Hi! This is the decision that was expected, so I'm not
TOO surprised. But, at any rate, if you haven't seen
the official article yet, here it is:
PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 3 — The Portland Trail Blazers
announced today that forward Detlef Schrempf has
announced his retirement from the National Basketball
Association after 15 seasons.
"It is with mixed emotions that I accept Detlef's
decision to retire," said team President and General
Manager Bob Whitsitt. "He still has some good
basketball years in him, but I respect his decision to
spend more time with his family and growing
businesses. The Blazers organization wishes him well."
Schrempf, who twice won the NBA's Sixth Man Award,
spent one season with the Blazers, averaging 7.5
points and 4.3 rebounds in 77 games. He ends his NBA
career with an average of 14.1 points, 6.2 rebounds
and .492 shooting percentage.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to retire
from the NBA," stated Schrempf. " I would like to
thank the NBA, and the teams that I have played for,
for their support. I would especially like to thank
the Blazers organization. They are a first-class
organization and gave me the opportunity to play for a
championship-caliber team. I am looking forward to
spending more time with my family, coaching my sons
and building my business."
