Hi All,

As some of you are aware, I have been on the search for the perfect
IWB holster for the Guardian 32 when I am forced to wear "adult"
clothes. Most of my slacks/suit pants tend to be lightweight linen
fabric, and the Guardian is a bit heavy in the front pocket.

I started with the Ahern model from the NAA webpage but found that
due to the short barrel of the Guardian the gun had a tendency
to "flip" over. The Bell Charter-Oak holster had the gun ride to
low, at or below the waistband and hence was very hard to get a
purchase on the grip.

(This is sounding like a Goldie Locks and the 3 bears story)

I sent a few e-mails off to different holster makers with the
predominant answer being they did not make an IWB for the Guardian.

Enter Ron Graham of Graham's Custom Leather, who said he would work
one up with some of the corrections in problems I had seen in other
designs.

The holster arrived yesterday and I have started the process of
wearing it with different pants/belts etc. Ron is doing the same
thing and we are going to compare notes next week.

I will let you know how this all shakes out as I think there are a
few other folks interested in an IWB type holster.

Any comments (good or bad) regarding IWB holsters that you have used
for the Guardian would be appreciated.

Regards,

Joe

I too have a black widow that I used as a back up weapon when I was a cop.
Love the gun. Now got the Guardian but am troubled by its heaviness (maybe I
have been spoiled by the minis weight.). Anyway, I am carrying it in a
SmartCarry holster as it seems to be the best so far. I don't like the
Desantis holster that came with it. Something about that zipper when it hits
the fan. I would be interested in any advice someone may have or their
opinion of their favorite holster for the Guardian.

Welcome, Bill. Glad to have you.

I like my Black Widow very much, too.  The day after I bought mine, I
took it out into the hills of central-southern Utah and shot up a bulk
box of 550 rounds in one afternoon.  Man, that was fun!  At five rounds
per reload, that's 110 times of pulling out the cylinder and loading 'er
up.  Add 50 more rounds of .22 magnum to make an even 600.  Heh heh,
what a blast!  (And I also shot my other guns, too!)

Unfortunately, it shot a bit high and needed a visit to NAA, but they
set me up good.

Not much danger in Utah, either but there's always that chance.  You
never know when and where the bad guy's gonna hit.  Better to waste your
time carrying it than not have it when you need it.

Hi group,

I just joined a couple of days ago-----just like us all!
I am a FFL just north of San Francisco (no gun shops left there).
I very much like the NAA products, however, my city has just put all of
the NAA revolvers on the "banned" list.

I have been in a perpetual battle to keep in business, and I think I'm
loosing!

Wecome to the new members -- which is everybody, since this list was
created this week; but welcome to those who joined just today or
yesterday. This list is growing FAST!

Sorry I can't help you much with the ammo question -- yet. I just got
my Guardian magazine ejection problem fixed, so now I need to start
testing ammo.

What I've got in mind now is cheap FN flat-nosed FMJ for practicing
(from AimSurplus.com) and Winchester Silvertips and/or Cor-bons for
carry.

Anyone know the going price for a .22LR mini? Not a magnum, but the
smaller framed LR. I'm thinking about getting one soon.

The FN ammo works great in my Guardian, Barry. Unfortunately, the FN
rounds will not fit in one of my Guardian magazines, tho. Strange, but
one of them is just a little bit different size. The OAL (over-all
length) of the flat-nosed FN ammo is just a smidge too long for one
magazine of four. The other three work just fine. The FN just jams up
the magazine and locks it up tight. Other brands work just fine in it,
go figure.

The FN ammo is an excellent buy and I highly recommend it for practice.
It comes in small 25 round packages, each costing about $2, I think, if
you order 1000 rounds. I'm thinking about getting another 1000 rounds,
tho I've probably only shot up about 300 rounds so far (mostly in my
P32).

The primers are a little hard, tho, and you might get some mis-fires,
but for practice, who cares? (Well, I care, but not as much if it's
just for cheap practice.) Shipping for me was close to $20.

