USAG Region 1 has one of the strongest men's gymnastics judges and coaches associations in the whole country. This is a forum designed to increase communication about technical issues concerning the judging and coaching of men's gymnastics. Here we basically continue the collegial atmosphere/discussion that occurs every November at each local association's certification course; The forum is open to coaches/judges throughout Region One, and the rest of the country. We discuss NCAA/FIG/JO rules, and help further the collective education of the judging/coaching community throughout the Region.
Coaches: Welcome to the list. Ever wanted to ask a judge a technical question about routine construction or execution issues? Post your question here and ask all of us at the same time. Get opinions from newer and older judges alike. What are the judges looking for during the Level 5 mushroom routine? Ask. What are some PH skills to consider when moving your gymnast from Level 7 up to Level 8? Ask away.
Judges: Post your questions/comments about rules, trends, and things you've been seeing recently while judging. Newer judges, ask questions about the best ways to prepare for your assignment on a new event. State Apparatus Leader reports will also be found here.
Disclaimers: You must be a USAG Pro Member to join. You also must be actively coaching or judging within our gymnastics community. Because of USAG rules, here we cannot make new interpretations, but we can highlight areas of ambiguity and forward them on to the technical director. This site can be used to disseminate info about the latest changes. Also, because we'll sometimes be discussing opinions (without any discernable right or wrong answer) the forum can get rather lively. Sam Garanzini serves to lightly moderate the discussion. Please phrase questions such that all those reading may benefit, just like you'd do at the judges' November course. That said, join and jump in the discussion.
