To anyone who has received an e-mail from me or Davena the last couple days, I recently received an e-mail from a friend containing an attachment titled CFGWIZ32.EXE which states the following:
Subject line: "Printer. Click the"
Body: "Will inform you that it has finished installing the software for your HP DeskJet Printer.Click the "Finish" button. If you are running Windows 95, and the Update Device Driver Wizard screen appears on your system, perform the following steps:The first screen informs you that Windows 95 is going to complete the installation. At this point, insert Disk 1 or the CD-ROM provided with your printer."
DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT. This places the virus PE_MAGISTR.A in many of your files. I had to restore my computer configuration to a previous date and run antivirus software.
Apparantly this somehow sends itself to people in your address book. I did not send this out, however I have been notified by an individual in my address book that they received an e-mail from me with an attachment.
As well, my friend had not sent this to me on purpose, but it was somehow sent automatically.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