I think my next NAA purchase is going to be a .22LR mini-revolver -- not
the magnum, but the smaller .22 LR frame.

Hi again Darvell,

Thanks for the interest in my work.
The grips on my Mini's are of my own design.
On the little .22 lr., which is one of the few guns I own that actually saved my life...long ago...on a late night along the banks of Lake Mead..."cocktail hour:)"..there again in Las Vegas:)...are a pair of hand carved African Elephant Ivory tusk grips, that go way back into even better stories during the late 60's.
The black grips in the photo of my holster for the "Magnum" are nothing more than theater....a dummy gun, for holster patterns...taped off carefully with Duct tape and properly sprayed with gloss black enamel paint.

I tried the DeSantis case for a few days. Found it a bit "long" for my
torso so that it was digging into me every time I sat down. Plus after 3
days that clip was starting to do a number on my leather belt (as well as my
fingers) I never felt so weak or uncoordinated as I did trying to get that
clip open and over the edge of my belt. I am hopeful that with Ron's help
we are gonna come-up with an IWB holster that will ride high enough to get a
grip on the gun, but have enough material below the waistline that the gun
does not "flop" as with the Aherns model.

Joe

Welcome, Joe.

I, too, have discovered that a Guardian is less like a pocket rocket and
more like a pocket rock in the pockets of my slacks. It just doesn't
work for me unless I keep my hand on the grip to prevent it from
bouncing around. I have, however, found that I can carry the Guardian
in a DeSantis belt case/holster quite comfortably, even while wearing
slacks. But what do to if somebody wants to borrow my Palm Pilot? ;)

Pocket carry in tight jeans is less of a problem, but the Guardian is a
tad bit thick and is a little harder to conceal than my Kel-Tec P32.
But it's okay if people can see a bulge in my pocket if they can't tell
what it is.

Hi Darvell,
Seems like we've been following each other around the country:)
I lived in Las Vegas for many years. Owned "Special Weapons", a gun store, at 4972 S. Maryland Parkway, out by U.N.L.V. back in 70's and 80's.
I've been making holsters on and off now for about 30 years.  Things are really booming now, with the advent of the web and my retirement went out the window about a year ago.
Most of my stuff is concealment leather at this time but I'm fiddling around with the PVC Acrylic Alloys (Kydex) and hope to be up to speed with them, this coming year.
Stop in at www.grahamscustomgunleather.bigstep.com  and have a look around when you find a moment.
Looks like the group is growing and I suspect it should really take off here, given the topic.
Best,
Ron

Welcome, George. Glad you could drop by.

As for the ejecting magazine problem -- that's not surprising. The
button may not have been seating well for the first little while. If
you do still have problems and you have an AA or AB serial numbered gun,
you may want to get an updated magazine catch button from NAA (or from
me -- I have about three extras by now!). It's really designed to help
curb this problem when you install the magazine finger rest (which is a
MUST for me), which puts more downward pressure on the magazine.

I have Ashley night sights, standard dot installed on my Guardian. I
really like them. I haven't shot a Guardian with the stock sights, but
I think the Ashleys are MUCH better and would highly recommend them.
Other sights would probably be a good alternative as well.

A Hedley holster is certainly a good choice, but I haven't seen one
myself (except for pictures). I'm interested in the back pocket
holster. I think you can only reach him on email, but I know that his
email has been fouled up recently. If you can't get ahold of him, let
me know and I'll see if I can scrounge up a current email address for
him.

Glad you like the idea of the NAA group. So did I. I don't start email
forums on a whim, but I really saw a need for this group. I also
started a CCW email list on egroups ("concealed") about a year ago and
now I've got about 500 subscribers. I hope people find the list as
useful.

