There will be an additional reason go to go nationals this year.  After the nationals race on the same day, the Olympic qualifier will be held on the exact same course.  I am certain that there will be spectators there to watch the Olympic trial that will also want to watch the Collegiate Championship.

The unfortunate part is that the A-day game is going to be on the same day again.  This means that air fare will be expensive and hotel rooms will be tight.  So book early because you will be completing availability with two other events.  Last year USAT reserved extra hotel rooms for USAT collegiate. I know they will do the same this year but they might also use those rooms for the Olympic qualifier athletes and for the other races.  My guess is that it will be harder to reserve hotel rooms this year.

I received this from the RD this morning.  It has the entire race weekend scheduled.  Additionally, I hard A-Day (the spring scrimmage football game that 90,000 people attend) is being held on April 19th....  I'm going to see if anyone will address this at today's press conference.

Oh that explains why the President of our region asked me what I thought of the nationals race course.

I just happened to say that the bike course was the perfect mixture to make the course extremely fast but still challenging.  Yup I am the reason that the Olympic trial is there.

Ha, ha I wish I had that much influence :)

Check out this link from the Birmingham news below.  There will be a pro/amateur race the day after Nationals, but that isn't the ITU race.  I will be attending the press conference tomorrow so I'll get all the details after that.  Kevin is correct about the final selection race to be in Hawaii, but it was cancelled.  Matt Bonvicin, our Southeast USAT Rep was telling me that USAT loves T-Town for some reason, hence the coaching clinic last weekend.

Also, Matt is already working out a combined ITU/Collegiate Training Camp sometime this spring to train on the course here in Tuscaloosa.

What Kevin mentioned is exactly what is written on the active.com page that describes the event.

I'm pretty sure all the trials events have been selected already -
Hawaii on April 27 and the Des Moines world cup.  But I do
remember hearing about a "talent ID race" to be held in Tuscaloosa
on the same weekend.  It was supposed to be for age group athletes
between 24 and 29 and follow ITU draft legal rules, and is meant
to find talent in the age group ranks to be developed towards the
2012 olympics.

I could be wrong though...
