I might as well put my two cents worth in also. First, check out the
Track of the Wolf website. They always have guns for sale, most are
custom made. Compare what they have with what you are looking to
buy. That should/may give you an idea of value.

Second, if you are looking for a "plinker" you might want to consider
getting a Lyman GPR or similar flintlock. Midsouth Shooters Supply
has the GPR flinter at $328, the Thompson/Center Hawken at $457, or
the CVA St. Louis Hawken at $218. All plus shipping, of course.
Then Cabela's will sell you several flintlocks for $300-$550 (watch
their prices though; they have the Lyman GPR in flint for $430).

From all I have heard of TVA (see the previous posts) their quality
is top notch. Mike Nesbitt, one of the writers for black powder
magazines, is particularly fond of them. There may be a wait while
they build the gun, though.

Hope this helps. There are lots of choices available, all worth
looking into.

Of course there are no "flintlock" gunsmiths around...at least no smith that advertises as such. 99% of competent smiths can do a glas job for you. AcraGlas...