I have carried my .22 Magnum Black Widow on occasion, but I usually have
my Kel-Tec P32 in my pocket. Up until today, my Guardian has not been
reliable enough to carry because of the magazine has been ejecting VERY
OFTEN, sometimes up to 50% of the time. I've only had it for a few
months and I really like it, even tho it's a bit heavier than the P32,
but it's such a nice little piece. I would dare say the top two .32 ACP
mini pocket guns have to be the NAA Guardian and the Kel-Tec P32, and I
have both.

Today I picked up my Guardian at the NAA plant in Provo, Utah. They
gave me a tour around the building -- which was very interesting -- and
then I picked up my Guardian. They let me test fire two magazines full
of different ammo into their test box and it shot perfectly, so I'm
pretty happy about it. I'm going to try to go to the range tomorrow
nite and try it out on my own.

If you have a magazine ejecting problem, it's most likely the magazine
catch button. Don at NAA took my magazine catch button (the new one
that you get when you order the magazine finger rest extensions) and
grinded it down in a few places. Now it looks like it doesn't eject any
more. I'm excited about it!

I also have a Black Widow revolver, but I'm seriously thinking about
getting a smaller one as a backup. Maybe just a .22 LR mini-revolver.
I'd like to complete my collection with one of each of NAA's firearms!

George & group: NAA has a magazine release "upgrade" with a stronger
spring (yours may already have it, depending on when it was made). I
didn't have any mags pop out when shooting, but did have several fail
to latch in before I installed the "fix". There is also a spring kit
upgrade ($10) that really improves the trigger pull. I installed the
kit, polished the feed ramp, and used a little (very little) "+P"
stainless lube on the slide and pivots & sliding contacts. Works
great and 100% reliability with Winchester FMJ and Soeer JHP's - I
think it's a great gun...Joel in Florida

Hi Darvell,
Thanks for the new site and the invite.
I'm a custom holster maker up here in the Portland, OR. area and have
several of the little NAA handguns.
So far, I've been pretty lucky with my Guardians. Both feed, fire and
function without problems. The little revolvers are true "gems" and
mine have been ticking along for some 20 years without a hitch.
As a young lad, I lived in Moab for several years and have to say
that Utah sure has some beautiful country.
Best,
Ron

Hi Darvell,
My name is George, & I just (last week...) got a Guardian.  Bought it new from a shop
here in the Seattle area, so it's still pretty much as shipped by NAA....except for a little
'fluff & buff' on the feed ramp & slide rails.  I took my Guardian to the range right after I
bought it & had quite a few feed jams & the mag. popped out about 5 times while going
through the first 50 rnds.  Polishing the feed ramp REALLY made a big difference...
no misfeeds at all after a couple hundred rounds (shooting mostly PMC FMJs & one box
of Silvertips, which seemed to misfeed more often than the PMCs...)  Also noticed that
the surprise mag. release 'feature' isn't happening any more either...
Planning on having some sights installed...can't really find those teeny little stock sights
with my middle aged eyes...thinking of the Ashley Express tritium (std. size).  What's your
opinion of these as well as the Gutter Snipe option?  Also want a good pocket holster.  Is
email the only way to get in touch with Mr. Hedley?
Don't have any more NAA handguns...just an SW99 ('Swalther') in .40 that has been a
real, reliable workhorse...just a little big to carry sometimes.
Great idea for this egroup.  Thx for gettin' it going.

Great, we already have six members.  I guess I should introduce myself
first.

I'm Darvell Hunt and I live about 20 minutes north of the NAA office in
Provo, Utah.  I have a Guardian (with carry package, Stipling, and
Ashley night sights), a Black Widow in .22LR/Magnum, and a magnum black
powder mini-revolver.

So who are you and whatcha got?! ;)

Thanks for the invite. I have a 22LR I carry frequently. I would prefer to
carry a larger caliber, and I have several, but here in Florida clothing is
damn near optional in the summer and this little five shooter is easy to drop
in the pocket...of course, that means I have to wear something to have shorts.
