
3. There was not a good option for an olympic distance towards the end of season.
4. A sprint for a championship might be a way to entice more students into the sport.
5. Nationals is an olympic distance so there will be a major competition of that distance for those whom desire.
6. The championship should be cheap so all have the opportunity to go ($20).
Again I want to emphasize I have not heard word from the race director for the Colby race. So we should all be open and supportive if Colby chooses not to host the regional championship.
Once we decide that this is the schedule, Steve Kelley (the USAT Regional Athlete Development Coordinator) has given us permission to use the USAT collegiate regional website to host the season schedule and scores.
